I enjoyed the friendly service and nice yet small outdoor seating area at Browndog in Downtown Farmington. I ate brunch with several friends on a Saturday afternoon. Despite the neighborhood being busy because of the farmer's market and Halloween festivities, the area around Browndog was relatively calm and not noisy. My friends ordered the Brunch Poutine and the Bacon Brie Burger. I have to say I think I made the best choice ordering the Nashville Hot Chix & Waffles and Duck Fat Fries. My friend's burger looked a bit on the small side, and the Brunch Poutine is just regular fries with egg, cheese, and sausage. The Nashville Hot Chix & Waffles had a combination of savory, spicy, and sweet with a larger portion of meat - both chicken and bacon - than the other dishes at the table. It was large enough that I ended up with half of it taken home as leftovers. The Duck Fat Fries are crispy. I recommend ordering them over regular fries. The waiters and waitresses who worked there were very accommodating and friendly. We sat there for hours chatting and never felt rushed to leave. There is a free parking lot around the back of Browndog and free street parking in the front if you are lucky to find a spot. This is a lovely brunch spot, and I would eat here again. read more

My brother suggested trying this unique little restaurant near his neighborhood. We arrived at 5:30 on a Friday and there were only 2 other people seated up at the bar so we had our pick of tables. By the time we left around 7, it was busy. I noticed many people were just popping in to grab an ice cream but we had a full meal, starting with some local beer on tap - I tried their brown ale, which was good. For food, I opted for the pulled pork tacos, which were tasty, but a little messy and hard to eat. My brother had a burger and said it was ok but a little salty. Instead of appetizers, we made sure to save room for dessert since this "barlor" is known for its ice cream. I actually ended up going for one of their "barlor-tinis" since it's such a rare menu item, and I was not disappointed. My brother ended up ordering the boozy milkshake, which I thought was a little expensive but they're so big you could probably split between 2 people. I spent a good chunk of time at this Browndog for a planning and scheming meeting with my team yesterday and had an excellent experience. We strolled in right before the end of happy hour and loaded up on tasty cocktails, beer, and bites like the truffle fries, nachos, and street corn at discount. Of the three apps we split, the nachos and the truffle fries were my favorites. The aioli for the fries was rich and garlicky and the fries themselves were perfectly seasoned, light, and crispy. We liked them so much we ordered another round almost immediately. The corn was the only thing that was a little disappointing. The flavor was good but the texture felt a little mushy. Corn is out of season so it's never quite as good /anywhere/ this time of year so I'd be curious to head back in the summertime to see if it's improved. We also split the Browndog burger which was half off as part of their Thursday night special. This burger was a double beef patty with gruyere, "Browndog slaw" (a tasty concoction of lettuce, pickles, onion, and garlic aioli), and a deep fried, poached egg. Drool! This burger also typically comes with bacon but my burger sharing partner doesn't eat pork so we skipped that. It tasted excellent even without that applewood smoky oomph. For a beverage, I enjoyed one of the cocktail specials which was a scoop of the boozy strawberry sparkle sorbet topped with with prosecco. I also had more than a few sips of the "Drunken Muppet" special milkshake that we split at the table, which was also excellent. This baby was a milkshake made with their Cookie Monster ice cream with dark chocolate liquor and other yumminess that is escaping me right now. If it's on the menu when you're there, I highly recommend this one. Our service was excellent. We were there for a solid 3 hours and our server was incredibly patient, easy going, and attentive. Restrooms are sparkling clean and even though the dining room isn't huge, it was nice and comfortable for our group throughout the evening. Oh! They also have pints of ice cream and ice cream cakes to go. You bet I bought two pints--the Cookie Monster (a blue tinted cookie dough ice cream with 3 cookies crumbled in), and the Who Needs a Therapist (a dark chocolate ice cream with peanut butter ribbons). Pints are pricey but they have a buy 3 get one 1 free deal and the quality is high since it's a local, small batch creamery so I have no problem splurging on these every so often. read more

