I have been taking my 3 year old standard poodle to Dana at Bubbles N Bows for almost 2 years. In those two years, I've had zero problems. I searched high and low to find a groomer that could do poodles; and, I will tell you that when it comes to that, Dana is the best in the Dayton area. Since we started going there, my recommendation has led to Bubbles N Bows acquiring at least 7 new clients. I recently added another standard poodle to my home. I called two weeks in advance of an outing that we attend every year with our spoo to make their grooming appointments. I clearly said my name and my dog's names on the phone - even spelled them twice. I even asked the receptionist if she could clarify with Dana that it would be ok to bring them both in on the same day, since I know standard poodles take longer to groom. The girl put me on hold for a few brief moments, and came back to say, "ma'am, Dana said that would be fine". My mom dropped my dogs off for their appointment (as normal) with the instructions I had given her; which was: lamb cut same as normal, a little shorter on Ruskin's legs (his aim is terrible), and don't touch their tails (no one wants a poodle with a lions tail). The receptionist even asked if I wanted them cut shorter on the body - to which my mom responded, "no, she always leaves them longer on their bodies because Ruskin is skinny". Fast forward 4 hours, I pick my dogs up. The shop was an absolute madhouse. People everywhere; all the workers seemed overwhelmed and confused. I also didn't recognize any of them. I paid and hurriedly got my dogs to the car because of how crazy the place was. I didn't have time to look at their cuts. I get home, let the dogs out of the car, and am completely mortified. My gorgeous standard poodle was completely butchered. His head did not look like it belonged on his body; nothing about his cut was even and he had clipper burn on his nose and in between every single toe. There are places on his spine that have zero hair. He has a white patch on his chest that was completely shaved down with a 10 blade. I called the salon as soon as I got home to speak with the owner (and whom I thought had groomed my dogs); I was told she wouldn't be in until next week. I immediately knew what had happened - someone else had groomed my dogs. The girl I spoke with on the phone was very defensive - in regards to the new puppy, she said "I scissored that whole dog". Tell me how it is that I bring two standard poodles in to a shop for the same haircut - one comes out completely shaved, the other is a big fluff ball that wasn't touched. He didn't even receive the equivalent to a tidy trim. The only thing that I could tell was done was that he got a bath and his feet were trimmed. Thankfully, whoever did that did not clipper burn them. My other standard wasn't as lucky. He was being groomed for a Poodle Party that we go to at the lake every year. With how his feet looked; we weren't able to go over fear of them getting infected. He spent the weekend in a cone with Neosporin on his paws. I was told by the lady, Lynn, that groomed Ruskin that there had been a mistake made by the receptionist. My two standard poodles were mistaken for another family members labradoodles. Tell me how in the world standard poodles get mistaken for labradoodles?!?! If you can't tell the difference between a labradoodle and a standard poodle (especially when they are clipped in a typical standard poodle cut); maybe you shouldn't claim to be a professional groomer. Someone (receptionist, bather, groomer, etc...) should have realized that a mistake was made and I should have been called before anything was done to my dogs. I would have gladly picked them up and waited to take them back when Dana was in. If you know anything about standard poodles - you'll know that it's difficult to grow out their ears and maintain them; it'll take months for my spoo's ears to look the same as they did before the hack job he received. Dana called me on Saturday - really all that came out of the conversation was her offering for me to bring the dogs in that day to have them fluffed up for the party. There was no fluffing up that could be done - my dog was completely shaven down on his body. It also would have been the same people that butchered him before doing the work since Dana was not in...so, my point on that was completely missed. I was told that there could be a "red flag" put in the system so that I would be notified in the future if a similar situation were to happen again. I got a lot of "I'm sorry's" but no one ever acknowledged how terrible of a hack job was done on my dog - I even showed pictures when I came in to the store to pick up my refund (which the owner wanted to put in the mail instead). Bottomline for me - Your business is as good as how it runs when the owner isn't there - Bubbles N Bows completely lost my trust in this regard. read more
