Had Steve out today -- after being referred by our general contractor and realtor -- to do our septic pump and presale inspection. We had previously had our tank pumped, and the company insisted our system was "shot" and needed to be replaced -- at a cost of $65,000. Steve came out ON TIME today, went through a thorough (twice the required time) capacity test, explained EVERYTHING to me, pumped the tank and gave us a clean bill of health. And all the while, he was great to talk to! read more

I have used Coastal Septic a few times in the past with satisfactory results, but recently an event has caused me to question the integrity of the company. They serviced my neighbors house this past winter and when they were done one of their trucks accidentally drove over a retaining wall on my property. Because it was in the back behind my shed they probably didn't think anyone would notice so they didn't report the damage. However, another neighbor of mine witnessed the whole event and informed me soon after. I have reached out to them and they are avoiding my calls, something a responsible company would probably not do. I felt like I should inform the community of their actions and neglect. read more

We have used Coastal for years and have had no problems. With that being said, our last experience was a total disappointment. We schedule a filter cleaning which I consider normal maintenance last week. The Coastal employee that showed up to do the job was not up to the usual professional standard that we have gotten over the past 20 years give or take. He was rude and condescending. He took offense to my watching them do the job and suggested to me that I could do the job for them when I informed him that the filter had two parts and needed to be separated. If I wasn't watching I do not believe it would have been done correctly. When it came time to pay He told me the price, and I asked if included the senior discount. That is when He became totally belligerent and proceeded to scold me for watching his work and insinuating that I looked down on his business. I paid him and told him we would never use their services again. I told him what I thought of his attitude and told him to leave my property. He didn't care for my comment and proceeded to get in my face and threatened physical conflict. As it turned out the employee that behaved this was the owner. Very sad. read more

Steve had to bust out some serious power-tools to decommission my new discovered abandoned septic tank, and I could not have had more confidence in him. this is the guy you want. read more

Steve at coastal septic is by far the best guy around. I had a series of unfortunate events and complications from a competitor. My septic pump up station and septic tank were both having issues and no one could resolve it. Steve took care of the issues, was honest and explained everything he was doing and why. He has helped me to restore the system to perfect working order and he did it for a fair price despite being tough work. read more

I would absolutely stay away from these guys! They came w/ a truck that the hose had holes in it, so they taped it. Plus they charge by the hour after first hour....due to holes it took them 5 hours!!!! This should be done w/ in 30mins...two weeks go by, I had to order a different septic guy who told me they never pumped our tank!!! read more

Steve is a pleasure to do business with. He was prompt to show up on time this morning and is certainly knowledgeable about his trade. I would happily refer him to anyone in Santa Cruz County who needs a pump service. read more

I booked to have my septic pumped last week. When speaking to the receptionist she said that it was good that my septic was going to be higher than the truck because gravity was on our side. Then 5 min before the time they were scheduled to arrive she called me and said the owner had looked up my house and was not willing to do the job and so would not be showing up. All I got was that it was something about the hillside, which had been an asset when I made the appointment, but now made the owner not want to come. She told me to call another company. It's incredibly unprofessional to cancel an appointment 5 min before you're due to arrive, especially when I spent hours the day before prepping the site, for no legitimate reason. So I guess if your septic is higher than the road don't call this company because they won't show up. read more

It's the first time I was ever charged 50% more. And I had the tank cover exposed. the owner showed up with the person who did the work. Generally it's a one man job. read more

We discovered the outlet pipe to our leach field had broken off inside our septic tank. He quickly assessed the problem and recommended installation of a new outlet T with filter. He even went above and beyond and made repairs inside the tank for other problems he discovered. Now we have an easily accessible tank with manhole covers with an easy to clean filter to maximize the life of our leach field. I highly recommend Coastal Septic for all your tank maintenance and repair needs. Very professional, friendly, and they clearly communicate recommendations to solve your septic issues. Thanks! read more

Coastal Septic - Working hard and doing a thorough job on my septic system. Thanks Steve! Love your passion! - Septic Services Near Me - Felton, California

I called Steve yesterday based on the other Yelp recommendations. He was able to come by and completely clean out both sides of my septic system in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Steve told me that he has been working on septic systems since the 1980s and a few years ago he went into business for himself. I do recommend Coastal septic for any and all of your septic needs. read more

This is the best septic service around. Steve, the owner personally explained what needed to be done to maintain the system and even gave me a discount on the service after it was apparent that it was overdue by several years. I will be using Coastal Septic from now on because of the professionalism, knowledge and reasonable pricing. read more

Treat you like family? Maybe the service is good, but their office lady Rhonda has a terrible attitude! Fake and rude! Over talker & will rudely hang-up on you. I'd rather pay the extra and take my business somewhere else because of this lady's demeanor. read more

