I started doing my own braids and twists a few years ago and I've been to I wanna assume every hair supply from here to Schenectady around here and this place hands down always has everything I'm looking for. As a white woman with super natural, ethnic hair, I have never known how to properly care for my hair. I have been dying and bleaching and cutting my hair since 14 years old. I then met a woman of color and asked her respectfully if it would be weird or misappropriattion for me (as a young white woman) to get braids in my hair to help my natural hair grow in instead of shaving my head or spending thousands on extensions. Her response? "Hell no! Go to BSW and get this this and this and I will do them for you!" When I tell you, I walked in this store and was overwhelmed, I'm not joking. I found the first store associate I could (young girl whose name starts with an N) and asked her to show me around the store, and asked her all the questions I had (a lot). She was so patient with me and understanding. She brought me to the braiding hair section where I was able to ask more about length and material etc. I picked out the 3 colors I wanted and she also brought me over to the fast slip on and off wigs! Terrible merchants who have no respect or appreciation for their customers. Yesterday their internet was down so they could not accept credit cards for payment. I'm an occasional shopper who shops there 1 to 3 times per year, and yet it's not the second time I've experienced a problem with their registers and the internet in their store. Usually, they try to blame the customer and say it's their credit card that was declined when it's their crappy internet service. I've gone there for years and liked their selection for makeup and beauty tools, but I literally went to yelp today to find another source because it doesn't feel good to give people like this my money. read more

Poor exchange and return policy. I just purchased a wig, and when I tried it on at home, it didn't look good on me. Guess what? I can't return it or exchange it. They won't let you try it on in the store either. They just made a profit and I have to throw out the wig because I can't wear it. They don't care about customers' experience. ANNOYED! i purchased two electric straightening combs to keep in my salon in case the one i had burned out. i like to be ahead of any issues. when i went to open one up and plugged it in it worked for about ten minutes and now is useless. the cost was the same as when ever i buy other brands so this is not a case of you get what you pay for. I also bought 6 Jumbo bonnets that are so small they seem like they are a size for a baby. Im not sure who does the buying for this store but they do not think about quality at all. i really want to support the local stores but this is one i will never go back to. a total waste of money. I don't even want the additional disappointment opening the other iron as im pretty sure that one will be a malfunctioning tool as well. Black People and my other humans of color. Let's stand for the respect we deserve as humans and boycott this store. Upon entering, my friend and I calmly and efficiently began shopping for what we needed. A wonderful black female specialist helped my friend locate the hair she was looking for and I went up to purchase my things and place them in a bag so I could wait patiently for my friend. Once we both finished with purchased orders, my friend wanted to thank the excellent specialist Ashley. But, a small Asian woman ordered us to halt and leave our purchased bags with her and not go any further. We explained we wanted to say thank you to the specialist, and she said "I will do it, you can go". Offended, affronted, and in an utter state of shock, we both refused to allow her to take our purchased goods, but we recognized racial profiling when it happens. Unfortunately, none of us should have to pay to be disrespected and dehumanized. Black people spend your money elsewhere and give up convenience for self-respect. Buyers Beware! Please avoid this store at all cost! Anything they sell, you could get somewhere else or online. Not worth being treated like a thief or criminal nor spending your hard earned money there. The other yelp reviews regrading this store's poor and offensive treatment towards their customers are very factual. I took my Aunt there to purchase braiding hair. When she went in alone she paid for and brought the wrong brand. I returned with her to exchange for the correct pack of hair and the owner preceded to approach us as we were walking towards getting the right kind. He attempted to Confiscate the bag of hair we already purchased. We told him we were just there and it was merchandise we brought from his store only 15 minutes ago. He still insisted we give him the bag. At such point, we asked for a refund because we no longer wanted to do business anywhere that treats their customers like thieves. read more

This place is utterly ridiculous. They advertise prices but the items have a different price tag. They do not try to abide by the price tag they have on the item. When trying to voice your frustration to them, they seem not interested. They are literally so rude and have no customer service experience. I would not recommend anyone doing buisness at this store! One, they are over priced and there are plenty of beauty supply stores on central ave, that are deserving of your business. Second, their customer service is the ABSOLUTE WORST!!!! If you are indecisive of a potential purchase make sure you are informed of their return and exchange policy. DO NOT BUY IT!!!! Lost complete interest in this store. I use to come and get all of my hair supplies here but recently ice noticed how they change there policies to accommodate themselves and they are not concern with the customer experience at all. Just a quick buck. Not only are you not able to try your wig on before purchase which is absolutely crazy, you can't cone in with any bags in hand from previous shopping, nor a stroller. Excuse me, not everyone patron is a thief. Quality over quantity. I usually spend an average of $100 a visit. Never again will they get my hard earn dollar. Do yourself a favor and find another location to find your immediate needs and/or purchase online. It's businesses like these that need to leave the community. read more

I have NEVER been treated with such disrespect. I have overlooked the fact that whenever I go there I feel as though I am being watched, and prior to purchasing a wig, store policy prohibits trying them on...even with a wig cap, and patrons are not allowed to to carry hair purchases to the register. Today I was treated very disrespectfully by the manager who would not even let me speak as she kept talking while I was talking. I was accused of mistakenly purchasing the wrong hair...It was their fault and they were totally rude about it. I will NEVER shop there again. If I could give 0 stars I would. This place sucks and their attitudes match just that. I use to come to this place often as their prices on braiding hair was OK for the time. However, my problem is not with the prices but the people. I went to return an unopened pack of razor blades as they were not the right ones. I was meant with aggravation and attitude. Getting my money back was like pulling a steak from a lion. Clientele that comes in often should be treated like an that or as afterthought. Or even as "typical" because you've had enough or feel as though you can write off a whole community. This store is own by people who don't know how to manage customers correctly. I have always had good experiences here receiving the help I needed and getting what I came for. Unfortunately, when I stopped in yesterday my daughter was treated very poorly by the staff and I will now be reconsidering where we will be purchasing hair. For the first time ever my 13 year old was considering a wig. She found one she liked and was trying it on. I went to see if I could find a mirror for her and a woman (Asian, medium build, short man hair) flew around the corner and said "Are you seriously trying a wig on?"before we could respond she said "Every single stand says 'no try on wig'" (which is not true and the ones that are marked are in small print) she stood there with her eyes bugging out of her head like she could not even believe that someone looking for a wig for the first time might miss the sign. Instead of leaving it at that she proceeded to follow us around watching us from the end of each aisle. This employee could seriously benefit from an anger management/ business ethics class. She could of very simply stated that "Unfortunately, we don't allow anyone to try on wigs for safety/health purposes." Instead she spoke to my 13 year old like she was stupid and degraded us by following us around the store like we were going to steal something. We do not live in Albany and we come out of our way from Saratoga to shop at this business. We were interested in a wig, extensions and braiding hair but only left with a wig and 1 package of extensions because I was frustrated with my experience and just wanted to leave. I have spent a pretty penny in this store before and am very hurt by the way my child was spoken to. read more

While BSW Beauty Supply is one of the few large suppliers of quality wigs in current styles, the fact that they've stopped allowing customers to try twigs on before making a purchase is huge big disappointment. Customers may as well order online at a cheaper price. A quick jaunt to NYC or NJ is another option, of course...it's fun to try them on with other women and share tips, advice, laugh, etc. read more
