This is my go to with friends! The food is always presented well and so good. Depending on the day and if it's a weekend, you'll need a reservation as it gets pretty crowded on the weekend. I went here for a family dinner with a large group. Pros were that the pricing was reasonable, service was friendly, and there is a nice ambience for it being at the corner of Castor and Cottman. Cons were that the food took ridiculously long to come out (see other reviews as well), the food was decent but nothing mind blowing, and it felt a little cramped. I came here after seeing it advertised on social media. The bartender was not attentive and didn't even acknowledge my presence till I said hello. Decided to give this place a try as a few friends mentioned they had a good time here. Much smaller then I anticipated but once inside the ambiance was very nice and welcoming. My daughter and I started with a few coconut mojito's and a few appetizers. We ordered the calamari it was a little fishy but good. We had yucca Fritas which was pleasantly delicious. Arrived with a party of 6, and was seated quickly on a Sunday. Restaurant is large, nicely decorated and music at the right volume. They only had menus you use your phone to scan, which I am not a fan of. We ordered the Margarita flights, which were perfect, flavor was fresh. I was surprised to see that they had something like this in my area because I had never heard of Buccann. I realllllllllllly enjoyed the coconut mojito. The guacamole and yuca frites were pretty good, but I'm not gonna lie the salmon was not my favorite although it is one of their best sellers according to the server. Although we didn't partake, they did offer hookah if that interest you. Overall I'd give this place a 8/10 for the ambiance, a 6/10 for the food, and the service was a 7/10. I'd give this place another try because everything was good except my main dish which I was iffy on ordering because it was covered in a sauce but to my surprise the beans had meat in them which they didn't mention on the menu so I couldn't eat them but at least the salad was good lol. This was my second time dining with Buccann. I visited them for brunch a few weeks ago, then yesterday for Cinco de Mayo. Both times the service was very slow with regards to a waiter/ waitress taking my orders and the food being delivered to my table. I even witnessed a table that was there before I came wait forever for their food and when their food was delivered to their table it was incorrect. When I went for brunch, the food was average but could have been better. Last night for Cinco de Mayo, the food was meh. I ordered the birria tacos and it contained more cheese than meat and lacked in flavor. Overall, for as many people that frequents them, the service and food needs major improvement. Came last night for some good food, music and hookah. We were seated immediately and shortly after, our server came over and took our drink and appetizer orders. We began talking, enjoying the music and vibe inside when I realized we had been there for at least 15 mins and still hadn't received one drink (we ordered a sprit and a mojito punta cana) and noticed that people who arrived after us already had drinks. We began looking for our server who didn't come back to see if we were ready to order entrees. When we were finally able to catch her, she looks and ask if anyone had come over. Our table is empty at this point besides the silverware wrapped in the napkin and what was already placed on the table. She then asked us what we had ordered again and swiftly made her way to the back of the restaurant to put in the orders, I guess again or maybe for the 1st time cause this made no sense. I had made up my mind and said if we didn't have our drinks in 5 mins we were out. Our drinks were at our table in about 3 mins and not too long after that we received our appetizers. When we placed our initial food order we also requested hookah well that didn't make it way to our table until our appetizers were brought out. The food was delicious, tasty, perfect which is why we love this place but the service today was beyond poor. I understand getting busy and forgetting but after you forget the table you make an effort to make up for it. She visited the other tables she worked that were around us several times, frequently asking guest if they were okay, needed anything, provided more chairs, made sure hookah guy came over to them but us, nothing. It was almost like she purposefully didn't want to look over at our table so we could make eye contact and request her over. This days service really made me upset. I will not patron a business where I do not feel welcomed but tolerated because I'm a paying customer. The time before yesterday my service was completely off and the place was practically empty but I chalked it up to the staff being new and learning what and how to do things. I recently moved to Philadelphia and saw this restaurant pop up on my Instagram newsfeed and immediately wanted to try it. Here is my personal experience and observations. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly host who immediately seated our party of 7, then it all went downhill. The appetizers arrived 30 minutes after our order was placed, then our meals took an additional 40 minutes (I timed it). The beans were clearly left over from the previous day and reheated. I know because I am Dominican and incorporate beans (and other Latin dishes) to my everyday meal prep, so I KNOW. The steak comes out in a cast iron pan that is sizzling hot, with no protection on the handle to prevent burns. Back to the food, overall, I was NOT impressed with the food nor the drinks. The most memorable part of our visit to Buccann was the waitress was super friendly, but the service time for our food to arrive was truly a reason NOT to ever go back! The ambiance was laid back and relaxing, and the lighting created a cool vibe, although we went during the day. Their music level is low enough where you can hear the lyrics and still hold a conversation, loved it. My biggest complaint was the time it took for our food to come out. If it wasn't for the long drive it took for us to arrive at the restaurant, I would've definitely walked out, but we were all starving after a long day and were craving Spanish food. Do I recommend it? Eh, not really. Would I go back? Definitely NOT. Parking is limited, good luck. read more
