Let me preface this review by stating that I am not the biggest fan of Bavarian food, but felt…read moreobligated to have at least one traditional local meal while traveling through Bavaria. We had the beer-fried cheese as an appetizer; it was a good comfort food. I had the veal schnitzel which came with a cornmeal coating. I am not sure the cornmeal coating worked as it was more crunchy than crispy (1 star off), but the veal was tender and seasoned well. My husband got the bratwurst with sauerkraut. The ground meat to make bratwurst in Bavaria is more homogeneous and smooth than that in the U.S.; I liked the texture and flavor. I left still feeling the same about Bavarian food unfortunately, but this place gave me a bit more optimism.

The waitstaff is really friendly and accommodating to foreigners who don't speak German. They have an English menu too which is great. Everything my party ordered was amazing! There was no food left on the table once we were through. I ordered the roasted salmon and it was amazing. So flavorful and fresh tasting. My husband ordered the salmon pasta and that was really delicious as well. They have plenty of seating indoors and even have a kids seat. I highly recommend if you're in the area. I'll definitely be returning again if I'm ever in town.

This place was our first stop in Oberammergau for food. My husband picked it, so I had no clue what…read morewe were stepping into other than "it's German food". The owner greeted us right away. He was very funny and interacted with the kids right away. After ordering our drinks, he sat next to my son in the booth and started doing magic tricks. My husband and I found it hilarious, while our 4 yr old was mystified. The kids loved their Mickey and gang cups (it's the small things in life). The menu was huge with lots of options. We ordered goulash for starters. SO GOOD! The kids had noodles, which my daughter devoured. I had Jagersnitzel which was also amazing. The portions are HUGE. After being in Germany for a couple months, I have to say this has been the best German I've had since being here. Mixed with the ambiance and entertainment, I'd go back again and again! You won't be disappointed!

Everyone in our group enjoyed their food so I don't think you can make a wrong choice from the menu. The owner came over and did three magic tricks. One assisted by a young girl who was celebrating her birthday and her brother. The magician explained the trick afterwards to them and us, but the other two tricks he did not and we couldn't figure them out. He was very good and had an excellent sense of humor. Definitely make a reservation or you may not get to eat! Well worth a visit, especially if you have kids. The owner/magician speaks several languages so he can entertain everyone. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

With a couple of tourist trap restaurant disappointments, we've decided surely the #1 rated by a…read moretrip review and such rave reviews all over the net, would be money well spent. Wrong. Let me start out by saying that the food is completely over rated, their beer tasteless and the owner just bluntly discriminated us as we were non German. My wife and I had a reservation and arrived on time. However, we were seated on the undesirable high traffic area, as the other couple with no reservation (Germans) were seated in more "Reserved" like seating. After our order was taken, it took a FULL HOUR before we saw the start of our meal, when the couple with no reservation were almost done with their dish. However, I kept my patience at check, as I was anticipating a worthy meal. We've ordered simple salad starters which of course no one could really mess up. And then for the main meal, I've gone with their steak which wasn't no where near tender and seriously, any cheap sleazy bar could have pan fried it better, and my wife had ravioli, which really looked like pot stickers with thick doughy skin and mushy and tasteless filling. The owner is supposedly overly nice and welcoming as other reviews mentioned, but only to the German and caucasian customers which was obvious. How blunt was it? She asked how the food was etc to 3 tables next to us, and then walked right by our table and didn't mention a thing to us the whole night, as she went back to other tables on a multiple occasions. Even the ladies at the table next to us gave us a weird look as if we had offended the owner or something. Bottom line, complete and outrageously over rated food, and with an obvious racially discriminating owner, I so regret spending my hard earned money there.

"So when you really love me, Darling, bring me Edelweiss. So when you really love me, You should…read morebring me Edelweiss" tönte es einst in meiner Jugend.

We ordered the jäger schnitzel, pork medallions with a mushroom cream sauce, and I had the nurnberg style sausage with sauerkraut. Let me just say that the sauerkraut was on point. I could of eating a ton of it. To most that would sound gross, but no doubt it was good. The mashed potatoes were the best I've had as well. The pork and the schnitzel had a cream sauce that had you nearly losing your bearings, and drink the stuff alone. The meat was tender and well taken care of. There wasn't anything to critique on the food for us. They served us Ettal beer. It was from the monestary in town. The doppelbock was really good. The Dunkel was good. Monk beer in our experience has always been a favorable experience. No wonder friar Tuck was always so jovial.
