Ate lunch there yesterday and not only was the food mediocre, but I witnessed the owner or manager absolutely talking to a young man that look like was probably having lunch with his mom or an older lady like a dog! I could hear the conversation he was very polite asked to see if she could send his company who had made a huge order a W9 or some kind of tax form, and the lady was absolutely so rude to him that I almost got up and said something. he was so Professional stood there and was like ma'am. I was just told to ask I didn't mean to upset you, but I will never be back to this establishment again. It sounded like he had something to do with the college there. If someone's giving me that much business, I don't think I would be talking to them the way she did.. you just lost a customer and hopefully the company he works for will never go back there. I grew up in CKVL and have loved Bobby Q's since the late 80's. I remember so many times with friends and family, sitting across from my Grandma and Papa, in the back room on the Washington location with all my family eating together. I missed seeing Mr. Migliore yesterday but things change. The food is still like I remember. I had my pulled pork with poolroom slaw and the fruit tea is amazing. It was delicious!!! The new Bobby Q's is the new Bobby Q's. For the locals - the service is different and that's a big adjustment. I encourage you to go back and take a bite of something you remember and talk about the time you used to eat with your Papa. The memories are still there. Keep local BBQ alive. It's wonderful what Monell's has done to keep this in our community. I decided to grab a bite gear on a trip home. Growing up, on weekends with dad we would get Bobby Qs and I remember it being really good especially the pool room slaw, which is spicy. Well...things change. The slaw was crunchy, spicy and really good and it stopped there. Everything else was okay. The meats were dry, and no smoke flavor that you expect from a BBQ joint. The environment was clean, friendly, and had cool stuff all over the place. Our server was talkative and amazing, she gave us some great recommendations. The place was not huge but had about 20 tables total It was similar to a diner style of service. The waitress was attentive and knew what she was doing. Several items were sold out on the day we went which is good for two reasons, 1. the food moves and is not old. And 2. it must be good if people have eaten it all. Positives: Ribs were good. My wife ordered curly loaded fries and they were extremely dry and bland , I ordered the baby back ribs and they were very dry as well , very chewy, like it was cooked and microwaved . Is Bobby Q's the best BBQ in Cookeville? Probably. Meanwhile, that's not a huge feat. Cookeville has poor food choices. On the other hand, the food at Bobby Qs comes in at a strong average. We sat and talked with Bobby (who can often be seen in the restaurant) and learned about his passion for BBQ. The good news is his meats are smoked out back on site. He mentioned to us that his restaurant was ranked top 40 in the nation. That's unrealistic. What you can count on is friendly service, lots of locals, fair prices and large portions. While Bobby Qs does make most sides on site, many of them lack flavor. Fortunately, the pulled pork, one of Bobby's signature items, is worthy of a mouthful. There's two sauces, a mild and hot and spicy that can be applied to increase the flavor, and you'll likely need to do so. Bobby also pushes his catfish, which fortunately is raised in the South, rather than purchased from oversees. He offers a few types of catfish: blackened, fried and mustard. I ordered the mustard, a recipe he said he was given from a guy in New Orleans, and it tasted no different than regular fried catfish. The catfish is average. I can't see anyone complaining about it, but raving reviews won't flood the market either. It's satisfying. We were exited to try the sides after Bobby mentioned they were homemade. Unfortunately, they didn't bring the buzz we anticipated. The fried okra and potato salad was bland. The mac and cheese, average and the corn on the cob tasted like it was previously frozen. Two things that will impress you: the fruit tea (similar to what they serve at Blue Coast Burrito) is good and the lemonade is mixed in house, rather than served out of the Coke machine. It's simple, when in Cookeville, whether to visit Tennessee Tech or just driving through (I'm not sure why else you'd end up here) there's few restaurants better than Bobbys. It's a consistent place to eat BBQ, where you'll surely leave with a full stomach and be content, but not begging to return. read more

This business has changed hands from the original owner and so has the quality of the food!! My family dined in or picked up on a weekly basis and we were so sad they closed due to family illness, yet we were so excited the business was bought, renovated and opened up by a new owner from Nashville that also owns Monell's. Unfortunately we couldn't have been more disappointed! Cafeteria style now, we ordered brisket and pork sandwiches (somehow, they were all brisket) and I have NEVER had so much salt on meat! I was starving and 2 bites of tough, salty meat is all I could muster. They don't have any french fries and the beans looked soupy, the mac & cheese looked old and dried up....nothing looked good especially our bill which was ridiculous! We spent $70 and the food so bad we didn't even bother taking it home to our dogs. DO NOT BOTHER TRYING this place! It's not the same as the old Bobby Q's.