We've visited for just boozy drinks and drinks and dessert, sitting at the bar, and brunch, sitting at a half booth table. Each time we've had very good service and tasty drinks, ice cream and food. Booze: the basics (our wonderful local distilleries) plus other less familiar options. Ice Cream: wow, they have some unique flavor combinations! Heck, we got to try their bone marrow and cherry ice cream during our last visit! You can get a scoop or two of their daily options options (ask for a taster...or 3!), but they also carry pints to go. Food: brunch options were numerous, and we've had problems narrowing them down. We've had both sweet and savory dishes - all yummy! Ask your waiter for recommendations. Bloody Mary Bar: yes! They offer alcohol options (If you haven't tried gin in your Bloody Mary, I highly recommend it!), mix options, and some fun toppings. I'm a sucker for toppings. Fill up your skewer stick judiciously so you can cram as many things on it as possible. Location: we've been lucky to be there when they're not super busy, but we've called a couple weekend mornings and been told they were packed with a huge wait. I stopped at Browndog before going to the Farmington Civic Theater, right down the block. Even though it was after 1:00, I was thrilled to see that they were still serving brunch. This is a tiny restaurant: a counter, maybe 10 tables and a few more outside, so I was glad that it was not crowded. There was a new staff person being trained, so service was a little slow. But, I was interested in her being trained, and she was doing a good job. I ordered Croque Madame but requested the egg be cooked hard. It came out PERFECTLY to my liking, which is very rare, as I like very solid eggs. It even had a bit of crunch on the white, which I really like. I am impressed that they did exactly what I asked for; too many places seem to think it can't possibly what I mean. They also have ice cream, but I didn't see the kind of cooler that most ice cream places have. They do sell it by the cone as well as in pints. They have interesting names and flavors, such as Who Needs a Therapist. I was too full to get ice cream, but it was definitely intriguing. I showed up around then and she and her boyfriend were already there, but she told me that they didn't have the table prepared when they got there ... (minus 1 star? guess it depends on what time they got there). The food is like an 8 out of 5 stars here. Seriously. I am NOT a brunch person but I was pleased to see a Brussels sprouts skillet ($11) - I ordered that minus the egg and it was fantastic. Besides Brussels sprouts, it had potatoes, peppers, and bacon, all fried in duck fat ... delicious. Some friends opted to get the boozy milkshakes, which looked good, but I was holding out for the ice cream flight ($9.50), which I had seen in pictures on Yelp. It was worth the wait ... I ordered the BOCO (Blood Orange Coconut sorbet), boozy Dirty Girl Scout, Cookie Monster, and vegan PB&J (they have vegan options!). Our waitress accidentally brought me Grasshopper ice cream instead of BOCO, but ironically, that was the flavor I ended up liking the best. In order of favorite to least: Grasshopper - minty and refreshing and delicious Vegan PB&J - they make it with almond milk and I put it on par with Love's, in Grand Rapids (who uses coconut milk), which is a high compliment from me. Cookie Monster - standard but very good. Dirty Girl Scout - just okay, I was hoping it'd be a bit better. BOCO - tasted like I was eating perfume, but that might have been because I ate it after all the other flavors ... The only reason Browndog gets 4.5/5 from me instead of 5/5 is that our server would disappear for a while ... we had an extra water glass at our table so I stole that to replenish my water supply. Later on she did come by and ask if anyone wanted refills, though. When you cash out, you do it on a tablet, which is very convenient if you are paying with a credit card, also - you select your tip amount on it (and the waitress discreetly looked away while I did it, too). Also, when I originally looked up the menu for Browndog, I wanted to order everything on it - that's because I was looking at the lunch/dinner menu, so I'll have to come back for that. Their brunch menu, however, is super unique too, and friends ordered everything from a croque madame (topped with an egg AND maple syrup) to chicken & waffles - in a waffle cone - to steak and egg breakfast tacos. So impressed with this little spot! My go to favorite brunch spot across the street was closed for maintenance, so I'm so glad we found this place! Came for a late lunch/early dinner on one of the first beautiful Saturdays of the patio season. They were slammed quickly with one waitress and maybe 2 people cooking, so service was pretty slow, but she comped a beer and was very apologetic, so no worries! We weren't in a rush. They were slammed and no one even was able to greet us in a few minutes, so we decided to go elsewhere as we had our little one with us. Second place we went, we were put on a 20 minute wait. My husband and I were in the area after a different establishment quoted us an hour wait so we popped into Browndog. While they were busy, there was a couple seats at the bar so we took a seat and were promptly greeted and given ice waters. We ordered two beers to start, and while the girls behind the bar were busy, they didn't hesitate to give us samples or answer any questions. We put in our orders for a beer chz burger and a bacon Brie burger. We nursed our beers and could clearly see the kitchen was busy so we expected a little wait. Our food came out nice