On a recent business trip to Texas, co-workers informed me of a mandatory "must-see" on my way from Austin to Houston; Buc-ee's. As they were explaining this place to me, I wasn't sure what to expect but it certainly wasn't at all what I had in mind as I pulled up to the place. First of all, I've never seen so many gas pumps in one place before. I didn't exactly count all of them, but there had to have been upwards of 30? Maybe more? Upon walking into the store, I headed straight to the coffee for a much-needed energy boost and I was thrilled to see the many options available for flavoring. Unlike most gas station/convenience stores where you'll have standard cream in those tiny little single-serve plastic "cups" which are not only wasteful but lack serious flavor, Buc-ee's had a vast selection of 1 quart Coffee Mate flavors. As I made my way around the store with a perfect cup of individualized joe, I felt like I was in a grocery store/department store, without every little item that those stores carry. That having been said, there were housewares, souvenirs, clothing, jewelry and all kinds of yummy bakery items, grab-n-go snack/lunch options, chips, snacks, and candy... TONS AND TONS of candy. I can see why Buc-ee's is in Texas. Anywhere else, it probably wouldn't make sense. read more

This is the first Buc-ee's I've ever visited a few years ago when doing the Houston-Austin route and I have to say the second round doesn't disappoint. Just a great selection of junk food and healthy snacks and drinks and all sorts of stuff you don't expect in a convenience store. I took a star off because one time the restroom smelled a bit funky and another time one of the clerks was staring at me in an unpleasant way. HOWEVER, the majority of the people here are super friendly and helpful. I really like how Buc-ee's seems to treat the employees well and pay them a living wage. So I had to stop by Bucc'ees because that's what you do when you're in Texas. I've been in several others but not this one until now. This location is smaller in comparison to the one in Temple for instance. The bathrooms were clean as expected and they had several rows of snacks but there was a much smaller amount of things to get here. Stopped here on the way to San Antonio. Ended up getting nothing. The prices are a little steep. Also, the people here slam into you if you get in their way. Again, I don't understand having food and not having a place to sit down and eat it. Went to another near by station. Got everything I wanted and got to sit down and enjoy it. While in town visiting family, we kept seeing signs for Buc-ee's and stopped in for a try. The place is like a superstore of gas stations. They have everything from gift ideas, to travel essentials and typical gas station things. There has got to be 40+ fuel pumps. The best part in my view, is the fresh made BBQ, pastries, and candy coated nuts. The BBQ beef brisket sandwich was great. This place is like an oasis. Very cool! read more

I've always loved Buc-ee's but today definitely had me change that. I came in today and the card reader was not working so I had to go inside. I already do not like going inside places alone due to anxiety but I did and brought my 8 year old SERVICE DOG in with me I did not want to leave him in the hot car so. All I was doing was going to give cash for gas (when you walk in the registers are right there so it's not like I even had to walk much in the store) and was instantly greeted with I needed to leave that dogs were not allowed. I tried to say he was a service animal and I just needed to get gas with cash because the chip reader wasn't working as I was being told over and over dogs aren't allowed you need to leave you need to leave. The manager came up to me as well and told me to leave at this point I could have already handed the attendant my cash and been gone. Everything is bigger in Texas, including our gas stations. It took me a little while to jump on the Buc-ee's bandwagon, but now that I'm on it, I'm never getting off. If I'm driving past a Buc-ee's, I'm pretty much going to stop 100% of the time. For one, you'd be hard pressed to find cleaner restrooms anywhere. Now, I have my own favorite gas stations along my routes in Texas where I know how clean things are, but nothing is as consistent as Buc-ee's. I know that each and every location is going to have clean, well stocked bathrooms and I won't have to worry about using a shady toilet. They even have toilet seat cleaner in the bathrooms, putting all of my germ worries at ease. (I'm just particular about public restrooms, okay?) They use my favorite smelling soap, too. I wish I knew what brand of soap that is so I could use it at home - it just smells so good! There's like 60 gas pumps here. No need to wait in line or try to beat somebody to the last available pump, because there's plenty. The parking lot is huge, too. Everything is huge! (That's what she wishes she could say.) I've had a lot of different food options here and everything has been great. The sandwiches, hot or cold, the cheese and sausage platters, trail mix, cherry sours, salsa - all so yummy. There's a lot more stuff I still have to try, like their kolaches. I have no idea how I forget to get a kolache every single time I go to a Buc-ee's, but I always do. I'm a mess. This Buc-ee's is pretty easy to access from the highway from either direction and everybody who works here is really friendly. Oh, and they pay their employees a decent hourly wage! This Buc-ee's was mind-blowing! It was my first time in a Buc-ee's. I only ventured in to take a driving break from heavy rain in Bastrop. However, I'd heard friends raving about Buc-ee's and also seen numerous funny Buc-ee's billboards posted along the highway. I was pleasantly greeted by clear, wide aisles; an assortment of cheap beaver T-shirts; smiling cashiers who greeted every customer; endless aisles of road trip snacks, souvenirs, and useful stuff found in convenience stores; counters of jerky, BBQ, sandwiches, kolaches, and pastries; and piles of cheap and fresh produce! Their restrooms are the best I've ever seen. There is even a restroom attendant who is constantly cleaning. I wound up buying a $3.99 thermal coffee mug that you can get $0.99 refills from. Other than unsweetened tea, the fountain drinks sold there are mostly pretty unhealthy. Best of all, the gas prices there were much cheaper than nearby ones--$2.82 per gallon (only about 20 cents over RBOB price). The new Buc-ee's Bastrop is located on the Northeast corner of Hwy 71 and Jackson St. The main storefront faces Jackson St, but there is an entrance facing Hwy 71 as well. The parking lot is huge. There is a driveway into it from Hwy 71 as well as the main one from Jackson St. I usually don't stop between my weekly Austin-to-Sugar-Land and vice versa trips but now I will just to visit my favorite beaver! :-) Buc-ee's actually makes me look forward to that 3-hour roadtrip. If you've never been to Buc-ee's, check this one out at least once in your life! read more

