Since 2013, Brown Computer Solutions has been my go-to for Apple products and repair. I was always treated well here, and more importantly, my computer problems were solved. There have been great employees at BCS and not-so-great ones, but I've always found service and pricing to be fair. Since Vermont does not have an Apple store or a Genius Bar, this is as close as we get! I was shocked to see negative reviews here, it really suggests a need for customer service training. Kindness and helpfulness go a long way to retaining customers. Patrick Brown himself is a very helpful guy, courteous, patient, and a straight-talker. I have bought my last 5 computers from him. On an unrelated note, I updated to Sequoia and the Find tool no longer finds anything. Zip, zilch, nada. This is CRAZY. Also I get a Bookmarks Syncing error message every 10 minutes with a long page of code that means nothing to me. Every day now since Sequoia -- 20 times a day -- It's awful. Wish Apple would admit Sequoia is a dog. read more

This was the best computer repair experience I've ever had. My computer broke and they found me a replacement online for %50 off, they transferred all my things onto the new laptop, and even downloaded a free version of Photoshop for me which saved me a lot of time and grumpiness. They were fast, reliable, knowledgeable, and kind- even when I was initially grumpy about my dead computer walking in. They are also queer friendly and have a very sweet poster of queer superheroes that they designed in collaboration with an artist for Keene Pride Week. I am thrilled. We bought a new MacBook Air 3 months ago from Brown Computer where we have purchased many Macs in the past and Patrick has always been great to deal with. Now this place is not so good. Or maybe it is that Mac products and support are no longer so good. When opening the top on the laptop last week the screen went black with a crack appearing on the lower right hand corner. We are very careful with our laptops. We did not cause the screen to break. Nothing was closed between the lid and the screen. The sales clerk insisted that it was our fault and pointed to the crack. He stated that luckily we have AppleCare and we will only be charged $99.00 instead of the regular charge $600-$700. On searching on-line I quickly discovered that thousands of people have had the same problem with cracked screens. They also have say they have not caused the screen to break. It seems the screens just break when the it is opened because the laptop is not made strong enough to protect the screen from breaking. The sales clerk became more belligerent and when I stated that I would not pay to get it fixed that it was not my fault. So the brand new laptop now sits at Brown Computer because I refuse to pay for the screen to be replaced when it is clearly a manufacturing defect. So don't buy a MacBook Air and don't buy anything from Brown Computer unless you want to be treated like an idiot. read more

I was having problems with my Mac system and needed assistance with a software issue. We arranged for a remote repair. Their computer tech Cameron was able to assist me correcting the problem. He also ran a virus scan and cleared some old files- all within a half hours time! A great job. I recommend them highly. read more

Brown's used to be great. The go to place to fix your electronics. Recently I brought in my computer that was having issues. After 3 days they said it was fixed. $185.00. I got it home and it was still behaving the same way. I took it back. They looked at it for a few hours. Couldn't figure out what was wrong and sent me home with the same 'broken computer' and wouldn't refund a penny. They need to go back to their beginnings. Find somewhere else to go. read more

It's Christmas Eve Day. Everything that is actually open today will be closing early for the Holiday. We're up in our Vermont log cabin and want to watch movies. What to do. We gave Brown Computer Solutions a call. Patrick Brown, the owner and Mac Geek Extraordinare, provided us with the DVI to VI adaptor, the Stereo Cable and threw in a free RCA cable. The shop isn't large but it had all that we needed. Assistance was provided with a smile and superlative customer service. With this simple gear in hand, we were able to complete the circuit required to plug my MacBook Pro to the TV screen. Whoo hoo! Good to go. I needed a new battery in 4 year old iPhone, and Apple online suggested a few independent shops, including BCS. The Keene store had the battery and scheduled service the same day. For some reason the phone wouldn't work with the new battery; "we're trying to figure it out with Apple." A BCS technician was on the phone a few more minutes, and to my pleasant surprise convinced Apple that this was a product problem not a customer problem - Apple agreed to replace the phone. By noon the next day BCS had received a replacement phone from Apple, and loaded my apps and info onto it. Thank you several Nashua employees for advocating on my behalf. read more