and hot and looked so good! My husband isn't a huge burger lover but inhaled his burger in a few bites. He was so happy with the bacon Brie burger, the jam and bacon compliment each other so well. I LOVED the pretzel bun on the beer chz burger - I said over and over it's the best pretzel bun I ever had. So soft and salty (and even stayed soft eating my leftovers the next day) The fries: the house fries are my new favorites. Perfectly salty and crispy. I was on one of my frequent business trips to the Farmington Hills area and found Browndog using Yelp. It seemed interesting as well as good, so i went for it. It's a nice find! I had an "Awesome Mule" from the happy hour menu. Great tasting and a lot of kick for $6. Then, had the Caesar salad with bacon from the HH menu, too. Excellent and a different presentation in that it is a romaine heart cut longitudinally in half with the goodies dressed on it. It's sort of like a wedge salad in spirit. Very good! The next thing was good in a way, but not what i was expecting. I ordered truffle fries, not realizing their truffle fries are dressed with melted Chocolate truffles instead of the subterranean fungus. Oops. Well prepared, but not what I was looking for. Then, I went for the HH ice cream cake. Wonderful local ice cream on top of a chocolate fudge cake. Salted caramel sauce goes on top of the butter cream icing. It's a big piece that I could not finish, but not for lack of trying or wanting to! Really excellent and make sure you scrape up all the caramel. Service was very good as well. Came here with the best team to have a work meeting, it turned out to be a neat experience. Their happy hour is legit! It's Tuesday-Friday 3pm - 6pm and Wednesdays it's all day long. One hand, the corn was meh. The nachos on the other, was good. But the truffle fries on the other other hand (we have three hands), were very gooood. First time trying this restaurant and it was a mistake. Waited 40 minutes to be seated which we were fine with. However waited 15 minutes to even be acknowledged after we were seated. The waitress proceeded to greet 3 other tables that were seated after us first. Once we ordered food came out pretty quickly however just one of the 3 meals. I will say, almost everything was delicious Our server, Robert was crazy good, friendly and handled a lot of orders with patience and a smile. We went for our daughter's birthday and very happy with everything. Drinks were a little pricey...however, they were well made and they use a lot of Michigan made brands which is alway a great thing! This review is for the girls at the ice cream/dessert section and the desserts we purchased. The girls were friendly and helpful. They gave us samples of their 'well named' ice cream. The names are humorous and tastes great, the servings are fair also. I especially loved the chocolate cupcake which unfortunately had no name tag on the display. WOW OH WOW this place is good. I've visited twice now and each time have had a great experience. The first time was for taco Tuesday. I sat outside on their patio and had a great experience. The tacos were delicious and the service was great. I was catching up with an old friend and I never felt rushed to hurry up and order or pay our bill. I also tried the salted dog ice cream and it was amazing! I loved the brownie chunks and it tasted pretty unique. The next time I came with some friends on a rainy Thursday evening. It was much more crowded than before because the patio couldn't be utilized in the rain. We had about a 15-minute wait and were seated at the bar. We all got boozy shakes that were super yummy! I had the mocha under the influence and it was sweet and chocolatey. I also ordered the truffle fries and really enjoyed them. They had a great flavor and the aioli was a perfect paired dip. The interior can feel a little cramped on crowded days so I recommend coming on a nicer weekday so you can enjoy sitting outside. After a day of running errands, we decided to stop into Browndog as the last time we were in the area they weren't open! They weren't terrible busy (but they GOT busy while we were there) and we opted to sit at the bar. It took us a bit to figure out what we wanted but ended up with the fish and chips and the sriracha bourbon burger. Fish was nice- crispy, flaky, not greasy at all. Fries were fresh and hot, I love the seasoning on them. Hubby really like his burger although FYI they have real Funyons on them- he was thrown off thinking it was a Funyon inspired topping but nope they were the real thing. Once we got our food they got very busy at the bar and in the regular seating so I didn't want to pester them for more tarter sauce. We did however, order an ice cream flight and it was SO GOOD. I love flights in general because I always want to taste a bunch of things but ya know my stomach is only so big! Treat yourself to one, you won't be sorry. Came back here recently with some girlfriends. It's still amazing and worth a visit. I was really happy because I wanted a specialty ice cream flavor and at first they thought they were out. But thankfully someone thought to look in the back and they found one last