I'd say it's more of a lounge than restaurant. Got a night life feel. Lighting was dark and all of…read morethe seating appeared to be covered in red velour. Food was alright. It was a set menu for our group. There was fresh escargot, chicken with salad and apple tart for dessert. I'd never had escargot; it was chewier than I expected, but the pesto sauce was fabulous. Chicken was tender, but not extraordinary. Apple tart was just as I've had at French restaurants in Canada. Tasty! Service was good, not a lot of English speaking people tho. Tables were cleared quickly and the water was kept full. Not in a great part of town, but it was right beside our hotel, so it was convenient.

Ok this place is more like a 2.5. To be honest, for the quality of food that we had, it wasn't that…read moreawful. Maybe we expected more for Paris standard, or maybe it was just the restaurant's standard for tourists. Whatever it is, I am not satisfied, esp after reading the amazing reviews this place gets on TripAdvisor. Like the other reviewer mentioned, I am pretty sure this restaurant microwaves the food for customers. We ordered from the set menu (26.5 euro), and my husband added a duck foie gras for an additional 6 euro. The final bill game to about 60 euro. For the entire time that we were there, we kept hearing a buzzing sound. It turns out that, in the background, behind the red curtain , it's not a chef, but a microwave working the magic. There were 3 other tables dining with us, and we kept hearing the microwave buzzing in the background. When the food finally came out, esp the dessert that my husband ordered, some pear pie, it was clearly microwaved where it's hot in the outside but cool-ish in the inside... NOT from the oven. My dark chocolate mousse, while not "bad", it tasted powder-y and waaaay too sweet. Even my husband who's always clueless in the kitchen, heard the buzzing and asked if that was from the microwave... I mean, if this place was on the cheaper end, I'd think this is a nice home made meal; however, because it's priced at a higher range, I expected more. I would compare it to the frozen meal selections that you get from Trader Joe's and nothing super impressive. I'm sad my last meal on my Paris vacation was not as good as I had hoped. I wish I could give it a higher review, but I simply cannot. Yelpers be warned.

How this place doesn't have at least 4.5 stars beats me. The server (I believe his name was…read moreStephan) was excellent. He kept us up on bread, gave excellent wine recommendations, and was plenty patient with our limited French. The food was excellent, true French cuisine that took me out of my American comfort zone and blew my mind. The dining area is quaint and small. If you have a group of more than four it might be tight. It feels like you're eating in their living room! If you're staying in the 2nd arrondissement, or even just passing through, this place should be on the top of your list for at least one dinner!

At first, we were pleasantly surprised as L'angolo seemed to be a bit more spacious and even had live music. However, we soon found out that one particular member of staff was very rude with a bad attitude and just generally unhelpful. After a long wait for our food, we weren't given any cutlery when the food arrived. The musician even noticed this, stopped playing his piano and got up to ask that silly waitress to give us cutlery! The food was average at best in my opinion. I had the pasta pomodoro and found it rather salty. At the end of our meal, we asked two members of staff for the bill and it seemed like they didn't want their money so we went up to the front to pay instead. After all that drama, I'm not ashamed to say that we didn't leave the staff a tip as they clearly didn't deserve one.

The pizza was soft on the bottom and barely cooked through. The calzone was even worse, a big soft doughy mess. When the lady who guaranteed us how perfect this place was got my comment that I didn't like it, she rudely said "everyone has different tastes, you should have asked that your pizzas were cooked well done". Avoid this rip off. Definitely not worth the time or money in a neighborhood full of better options.
