I wouldn't know what kind of work they actually do, because they never actually did the job. What I do know is that they set us back about 6 weeks on the selling of our house, and, while I don't know this for sure, I believe they cost us tens of thousands of dollars in that delay due to falling housing prices. We received an estimate from them for a new septic field. They said they would call us to schedule the job. We never heard from them. We called, texted and emailed them but they never called us back. We only found out 6 weeks later, because our realtor ran into them somewhere, that they decided not to do the job. Meanwhile, they also told us that it would take a year to get a permit and would cost $75,000. But, in fact, another company got the permit in one month and charged us $28,000. The 6-week setback cost us time, money and stress. In the end, we are glad it didn't work out. But someone who can't send a simple text saying we aren't going to do this job, really shouldn't be in customer service. Should get one star, but giving two cuz they seemed like really nice guys and we were aware they were dealing with a family tragedy. But just one simple text in the beginning would have made a huge difference to us and not doing that caused your crisis to become our crisis. I can't say enough of this company including business partners Darren Brown and Ken Stevison. Finding a company that can install septic risers on my tank residing below a concrete driveway was challenging on its own, not to mention what seems to be a commonplace problem in this industry of terribly poor communication skills. These guys are real pros. First, they know septic systems inside and out from construction to maintenance and repairs. As a high maintenance client, I need to have a thorough technical understanding of the project before hiring a contractor. Ken and Darren afforded me substantial time on the phone and on-site explaining their planned approach including recommended materials and methods to get the project done right. Furthermore, their estimate of costs included the same level of detail and rationale of pricing in a way you have full confidence in their competency and honesty. Through the process of scoping and executing the work, they maintained regular communication with me in reviewing options and providing progress updates. Finally, they are nice guys and were very accommodating of our needs during construction. I doubt you will find better contractors for your septic needs. read more

They kept me informed every step of the way & are very professional, great at diagnosing complicated issues in a timely manner, kind, caring & extremely fair, price wise. Okay, my original review was clipped as I did not say enough to clarify why I gave a one star. Anyone who reviews my lately reviews on yelp; knows I am under severe duress from Knox roofing despicable behavior, the leading up to my brothers suicide, and then a overflowing septic tank. I called them, from one to 10, I was about level two in shrill, voice. I was frustrated by these things and about four other big bills coming in, life was closing in on me. Meanwhile as I am wallowing over my only siblings demise; the toilet was not flushable, the laundry undone, the dishes undone, the tenants beginning to complain about the backup of the septic tank, overflowing slightly; but not usable, so I had to curb back to the point; I began to feel ripe, the place stunk, the poop policy of; of yellow is mellow; brown flush down was violated, had to poop on top of poop and it stunk my whole tiny studio. This went on since Jan. I was unable to get help from the good septic tank people, Goodenough, and others they were backed up with work, but pleasant and Costal Septic, Steve no longer does deep septic work, only pumps these days, I was going down the list and for one reason or another everyone I tried was not around to help. So I call Brown, and he calls back saying he is too busy and could not possibly help me. Okay I was fine with that, but ops it turns out I had written to him meanwhile, with just two sentences, and he wrote back saying he be happy to help me, immediately. Oh but gee that is me you just said to piss off. So I wrote back saying busted, and he wrote back saying he is too busy and that if he had to break contracts he would be sued. BUT he had already said he could help my other persona. In my book this is a liar. Continued with whaaah, I will be sued if I helped you but only a few minutes before he could help but the initial conversation he just could not possibly help due to over work. Can't, can, can't. Will be sued if I do. This is a long fib. read more

Browns Underground Septic has been a life saver! I called Ken & Darren from Browns Underground Septic Construction when I was in a time crunch to find out information regarding a failed leach line at a property I was selling. I got them on the phone right away, and they were able to fit me into their schedule that very day. They came out to the property, and remembered it from an inspection they had done a year ago. They were able to assess the site and issues and gave me several recommendations for repairs. Later that evening they sent me a written estimate of the costs to replace the leach line, and gave me the name of a County of Santa Cruz Environmental Health Inspector that could assist me. I am so grateful they were so professional, helpful and knowledgeable regarding how to proceed with the repair. I felt so relieved to know their honest and direct approach got me the information I needed for my client so quickly. We will now hire them to do the repair, and I know they will do the same high quality of work they have shown me so far. read more
