The pizza was excellent! We ordered it to go, and while waiting we enjoyed the atmosphere. Service was quick and the prices were great!

I came here twice with a friend, most recently in September 2020, right before the second lockdown. Both times we arrived around 8:30 PM on a weeknight, and the restaurant was reasonably busy. The restaurant is located in the Westfield mall, and easily accessible from the La Défense metro station, where bus, tram, and RER links are all conveniently available too. Since the restaurant is so close to so many office buildings, I was not surprised by how busy it was even during the week. The concept of the restaurant is that you get a menu and a card, decide what station you want to go to (pasta, salad, pizza...), order with your card, get a buzzer, and then collect your order when the buzzer goes off. You pay as you leave by handing over the card that you ordered with. If the restaurant is busy, I'd recommend getting yourself a table right when you arrive and then having one person go to the station(s) to order while the other looks after the table. Both times, I got the scampi piccante, which was very tasty and comes in a generous portion. If you like Italian food, the pasta is really good, hearty comfort food. My friend also loved the pasta, but the 2nd time we went, she got a salad, which seemed pretty substantial as well. For just the food, I would give the restaurant 4 stars because it really is delicious, but the ambiance and the service at this location is not really great. The wait time for the order to be prepared, especially for pasta, was really long; the restaurant was busy both times we went, but not that busy. I would guess they get a good number of delivery or takeout orders, which might explain the delay. On one of our visits, my friend wound up going back to the station to chase down our order, as our buzzer still hadn't gone off after 45 minutes. If you're not in a rush and have good company, it's not a big deal since you can spend that time chatting, but I wouldn't come here for lunch on a busy workday. The restaurant is also very loud, and the staff don't really make an effort to make themselves heard over the noise, so ordering is a little bit of a pain. Overall, a convenient location to get reliably tasty Italian food, although do not come here if you are pressed for time. read more

Don't let the 1 star rating fool you, the food in this place is great, the chefs are really good at their art, however the concept of this place is horrible. You walk in and have no direction everyone is rushing around there no order in the process. For starters they give you a card with QR code which you need to place in a card reader at one of the 4 stations, from left to right: Station-1 bar and desserts, station-2 pastas, station-3 Pizzas and appetizers, station-4 I have no clue no one could tell Me what they offered there. Stand in line order your food , drinks and desserts from the stations get a pager and wait, the workers are extremely frustrated from working so hard, and then you'll see a couple just lingering not doing anything to help their coworkers. Again it's quite the experience to go here and it's a bit pricey but again the food here deserves 6 stars, the bad service makes it a 1 for me. read more

This place is fabulous! I'm visiting Paris for a second time and I've now eaten here 4x - that's how good it is! There are 3-4 stations: Pasta & Risotto, Lasagna & Pizza, Salads & Antipasti and the Desert & Drinks bar. When you come in the host will hand you a card. When you go to any station to order, the chef will charge your card with what you've ordered. At the very end of the meal, you hand your card to the cashier and they charge you for whatever the balance of the card is. All you do is go to whichever station, order, watch your food get prepared in front of you and then enjoy! I've eaten in and ordered delivery. I will say that the delivery tastes just as good, but the options for dishes and for customization of dishes are very limited. The ambiance is very chill, with ambient lighting, modern wooden furniture and greenery (that I think is real). It's typical European style seating - if you come in a party of two you can either sit in a two person table or share a larger table with others. I'll definitely be back! read more

It is not one of those typical order-at-the-counter restaurants. Here at Vapiano, you place your order directly with the chef who prepares your food right in front of you. This is how it works: When you arrive you'll pick up a card (just like a credit card) from the cashier for your entire party if you are paying in one check. (For separate checks get one card per person.) The card will keep track of your orders and it's a very easy and efficient way to settle your bill with the cashier. There are various stations - salad, pizza, pasta, etc. - Go directly to the pasta stations as they are the best! SHRIMP SCAMPI: Fresh raw shrimps were sautéed in a pan with butter, onion, garlic among other goodies right in front of me and the rich aroma was stimulating. After a few minutes the chef flipped the shrimps over and I could see that they were nicely browned on one side. He then sprinkled them with fresh spices that he picked from the potted plants on the counter, and spooned some tomato sauce and seasonings into the pan. Meantime, the fresh pasta was being cooked in a smart boiler that automatically raised the pasta from the water when it's time so it would always be perfectly al dente. The pasta was then quickly tossed in the sauce, served on a dish, and topped with freshly grated cheese. BOLOGNESE: Some marinated ground beef was sautéed with butter, onion, garlic, etc. and again, a rich aroma filled the air and teased my palate. I watched the chef spooned another type of tomato sauce into this pan (I'll guess it's a meat sauce), let it boil and thicken, then tossed in the pasta to make another yummy dish right in front of my hungry eyes. Both dishes were delicious, although we felt that they were very heavy compared to the typical Italian fares. A very hearty meal for a cold winter day in Paris for sure! Our chef was very nice and friendly and he was very patient with me with my mediocre and broken French (we were in a non-touristy area outside of Central Paris where English is often not spoken.) The concept was fresh; the entire dining experience was enjoyable. The only improvement that I would recommend is that they open up more stations especially during lunch hour. The wait was long, with even just two customers ahead of me because everything was made from scratch. But it was definitely worth the wait. read more