Steve is the man! You don't have to consider going to any other septic service in the area because Steve is the only person to call. He is super friendly, on time and professional. When he first arrived he noticed that I had only uncovered one of the two inspection covers to the tank. No problem! With their help, I had it dug up in under 10 minutes. They really went above and beyond helping with this. I had a flow test done along with the pumping service. Steve went out of his way to explain how the tank was built, how it differs from other tank designs and what he is looking for while doing the flow test. Not only did I get great service, but now I know exactly what kind of tank to buy in any future home. He grew up just across the street from my house and he had a couple great stories to tell about the area. Everything passed with flying colors in the end and the inspection sheet was very detailed for our realtor & buyers to read. read more

Steve and his partner came by last week to complete the cleanup of our septic tank. They did an awesome job. The work was completed within a few hours. In addition, Steve also switched the leach fields and put RootX through the input pipes. What impressed me the most was that he not was very capable and proficient in the work that needed to be done but also took the time to look at the sewer and point out that our float switch was not working properly since the alarm light was on. He explained that while the float was working normally by triggering the sewer pump to push the fluids to the leachfield, since the alarm interface was not working properly, we would not know if there was a serious problem with either the float switch or the sewer pump. He called our pump company and notified them of the problem. Overall, an outstanding job. read more

Coastal Septic came out next day. He was very helpful as he explained how our system worked, the benefits and cons of our system and how often it should be emptied to function properly. We found them to be very truthful were extremely satisfied with the service and will call Coastal Septic again when it is time to empty our system. read more

We needed someone right away and Steve worked with our schedule. He is reliable, thorough, knowledable and friendly. What delight to have someone that cares about his work the way he did. He definitely wanted to make sure we were satisfied when he left and indeed we were! read more

Our experience with Steve was wonderful from our very first connection until he finished the job. His bid was detailed, and he explained what he recommended in a very clear manner. He let us know, in advance, when he would be coming to do the job, and showed up on time. The work he did was super clean. Sounds funny when talking about a septic system, but seriously, he takes that kind of care. He did extra stuff he didn't have to do. For example, after installing the tank, he graded the ground around the tank so that it was level, and he swept up all the dirt and gravel on the site -- even though it wasn't part of the mess of the job. Finally, he had a family emergency towards the end of the job that delayed the finishing touches. He communicated all the way through that process too, and didn't leave us hanging. On the con side, when I first called to get a bid, Steve's receptionist said that he wasn't taking bids right now. In a way though, that con was a plus. He doesn't commit to work unless he can do it well and within a certain time horizon. For us it worked out, because I had 6 other septic companies come to our house, and only one of them gave me a bid (I called the other 5 them for months without reply). So I tried calling Steve again to see if he was available, and he was, and it was all goodness after that. If the other companies were not such flakes, we wouldn't have had the great experience with Steve. He was definitely worth the wait. read more

I want to echo what someone else said "Steve Johnson is the Man! No nonsense, alert and energetic, fair, 100% reliable (almost unheard of in these parts). He has gone well out of his way to help me on two occasions without gouging me for it. Sterling integrity. Highly recommended! read more

I live near some large redwoods who's roots had invaded by septic tank. When the tank was pumped four years ago by another company, instead of trying to get them out, they left them in the tank saying that they would eventually decompose. Well they floated up and eventually blocked the inlet to the tank. I called several septic services, and none, except Steve Johnson would tackle the problem of getting the root mass out of the tank. Steve did an excellent job, he is professional, honest and a joy to work with! read more

I can't say enough good things about Steve and his wonderful customer service. He was extremely thorough and really cleaned out the tank and all the sludge at the bottom and took the extra time to make sure it was totally clean. He was very prompt and courteous and explained everything he was doing. Steve still practices that old fashioned customer service that so many people are lacking these days and it was very much appreciated, and his rates are very reasonable. I was starting to think that no one cared anymore about good customer service...Steve truly does and I would highly recommend him to everyone. Great guy, thanks again. read more

Coastal Septic came to inspect our septic tank. The house is new to us and we were not familiar with septic tanks. Steve was prompt and respectful. He dug out the septic tank and carefully saved the plants that had to be disturbed for this digging. He was also super helpful explaining the septic system and showing me where everything was. We had worried this would be terribly expensive, but felt the bill was very reasonable. I feel secure giving Steve the best rating ever. read more

Steve Johnson was on time, returned calls promptly, and offered alternative solutions to choose from. He spent a significant amount of time (on site, and later, by phone) explaining the situation we were facing so we could understand our options. He was great about following up with the regulators at the county and conveying that information. After completing the repairs to our septic tank, he sent before and after pictures, which was helpful, considering that it all gets buried after it's done. read more