This is a very late update but I haven't logged into Yelp for a long time. This response is totally ridiculous. You stated twice that my computer was in to get the top case replaced, and that you did the repair. It was brought in to have the keyboard replaced because the MacBook I own was known for key issues. My account of the situation is not 'libelous", you're trying to intimidate me because you're upset by my review. Perhaps if you handled the situation better you wouldn't be in this situation. From the looks of your other reviews I'm clearly not alone, you seem to have an issue communicating and being upfront with your customers. Apple did fix my computer totally free of charge with a very fast turnaround. I got excellent customer service from them and will be dealing with them directly in the future. I had to take my iPhone in for repair. I dropped it off on Monday morning for a 1 - 2 hour repair which turned into a three day repair. So they gave me a loaner phone. I went back in on Wednesday at 3:00 and inquired about the repair status. I was told very indignantly that, "We GAVE you a loaner phone!" And "We'll call you on the loaner phone when the repair is complete." I got home at 9:00 and there was a message received at 5:00 that my phone was completed. As a previous reviewer stated, they are very condescending and arrogant. (Although Eli and Winston were quite pleasant to deal with.) I won't be buying anything there, and today my Mac book has screen issues. I'll be shipping it off to Apple for repair. read more

I had started to experience multiple problems with my new-ish laptop and they were able to help broker conversations with Apple to get almost all the repairs covered by Apple. I really want to support local businesses, but I've given them three tries at the Keene location and not interested in any giving them any more. First was my son's new-ish iPad having problems charging. Without even taking a look at device the tech said that we needed to buy a new iPad. Instead we switched to a charging dock and it's been working since. Second was asking about a battery replacement for a MacBook Air. At that time, I was told that they could fix it as a walk-in as it took about 15 minutes and cost $150, but didn't have any batteries in stock. The tech tested my battery over the counter and confirmed it needed replacing. He said they had already ordered some from Apple and someone would call me when available. I heard nothing for over a week until I got a message that they still had no batteries. There was no other updates. Months later I still needed a battery replacement, but this time the tech told me I need to check-in my laptop, put down a deposit, and they'll confirm the battery needs to be replaced and would then quote a price. I said there would be an old order for that, but no, it must be checked-in with them now, etc etc. After that, they'd order a replacement (2-3 days for delivery), then they'd replace it and release my laptop back to me. Yeah, right. Under what circumstance does giving up your laptop for the better part of a week or more make sense to anyone, especially for a 15 minute fix? The whole deal seemed very suspicious. Who would be mucking around with my laptop during the 2-3 days they'd be waiting for the battery order? In the end I ordered a battery replacement off of Amazon for $50 including screwdrivers and yes, it took less than 15 minutes for me to replace it. Not going back again. read more

After they came to my MIL home to fix her computer it was fine she made the payment to them and then got a call saying they needed to get back into her computer to validate and process the payment the payment has already come out of her account so why does he need to reaccess it and since the payment has been made her computer has crashed and she can't access her email and still he calls her 3 times a day she states to get access to her computer why and what did he do to it read more

This store is extremely pushy. Of course, it is the closest Apple certified partner in town, not actually Apple. It costed me $150 just to clean the computer of liquid damage, and what is worst is that they don't have guarantee, of course not. They said if it ends up I need to buy a new computer, I can use the $150 towards the cost of the new computer. Uh, no thanks, there is zero discount at their store and it's not even an actual Apple store. I had to ask them how they would clean my computer, they did not disclose to me up front which was not professional. when I picked my computer up, the settings changed, they kept saying it wasn't. They could have said we restored to manufacturing setting or set it back to what I was used to. Finally I was upset, because I couldn't log in, I attempted to call apple care, then the guy was like, I can look it up for you...I asked him how he did that, he would not disclose. The only plus is that I got lucky and after cleaning my computer, everything is back to normal. But I would not say this store is a proper substitute for Apple genius bar. read more

I have used Brown Computer Solutions a few times before. Each time, I have been condescended to. My family and I have spent a lot of money on various things: a MacBook, service, warranties, etc. I hate to leave bad reviews, and I've never met or had issues with the owner. That being said, I would never shop here again because of the incredible lack of respect more than one of the employees have shown me. Unfortunately, this company cannot be trusted. They charged me over $300 for an AppleCare deductible. After a little over a week they returned my MacBook in "perfect" condition. As soon as we got it home I realized that the bottom of the laptop was not correctly put on leaving it open on one side. We brought it back and they fixed that. Then, after taking it home again and charging it for a few hours, I went to use it realized it hadn't charged at all. Come to find out, they had not reinstalled the battery. They claim to run a diagnostic test on the hardware but they very clearly skipped this step on mine. Very disappointed. read more