pint. It was the chocolate dipped strawberry, and while it could have had more white chocolate, it was still delicious! Amazing food! I come here often for the ice cream and brunch. The best flavor they've ever had was a seasonal summer one, lemon lavender. I was excited to try their fall flavors this time. The Pumpkin Spiked Latte was good, but I think it needed a bit more spice, because I mostly got the vanilla flavoring from the booze. I also tried the Sticky Bun ice cream and the Browndog Fries Cream. The Sticky Bun was amazing and tasted just like the frosting of a Good cinnamon roll. She was very attentive and knowledgeable about the products on the menu and was also great at giving recommendations on food and beer and ice cream pairings. The food, cocktails and ice cream are great. I ordered the the blue fig grilled cheese. Really interesting, unique flavors of pear, blue cheese and sweet fig jam between slices of crisp chewy ciabatta bread. Tasty but almost a little too sweet and I don't think there was any bacon on it as was specified on the menu. The six cheese mac and cheese was also good and was a part of their happy hour specials that run all day on Sunday. I feel like it could have been a little creamier but not bad. The main attraction though is really the booze and ice cream. I had a beer float with the salty dog ice cream with a salted caramel brown stout which the server recommended. It was really good. I also ordered an ice cream flight with the cherry chip chipotle, monkey at sea, and an ice cream infused with Jack Daniels and German chocolate cake pieces and a Rumchata raisin. The boozy ice creams were a little icier and not as creamy as the other ones. The cherry chip chipotle was good but really was not spicy at all. There was no kick. I had a cherry chipotle cocktail too which was ok, but again don't expect it to be spicy. It literally had no incling of chipotle. The monkey at sea was good with the chocolate and banana but the saltiness was a little strange.The salty dog with salted caramel and brownie pieces was probably my favorite. If you order any of the desserts, they are huge, definitely big enough to split. In a past visit, I ordered the adult s'more, which was a huge portion with whiskey infused ice cream and a bourbon infused marshmallow, and I had it with a s'mores stout which was awesome. It was pretty slow since it was the holiday weekend but I came here before on a Friday night in March and we could barely find a place to sit. This place is great and would definitely recommend. It's like the tipsy dessert gods answered my prayers. A fun spot that maybe can fit 30 people comfortably is equipped with a bar and a few bar height tables. They offer small plates which I have yet to try, but they particular shine in the sweets department (hence 'Dessert Bar' in the name). Seamlessly blending the idea of spiking desserts, they have a large menu filled with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, shakes, and well, desserts. Their Whiskied chocolate bomb hits all the right notes with that soft mocha mouse, smooth irish cream and that toffee over top adds a nice crunch. Their adult s'more is the perfect go-to if you want something really decadent with a nice kick. The best part about the adult s'more is their homemade bourbon infused marshmallow. Having taken home a small pint of their mango lassi, bourbon pecan, and matcha road, they do an amazing job at letting the natural flavors shine through versus having the sweetness of the ice cream be the first thing that hits you. They also offer vegan and alcoholic pints if that's more your style. Overall, it's nice to see something as simple as ice cream feel so new and inventive! I would definitely go back, my friend and I planned to share two apps and desserts, They didn't have a big appetizer selection so we settled for dessert only. We got the Apple cider donut bread pudding with ginger snap ice cream and chocolate lava cake with s'mores campfire ice cream. Definitely will go back. read more

Companion had the Salty Sailor Adult Shake (I think that is what it was called) $13?. 4 scoops of Salty Dog small batch ice cream with rum. Insides of glass coated in chocolate sauce and caramel sauce. She said it might be the best thing she ever ate! I had a mini scoop of salty dog ice cream ($2.75) which is salted caramel ice cream, salted caramel swirl, pecans, home-made brownies. Tasty. Also had a mini scoop of vanilla ice cream with amazing homemade caramel sauce in a waffle bowl (extra $1.25). So why not 5 stars? Companion had a flight of salsas which comes with a handful of chips ($6). Watermelon salsa, poblano salsa, pineapple salsa and guacamole. They all needed acid (lime juice?) and salt. The sobert mimosa flight was to die for! Sweet and strong. Also the cinnamon roll bread pudding was simply out of this world. I great local spot for brunch or dessert. read more

A bar AND ice cream parlor =Barlor! Super cute place in downtown Farmington! I have not had food here yet, only dessert and drinks. It's great to have a place like this to go to after a meal for a great dessert. They also have vegan ice cream options!
