We're visiting out of town and saw this cute little shop and decided to try it. We got the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. We also got mild smoked wings and ribs. The pulled pork sandwich is good. I often find that sometimes pork is dry but this one wasn't. The sweet potato fries felt like they had just been warmed up. The ribs and wings were both chewy. Almost like they boiled the ribs. They were the consistency of boiled meat. The wings had a great outside texture but the inside was also chewy. I wouldn't recommend the ribs or wings. Saint Louis bbq is better for sure. read more

I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon & had the pulled pork special. I honestly don't know what else you could ask for. There was a short line at the drive thru (never go to a bbq joint with no line!) Service was prompt, The pork was good. Sauce was on the sweet side. Curly fries were great but I wish I'd tried the home made chips. This is a small mom-and-pop place. It's down on the side of the road in a red plywood building with no more than six tables inside and a few more outside. There is a rock pit in the back where you park. The pricing here is relatively inexpensive there are A list of meals ranging from $11 to family meals at $25 customer service is excellent. The barbecue ribs were slightly greasy and they only offered one type of sauce. The food was cooked perfectly was not very flavorful but was juicy and then with the ribs fell off the bone. As far as the average Tennessee barbecue this was arranged to be about a three. Despite that this place has a lot of charm friendly service and is relatively at a great price. If you find yourself in Cookeville and you don't want to go to a McDonald's or chain restaurant stop on down you'll enjoy yourself. read more

I consider myself a BBQ aficionado and I have to say this place is a real find in a small town like Cookeville. The meat is cooked perfectly every time and the serving is plentiful. The BBQ Baked Potato is hands down the best I've ever had. The potato is cooked all the way through so it's soft and always hot. I specify this because I've purchased them elsewhere and parts of the potato were cold- not here. This is a good local bbq diner / drive-thru with scrawled-on walls and a little opening on one wall from which heart and soul pour forth in the form of smoked meats, sauces and starches. The highlight of the menu is the idiosyncratic chicken tenders (a combo special is $5.99), which here means a smoked chicken breast cut up into strips (about the size of large steak fries), fried without batter, and smothered in bbq, mild, or hot sauce (like buffalo sauce). The "sweet vinegar" coleslaw is fresh and finely chopped (almost minced) with a clear, mild, low-acid dressing. Curly fries are slightly seasoned but not overpoweringly so, and tend toward the damp or soggy side. Housemade fresh-squeezed lemonade, like the coleslaw dressing, is mild and low-acid, but here with an aftertaste of karo syrup, like sweet tea with lemon but without the tea.