My iPhone battery had been dying for a while, but when we arrived in Vermont on a long road trip, it even refused to charge, so I was a bit desperate to find someone to fix it. Brown Computer Solutions was only 25 minutes away from where we were staying, and they were really great, checking the price, and recommending because of that, that it would probably be best to replace my phone, but the nearest dealer for my cell carrier being an hour away, I opted to have them replace the battery. They had the battery in stock, even though my phone was pretty old, and they had it done the same day. They were friendly, quick to greet me on arrival, and took the time it needed to get everything back in working order. Highly recommended! read more

I brought my phone in on Friday, July 10th to get fixed and was quoted as being ready the following Monday, When I called on the Monday and they told me it was going to take 5 to 10 business days because they had to send it in to apple. So I had to drive 45 minutes back to get a loaner phone. When I called back on the 10th business day. They told me the phone still was not ready. So I waited again to call and still nothing. At this point it would have been easier to get a new phone or to have just given me the loaner phone. This is getting ridiculous and won't be getting my business again. I ordered a part for an as yet undiagnosed issue--which seemed to be a sound/stereo malfunction replacement through Brown. Since Brown or any other technician hadn't yet looked at my (laptop) device I asked on the phone whether the part would be restockable if the guesstimate didn't end up being the issue when I brought the laptop in for the piece replacement. I was told, unequivocally, YES. Meanwhile, my local tech (Brown is 1.15 mins from me) came back from holiday and differently diagnosed the issue and rectified it. Brown refused to re-stock the part and when I asked for the owner and explained what had occurred he was beyond rude and actually called me an idiot. Really. To a customer, on the phone. Steer clear of such an unethical and insulting place (maybe one reason they don't enjoy good reviews). Take your business to Computer Geeks in West Dover. Tim is one of the smartest tech guys I've known, a great diagnostician with really fair prices and a really nice fellow to boot. This is the 3 rd computer I have bought here. I have been very happy with both the sales service and repair up until now. I bought my daughter a Mac book pro with full apple care. I explained I wanted full transfer of her hard drive over to new computer but she was away at school. I bought a stick to transfer the data onto. When I came back to the exact same sales rep- he didn't remember me which is fine- he told me they charged $100 to transfer the data. I reminded him that I had recently purchased a MacBook Pro with a larger memory at his recommendation with the full apple care plan so that I would not have to pay the hundred dollars for the transfer. He then told me he would not transfer the hard disk onto a stick as it took too much work. He explained to me how my daughter could do it on iCloud. This was not the level of service I have had in the past nor is it the service I expected from a well-known local Apple store that I would like to continue to support. read more

I've had several dealings with them and have walked away each time amazed at how condescending they are. The owner is the worst of a bad lot. I went in the store in Keene, NH to ask for assistance with extending my WiFi signal, the girl said the owner would call me, which he did not. Then I called and spoke to him, and he would call me once he received the needed equipment, he did not again. Then I called for the last time and he said to come in, so I did, his employees stated he would be right back, I waited 15 minutes and he never returned. Keene is great city with a great downtown and main street. There are several excellent businesses who successfully compete with big box stores and online retailers with competitive prices and outstanding customer service. Unfortunately, Brown Computers is not one of them. They charge top dollar for all of their merchandise (yes Apple has strict pricing but they don't only carry Apple products) and if you have a problem with a repair or need to return something because they misinformed you about its specifications or ability to do what they told you it would, their mediocre customer service when wanting to sell you something turns downright belligerent about taking a return or fixing an issue they caused. In an era when brick and mortar businesses struggle to bring people in the door it is businesses like this one that threaten to paint all small shops with the same unfriendly, dishonest, only out for the quick dollar brush. While big box stores and online retailers can make doing face to face business difficult it is establishments like Brown Computers that damage our thriving downtowns. Save yourself the inevitable trouble, shop elsewhere and support good business practices that in turn are good for us all. read more

This is regarding repair of an apple computer at the Brattleboro store. I just called and asked if they could replace a battery on my Macbook Pro. I was told I needed to bring it in to see if they had the battery. I said, I can give you the exact information about the computer so you can see if you have the battery or can order it, which I did. He said they probably have a battery but I'd need to bring in the computer. I asked if he could check if they have a battery so I wouldn't have to make an unnecessary journey. He didn't seem to understand this concept. So I changed the subject and asked how much would the battery cost approximately. He said I'd have to bring in the computer for them to figure that out. Huh? Then he turned to his colleague and asked how much the battery would be (giving the exact information on the computer model that I'd given him). The colleague said, "About $200 dollars"! Since this is more than what they charge at an actual a Apple dealer, which is expensive enough, I just said "Thank you" and "good bye'. Even if these guys are repair geniuses (and there is no evidence for that), their manner of handling information suggests either that they don't really care or that they are clueless. How hard is it, really, to look up whether you have a battery for an Apple computer when you are given the exact information (style, model number, year) and you purport to be an Apple repair store?! I was clear and polite. And they were not rude. But it is impossible to trust a company that operates with such poor communication and with such clueless customer service. Be very careful if this is your only option. read more