The gas station super store. This is the most Texas thing you will see from a gas stations in the Lone Star State This makes a lot of sense, especially in Texas for a city to city road trip. Lots of convenient items to buy such as fudge, jerky, and any type of trinket you can think of. Has an outdoor theme and has a lot of useful items for camping. I make a point of stopping here on my way to Austin to use their bathrooms and top off the tank for my return trip. It's well worth doing because on the way back to Houston, I'm kind of tired and don't feel like making a left turn and the other gas stations along the way are not great. I've been here at 6 am and greeted warmly by the staff as if they were cheering me to go do my business and I've been here in the afternoon and greeted warmly by the staff. In contrast, the one time I stopped by a shell station in Columbus, I got the rudest service so it's not just a "small town charm" and more like this company knows how to train their employees to be nice. read more

The Buc-ee's in Giddings used to be awesome. Then they opened the one in New Braunsfels and blew Giddings away. The location in Bastrop is a bit better in my opinion. It's not the size of a small town Wal Mart and the parking lot has a little better flow. The jerky bar is always worth stopping at. The food is passable. Their BBQ is mediocre for sure. The BLT is pretty spectacular though. It's weird that somehow I can always blow $20 walking into a Buc-ee's. read more

I had my worst experience ever at Buc-ee's. I stopped by for the restroom and snacks. I checked out with Karina M. She is the absolute worst cashier EVER. I bought a couple drinks. She grabbed both by the part where your mouth goes. I asked her not to do that. She replied and said, "My mama said wash your drinks before drinking them." I was perturbed by the response. We continued and she did it again. I repeated what I said earlier and she replied, what her mama said. I said your sarcasm is duly noted and not happy with your level of service. She displayed a very condescending behavior and elitism. I was more surprised than anything by her actions. She was not masked so I saw the full array of her facial expressions and attitudinal face. I told her that she should not do that as she never know whom she is speaking. She did not care. I walked away, but I could not drive away without addressing the issue. I came back into the store and asked for a manager. I spoke with Katelyn, the front manager not the store manager. I shared with her what happened and I told her to get both sides of the story. She told me that they have cameras and voice software active on all cash registers. I had my receipt in my hand and she asked for it after I stated the cashier name. I told her the story and she stated she would resolve the issue. I told her I would never know if she did or did not because I was leaving. She said I had to trust her. I told her that is all I could do, but it bothered me why she wanted my receipt. My trust level is pretty low at this point about the situation. If you go to this store and encounter Karina M, be prepared for a terrible customer experience with her. Her sarcasm and demeanor is very troubling. read more

My first experience with Buc-ee's was down right awful. I waited in line just to get in parking lot in Luling, TX just off I-10 for what seemed to be 30 minutes. I'm sure it was a lot less but it set the tone regardless. I had seen 4,237 billboards for this place coming in so I thought it had to be great but left wanting to stab that little beaver over and over! (No sexual innuendos intended) Fast forward 18 months and a different location and what a difference! I pulled in with ease to one of their 4 million gas pumps. I then went into their super mega colossal convenience store. They have everything. 30 different beef jerky's, at least 8 different fountain drink machines where you can add cherry, vanilla, or lime flavorings at your leasure, kolaches, doughnuts, crazy craft like items, and all kinds of unneeded crap. Their bathrooms are bigger than any stadium I have ever been in. I'm not exxagerrating. There are probably 25 toilets and 50 urinals and each has their own hand sanitizer. EVERY URINAL HAS THEIR OWN HAND SANITIZER! No more waiting for that dorky bastard who has been using the one working sink for 10 minutes like he may have caught the ebola virus from his own penis. This place gets you in and out with the quickness. By far the best gas station experience ever. read more

Don't know how to rate this place. It's kind of like a tourist trap convenience store. It does have tons of gas pumps, and they were busy. But the food we had, (because if posts about how delicious they were,) left me questioning if the posters worked for Buc-ees. The brisket sandwich was okay but not amazing like others have posted. I won't get into the other food stuffs that were disappointing. But, the garlic Jerky was VERY good. Great flavor and not too tough. I travel for work...a lot. So of course pit stops are a natural part of the day. Buc-ees actually advertises for said potty breaks all along Hwy 71, so if they really want "my business" that bad, I'll stop. This particular Buc-ees is HUGE! There are countless gas pumps (rarely if ever a wait), the store is enormous with a good variety of food, drinks, souvenirs and other stuff. That being said, the trek to the potty is longer than most, so don't wait until the last minute. The ladies restroom is also huge. There must be at least 30 stalls inside. I have never been in a nicer rest stop restroom. This place is all about clean - hand sanitizer everywhere including inside the stalls. It is also well-stocked, never run out of TP, soap or towels. I guess I should expect no less from a place that advertises "It's POTTY TIME" on billboards leading up to their superstore. read more