Loved the concept of this restaurant. You get once "credit card" per person that you charge whatever you purchase at different stations. So it is a bar nation were you can get drinks or a bottle of wine. And there is a pizza, salad and pasta station. Everything is made to order and delicious. I have tried the spicy pizza and the shrimp risotto. Both dishes were delicious and super fresh. They have pot with fresh herbs that they use to garnish the dishes. Overall very nice, definitely going back. there are only two restaurants like this. The other one is in Amsterdam that I may visit during my next trip there. read more

We were back in the La Defense area around 11pm -- looking for a place to eat on a Saturday night! There were only a couple places still open in the area, and this happened to be one of the few restaurants that were still open. Self-serve lines where you order antipasta, pasta, pizza, dessert, etc. My husband ordered funghi risotto, pretty delicious & made to order right there & then. He enjoyed it. I ordered funghi & proscuitto pizza, large in size but they completely forgot my order. After waiting over 15-20 min, and still not receiving my pizza, I got up to ask the cooks behind the counter. Apparently they forgot to make it!!! Arghh! Annoyed! One the supervisors came by and offered me 2 complimentary glasses of prosecco to make up for this mistake! While the food is relatively good here, the service and mistake made warrants a 3-star experience. I think the pizza chefs in the back too way too long and just didn't have any attention to detail when it comes to orders. What in the world?! I'm starting to be less and less fan of this place. The idea was original at first but when it is crowded, you'd better go somewhere else. I have tried almost everything there; pasta, pizza, salads, etc. The pasta dishes are ok but I got disappointed when they took from the menu polo picante. Salads are just a waste of money... Pizza are also ok but that depends on whether or not it's busy or not. You might get a half burned or not depending on that... Bottom line, the quality degrades with their fame. We got trapped here, long lines both to order and check out. Food decent but one of our orders was wrong and they insisted correct. I think a could see a lack of tomato and snap peas. This place is not that bad. It features three or four different stations that offer different Italian inspired dishes. You are handed a card upon entry that allows you to register your purchases at the different stations, then pay as you leave. Here are a few key points... 1. It is open late, which is great, but some of the stations (particularly the pizza one), quit serving earlier. 2. The food is average tasting fare. It is sufficiently filling, and while it is no bargain, it is not expensive either. 3. I encountered a mixed bag of service quality, but will say that the nicer employees were exceptional. 4. The pasta dishes are prepared while you wait. This is not bad, but it is one of the more expensive places that you will have to stand in a line to get your food. 5. The only reason i am giving this place a two star is because it tasted decent. Surprisingly good option if you are staying in the La Defense area. The concept is great. You order your own meals and drinks, and pay at the end. No waitstaff. Vapiano (which until I found another one in Amsterdam) is a franchise/cafeteria style restaurant. As a very world-traveler I can be very judgmental when it comes to rating food. My wife and I visited the location in the La Defense area, and it blew my mind. Lets start with how to order food since I was a tourist and I can see where it can be difficult to order food. When you enter a Vapiano the host will provide you with a card for each member of your party, after finding your own seating you walk up to their different sections (Pizza, Pasta, Anti-Pasta) to order food. They have menu's in different languages that you can look at during your time in the line. Once you get to the actual order system you scan your card on the silver register and place your order, most orders are filled on the spot except for pizza. For pizza they will give you a buzzer to notify you when your pizza is done, they also have a bar where you can order your alcoholic drinks. I ordered (forgot the actual name for this pizza) a salami-onion-peppers pizza and it was the most amazing pizza I have ever had (which includes over 10 trips to Rome, Italy). My wife and I highly recommend this location for locals or tourist, prices are decent and the food is amazing! read more

We've been to vapiano in Australia many times ... so we thought it would as just as good experience in Paris .... unfortunately it is not ...if we wanted pasta it would have taken over 30 minutes standing in a line waiting for our food to be cooked in front of us .. fortunately we ordered pizza , where the process is much friendlier- you order get a buzzer and go back to your table and wait ... I did stand in line to try to Eder pasta but gave up when our pizza was ready after 20 minutes ..., by the time we had finished our pizza the people who were in front of me were just getting their pasta ... and on a sad note the pizza was undercooked ... read more

Food is fresh and sooooo delicious! Definitely recommend this place for homemade Italian food. The reason I give this place 2 stars is for horrible service. People that work there are rude and seem to hate their jobs. We came in 10 minutes after it just opened one morning and the girls and guys seem to have an attitude if you asked them questions about the food. Then they would speak in French about you and laugh once you walked away. They also made my mom's coffee incorrectly and rolled their eyes at her when she asked them to make it differently since they didn't understand what she asked for the first time.