I went to Browns computer ( Keene) to have my I phone 6 repaired as the screen was not working ( intermittently), same problem last August, which they fixed ( Apple replaced the phone) They told me I needed to bring it back home and restore it, although in August they restored it. I had problems doing that , as my laptop had an old operating system and I did not understand why it would not work.. I went back to Browns,, and from that point on , 2 sales told me I needed to go home, and call Apple,, They thought I was going to download the Operating system in the store, which I was not, so the told me to go home?? by the way no one was in the store. I have never been treated this poorly in a retail establishment. I next went to Pi computer in Amherst,, they took my phone in did everything that needed to be done, in a professional , cheerful manner. read more

I purchased a desktop mac in 2012 and have always been satisfied with their service. Loved the place and the people, in fact. When my keyboard stop working correctly recently I took it up for inspection there (i live in a neighboring state )because I had a warrantee on the hardware. )To my surprise all the original people who had worked there were gone. The gentleman who examined my keyboard and tested it on my computer said it appeared that the batteries were weak.I had checked the batteries awhile back and they seemed ok. But anyway,they tested weak and I asked if he could test keyboard with fresh batteries. I was told that unless I purchased a battery rechargable device with batteries for $30 plus and used them to test the keyboard OR go out and purchase a fresh set, they could not test the keyboard. You would think they could at least use the store battery to test it. part of the trouble shooting. He was "pretty certain" that the weak battery was causing some of the keys not to work. I have since tried new batteries and it still doesn't work. So i'll have to return--with my new fresh batteries and have it looked at again. I'm the last kind a person to complain and want to give everybody the benefit of the doubt but this is not sitting well right now. Could have been averted by the simple gesture of trying out the store's battery to test the keyboard. No big deal,right? I am baffled and disappointed. read more

I'd like to give several negative stars. I went to BCS complaining that my iPad had become very buggy and that I had not been able to get it to talk to my desktop computer for quite some time--so little on it was backed up. I was told no problem, they could dump everything that was on it onto one of their computers, they would do a "restoration" process to TRY to eliminate the bugginess, and then reload everything back onto my iPad. It all sounded easy to me--for computer geeks. But, I was under no illusion that the bugginess would be cleared up--which it was not. "Backup" was the first word on the work order. It was on the work order twice. It was what I had been told I would have to pay extra for--which I was happy to do. What I got back was an iPad missing 2 - 3 years worth of research in the form of a vast PDF library, and missing all of my personal photos and playlists, as well. I was subsequently told by Mr. Brown that he knew that the backup process via iTunes wasn't foolproof and that, if they lost data, it would not be on their computer; they would not be able to find it and restore it to my iPad. I was subsequently given this link by a very nice woman at Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204136 which clearly explains that BCS could not in any way accomplish a complete backup of my iPad via iTunes--the service which they sold to me. iPads and the iTunes syncing system have been out there for 5 years. Yet, everyone at BCS apparently knew little about it when I went to them with my iPad this summer (2015). In any case, I justifiably got angry for not being told what Mr. Brown clearly knew, up front, and which both Amanda and Florin had an opportunity to tell me, before I handed my iPad over to them. I expressed that anger in an email conversation with Mr. Brown, who could only insist over and over that they had done nothing wrong. To this day, after letters back and forth between lawyers, I have not gotten so much as an apology from anyone at BCS. All I have gotten for this negligence and incompetence was Mr. Mekdeci SCREAMING his head off at me one morning (in front of another customer) as I was trying to collect a refund for their giant data disappearance "service." Mr. Mekdeci screamed that the whole thing was all my fault for never having backed up my iPad (the service I had paid them for). He falsely accused me of making threats against the company. And then he called the police and took out a no trespass order against me! read more

When the trackpad on my Macbook Pro lost its mind and started randomly highlighting, moving and deleting text I thought I was in for a few days of leaving it at the shop, but I dropped it off at Brown as soon as they opened, and they had it fixed by 11am. This was the first time I have had to take an Apple product in for service, and I was expecting the usual multi-day run around I've gotten with other machines at Big Box stores -- you know the old: "Well, we probably won't even be able to look at it until next Thursday" routine -- so I was thrilled with the speedy service and the positive, helpful demeanor of the staff.
