Hmm....after riding around cookeville for what seemed to be forever trying to decide what we wanted to eat, we came across this place on Yelp! We called prior to visiting to ensure they could do what we wanted based off the type of establishment this is. The people who work here were very friendly and the establishment was really clean. Reminded you of a seafood shop on someone's coast. We browsed the menu, inquired about suggestions, and settled for the "Hoot Plate" but instead of the steamed shrimp I requested for it to be friend. According to the menu it states the "Hoot plate" was $21.99 which included "bubbas way" (1 piece of corn, 1 piece of andouille sausage, and 2 red potatoes) along with the steamed shrimp. In order for them to prepare it fried I needed to pay an up charge, which was fine. So I'm under the impression that I would be charged $21.99 plus an additional to prepare the shrimp fried. When it was all said and done we were charged $36.17, to find that everything was run up individually. Price breakdown.... $19.99 for shrimp, $3.99 to fry it, $1.99 for drink and $6.99 for 1 piece of corn, 1 1/2 inch of sausage, and 2 quarter sized hush puppies. For $6.99 I honestly would expect a little more considering the amount I'm paying for the add on. My issue with this is why was I charged to get "bubbas way" when in the "hoot plate" bubbas way was included in pricing. I'm aware that fresh and good seafood is pricey, but to pay this and be given this amount of a side seems a bit stingy if you ask me. Overall, the shrimp was really good it could stand a little more salt, which she offered "slap ya mama" seasoning for us to sprinkle on it. If you're wanting a taste of Louisiana In Tennessee then run don't walk to this restaurant. This was the BEST tasting seafood we've had in a long time. My fiancé got the fried catfish and he said it was light and they were seasoned to perfection. I had the lunch special and I nearly licked my plate clean. This is a really neat place! This is like a little slice of the gulf right in the middle of Cookeville. A really neat find. My dad and I saw a flyer for Bubba Gandy's while walking through Dogwood Park and decided to drive over and give it a try. In typical gulf style, you can have it steamed there and eat it, or you can buy it and take it home to fix yourself. It is not a cheap place obviously, due to what you are getting. They have a large selection of fresh seafood that is mostly from the gulf it seemed like. It was all very fresh and seemed to be a good quality. We tried the snapper and the royal red shrimp. It was seriously delicious. We had them fix it for us there and it was done just right. The andouille sausage was also spot on. Delicious!! We were driving past the region and looking for a good and quick place to stop and have lunch. While our meal was packed full of "fried goodness" I definitely had food envy when I saw the other diner's meal. They knew that you get the crab legs Bubba style. Nevertheless, I was very pleased with my lunch & will return for the crab legs on the next trip - you can be sure of that. The service was very friendly and you are welcomed just as if you are one of the locals. The cooler had smoked fish dip, which I wish I could've taken with me. The frozen section was full off all kinds of goodies. Yet, the piece de resistance is the fresh fish counter. It is full of beautifully presented fresh and saltwater fish and seafood. Let me say if they were in my hometown, I would be a regular too! I will add that this is the cleanest seafood market I have ever been too. It's not a surprise they have won the Best of the best for the past 3 years (2019, 2020, & 2021.) No doubt they will win it again. To start with the place is extremely welcoming by the lady that comes around and takes your orders. It's decorated with so many reminders of the ocean. The fresh seafood available for take home is amazing as well as all of the interesting and rare products they have to sell. The catfish melted like butter in our mouths and the tartar sauce was hands-down the most delicious tartar sauce I've ever tasted in my whole life and I'm 69! The French fries are breaded, and just absolutely delicious. These people get it right, you have to try it if you're in the Cookeville area!!! I've never selected my seafood from a raw bar to be cooked. It all looked extremely fresh and very reasonably priced. You choose what you want from whatever is available that day and add Bubba's sides (corn, potatoes, sausage, and sauces). You can look into the kitchen and see them cooking your meal. Awesome place to get really fresh seafood. Nothing frozen here. Very clean. Prolly needs a couple more tables, but they also have takeout. There's no menu. I wish they would come up with a basic menu, even if it's on a whiteboard that they can update, to help me select stuff.
