Bubs has become the only sub place I'll eat at. The food tastes amazing, and I've never had slow service. One time I got there just as the bread was coming out of the oven... I was in heaven! Whenever I finish a "regular" size, I always wish I had ordered the extra-large. Whenever I finish an extra-large, I always wish I had a second. I don't know how a simple sandwich can taste so good.. It's hard to make a sandwich a standout item, but this guy's done it. Wow! They make their own bread, their own mayo, and their own hot giardiniera. I love spicy so I ordered the El Nino Italian beef, which had hot pepper jack cheese, hot sauce, the hot giardinera, and chipotle mayo. I have been to Bubs Subs for about half a dozen times now and each time the quality of their food has been right on. I have had my share of italian beef sandwiches in my life. I used to think that portillos was the beef sandwich that all others should be judged on. Well now I have found a place that is not only equal but is actually better. The name of the sub is the El Nino. It comes with a chipotle mayo and homemade giardinera which is by far the best I have ever had. The owner Dom is super friendly and seems to always be there. This is the type of establishment that you can't help but root for since you can see how passionate the owner is of putting out a delicious quality homemade product. This place is amazing!! It isn't one of those get sick of the place sandwhich shops, this guy knows what he is doing. I believe all the employees are owners, and they give you exactly what is described. I crave it almost everyday. I live in Hampshire, and drive all the way to bubs just to get a sub and go 20 minutes out of my way while heading to Elgin. If you have yet to try it, please do. *Much* better bread than Algonquin Sub Shop or Potbellies (imagine a hearty French Bagguette), *much, much* fresher veggies than Subway, similar toppings compared to Jimmy Johns and priced higher over them all but well worth it! The large sandwich is $12 so if you're piching pennies find a friend that likes the same sandwich and split the cost. Trust me you'll never want to do another "$5 Footlong" again! As for the sandwiches they were all good and the staff is on their game with explaining the menu in a friendly and patient manner. Also, I like the fact that they serve Italian Beef but was surprised they didn't have a tuna optioin available. As for the subs the El Nino was my favorite...Italian beef kicked up with spices and pepper jack cheese...yum! Only thing lacking is more salt and seasoning in their homemade beef and giardinera. However, I like things salty like how JJ's Italian dressing and Potbellies hot peppers are made. Overall large menu and most of the sandwiches are just slightly different by either meat, cheese or both so the Algonquin Sub Shop is still a place to go for something out of the ordinary. Several months ago I saw the sign in the window of the place announcing a new sub shop, and anxiously stalked the building until it opened. I've been a regular here since then. I profess to be a huge fan of a good sandwich, and Bub's really hits that spot. As far as comparing to the competition, there really is none. There are a few chain sub shops around, and a couple do a decent job, but can't compare to what Bub's is offering. Bub's stands alone in quality ingredients and freshness. Everything I've had there was delicious. The bread... THE BREAD! In a word, awesome. The guy makes his own bread, roasts his own beef and turkey. The giardinara is homemade and delicious. The ingredients of each sandwich have been carefully selected, and the balance of all the ingredients is perfect. The 'regular" sized sandwich is plenty for my healthy appetite. The owner Dominick is very personable and has an obvious passion for food and the success of his business. He treats everyone that comes in as a friend and wants to make sure you come back. My first visit. I ordered the Italian beef with Mariana and mozzarella cheese. Excellent. Bread was nicely toasted.

Sinfully fresh bread makes their Italian beef a sandwich we'll be back for. At first we were skeptical of a beef being on soft sub bread instead of the traditional Italian loaf, but we loved it! Our beefs were piled high and nicely flavored. The service was friendly and informative as we were there at the same time as another couple who was also there for the first time. The staff was happy to answer questions and give a taste of the beef. We still like a traditional beef but this is a nice alternative. Can't wait to try some of their other subs as well. read more

I had the Pizza Sub with chips and a drink, that set me back a good $14. Was a little surprised when I was told the total. I dont understand how you can stay in business with those prices. Sub shops all around you sell the same combo between $7-$10. The bread was the only thing good about the sub. Really needed a lot more cheese added to it if you want to call it a "Deep Dish Sub" Would also like the option for a wheat bread. Also there is not a good selection of sides. Not sure if I will be back there any time soon. I may need to take a part-time job up in order to pay for the subs from there. read more

Recently, I decided to try this place for the first time. I wasn't familiar with the menu upon arriving, so I wasn't really sure what I would be ordering. Luckily, the young man named Nick who was making the subs helped me out in picking the sub I liked. I had the sub with roast beef and ham and it was great! Absolutely love this place. I live nearby and have gotten almost the whole menu at this point. The meat and cheese seem to be of a much higher quality then subway or any other chain stores. The sandwiches are pretty expensive but they are very filling. I almost always have left overs. read more

I would describe bubs subs as jimmy johns and Quiznos had a local baby. The subs are great and they offer a variety of meats.

I had the regular size club bub(#6) with extra cheese and it was great. I was going to get a large but then I saw the price was like $12 which was too much for me. But the regular size was a good size, especially considering I got all the toppings but other than the price, everything was good. Wow! This place is the best! I ordered a regular El Nino Italian Beef. It was amazing! The flavor, juciyness of the beef, the bread, and the homemade giardinera make this an outstanding sandwich. The regular is piled with beef too. I also got a 3 Amigos. Another excellent choice you can't go wrong with.
