Driving around Islip, I stopped into Gio's hopeful for a decent slice and I got exactly what I…read moreneeded. Not only do they have an extensive list of pies, they had Sicilian slices, too. I got a slice of the "grandma" which is a think New York style with garlic, and two slices of Sicilian cheese. Both were delicious - and the Sicilian crust was just slightly crisp enough to a little crunch to each bite. Just what I expected. And the friendly staff were the cherry on top. Stop into Gio's if you're ever near by - you'll be glad you did!

My husband and I recently stumbled upon Gio's Pizza & Restaurant during an extended stay in Islip…read more We moved from New York to the West Coast and have been dying for some quality, delicious New York pizza. Gio's Pizza & Restaurant was everything we loved and missed. It truly tasted like a slice of home for us. Delicious and fresh slices with friendly and quick service, we could not have asked for a better experience. We found ourselves coming back several times during our trip. Gio's Pizza & Restaurant is located in a small strip of shops with free parking shared among the businesses. The establishment has several chairs and tables for customers to sit and enjoy their slices. Many people at the time of our visits took their food to go, but it's nice that they have the option to eat in if people would prefer that. They offered many different types of pies on display and also had some awesome daily specials. I'm fairly simple with my order with a plain slice and some garlic knots, but my husband tried an array of things and enjoyed everything. Gio's Pizza & Restaurant is going to be a staple place for us to visit the next time we're in Islip. Excellent food, good service, and fair pricing.

The wood on the walls. The floors. The red bench seats. All old school pizzeria. None of this new fancy art Deco stuff. I was simple. I ordered regular cheese slices. There are so many specialty slices offered. If you go. Be adventurous. I didn't go old school and get a fountain drink, I got a bottle Snapple. The pizza had a slight snap of the bread when folded. I miss thin crisp Pizza with a snap. The pizza good flavor in fact I had two slices and went back for a third. The other thing I noticed is the breading didn't have added sugar. It's not easy to find a pizza place that doesn't add sugar to their dough. I had to ask to confirm and I was told no sugar. I really appreciate that. The slices were served hot without any burnt or hard parts of the pizza. It was crispy warm gooey where it needed to be and chewy. Delightful slice

Food is ready promptly, always packed neatly and pizzas are thin, great sauce and a good amount of gooey cheese. This particular day, I wanted to try the deep dish and hadn't seen many posts about it. It's dense and not your traditional Chicago deep dish but doughy with crispy edges and a heaping amount of cheese. It came piping hot so waited to tear the slices apart. One thing I did notice was that it seems the middle may be 2 layers bc when I went to eat it, some points the layers separated. Still delicious and amazing reheated in the oven the next day! Also, the price may seem high for this pizza but you'd be full after just 1 so consider how many people can eat just 1 pie!

Furci's Pizzeria - Bayport…read more First impression when pulling up -- this place is massive. Then you realize it's a market along with a pizza spot. The pizzeria itself is actually pretty small, with just a few tables and a small counter area. There's a good variety of pizza and specialty items, and the staff was attentive even though they were pretty busy. We came specifically because of all the recent buzz about their New Haven-style pizza. We've been to New Haven many, many times, and unfortunately, while the attempt is definitely there, New Haven it is not. If you've never had the real thing in New Haven, you might think, "Okay, I get it," but the South Shore of Long Island is still a long way from New Haven, Connecticut. The Bambinos were tasty, but the best thing we had was the Chicken Alla Vodka with fresh mozzarella. Thin-cut breaded and fried chicken with fresh mozz -- really good. Unfortunately, the vodka sauce itself was a little bit of a letdown. Overall, we weren't disappointed. There were some good bites, the staff was solid, and there's plenty to choose from. Definitely worth stopping in if you're passing through Bayport, but I wouldn't make the trip expecting a true New Haven pizza experience.

As someone who probably takes pizza a little more seriously than any reasonable adult should, I can…read moreconfidently say this place deserves all five stars. I've tried pizza from Montauk to Manhattan it's nothing short of amazing. The New Haven-style pizza was fantastic. Thin, crisp, beautifully charred, and with just the right amount of chew. That slightly blistered crust brought exactly the flavor you want from this style of pizza. No flop here, just crunch and crisp all the way through. I think Dave Portnoy would be impressed. Then came the Sicilian, and somehow they managed to crush that too. Thick, light, and airy on the inside with that perfectly crisp bottom that makes a great Sicilian so satisfying. What impressed me most was how well they executed two completely different styles of pizza. Plenty of places can make one good pie. Doing New Haven-style AND Sicilian this well? That's when you know the kitchen knows what it's doing. Great ingredients=Great pizza Five stars all the way!

First off, the owner (blonde haired, fair skinned guy) is very rude! No warmth, not inviting, very straightforward, resting (b)itch faced, doesn't care if you're a regular, "if you don't like my food then don't come here" kind of guy. Not aggressive, just cold. Was a regular customer for years, stopped coming when I had to go gluten-free for medical reasons, they don't carry gluten free pizza. (Maybe now they do? Not sure.) I knew of the previous owner back in the 90s, was so much nicer! The pizza was good, the prices were reasonable, the Italian ices they used to scoop out from the freezer were always smooth. I do have a lot of positive childhood memories from eating here as a kid. Stopped coming around 2011 due to the lack of gluten free options, and the owner's horrible attitude. Have no interest in coming back. Can't say whether or not I recommend the Pizza Shoppe based on the current quality of their food, but based on the past, don't recommend.
