To go location review: Best fish and chips outside of London. Yep I said it! This spot has been on my list but I underestimated how good it would be. I ordered the fish tacos and a side of coleslaw. The fish was super fresh and crispy. Topped with slaw and a mango pico. The blue corn tortilla was a nice touch. So much tastier than corn or flour! My one down side was the slaw on the taco was a little wet, so if you didn't eat fast enough it made for a soggy tortilla. The staff was nice, but 0 urgency in making our order. We waited close to 30 minutes for 2 tacos. Mind you there was only one other person there at the time we arrived. We have been getting takeout from Brothers for a couple years now, and it never disappoints. Always fresh, quality ingredients, perfectly prepared and elevated just enough so the food is subtly sophisticated. These are the best fish tacos and fish n chips in the area, nothing else comes close. Every bite is heaven! Tonight we decided to dine in for a change and the locally produced Belgian-style beer was delicious and a perfect accompaniment for the food. The Alvarinho and kombucha were also surprisingly great. We had the tres leches cake for dessert. It was not traditional but like the rest of the offerings, it was perfectly prepared and elevated in the best way. Service was great, and ambience was mellow and relaxing. This place is easy to miss in its very nondescript location next to Mavis. Wow this restaurant didn't miss on a single element! I thought it was a nice touch when they added flowers on everything - made for a nice presentation. The crab tostones had some really fresh crab meat. It went well with the fried plantains and surprisingly had a great depth of flavor. The fish and chips were life changing. I didn't know it could be cooked so well like this. The fish was flaky and light, almost buttery. The breading was thin and crispy. You can pick cod or bass, and I chose cod. The tartar sauce and coleslaw were also both excellent! They gave us a free orange creme brulee on the house and it had just the right amount of citrusy orange flavor! Very cool dish, and was served in an orange peel with toasted brown sugar beneath. The ambiance was a little odd because they were playing some slightly loud remixed pop music and had a light strip under the bar which was odd because the restaurant is quite upscale. they have raised the prices for takeout fish and chips to an extraordinarily high level for the volume or should I say lack of volume that they deliver. I ordered the large fish and I was only given one tiny container of tartar, sauce. I do not eat a large volume of food, the large fish was pretty small, even for me. This will most likely be the last time I will go back. I grew up eating fish on the Florida Gulf Coast, I know good fish. This was less than ordinary, pretty bland! The sit down restaurant needs to repair their front door. I remember that door being broken for over a year. The restaurant side has a handful of options only two kinds of fried fish and really good food. And expensive. It's been two hours since we ate here, and we're still shaking our heads saying, "man, what WAS that?!?" It was that good! This spot is celebrating 14 years in business for a reason. Awe-inspiring food is made in this little restaurant nestled beside a nail salon and parking lot. Everything tastes nothing like you've had before. From the lobster in a squid-ink sponge cake, to the coleslaw on the fish tacos, to the lightness of the fried fish, to the pillowy tres leches - it's just nonstop hits. And it's not one of those pretentious places where things look artsy and prices are high and there's no flavor. No! The food here is so inventive and delicious and fresh. Ate here the other night. Unremarkable fish and chips for $32. Two ok but greasy pieces of cod, decent fries. Lobster bisque came out watery, lukewarm and wishy washy flavor. $28 for a bowl of bisque that was by far the worst "bisque" Ive ever had. Two slices of toasted sourbread came out halfway through dinner. When the bill came, we saw that they automatically give themselves an 18% "service charge" on all parties, even parties of 2. It's more like 20% as Im pretty sure they put the 18% on the tax as well. Small note on the bottom of the menu so forget it if you want to determine the tip yourself. I just made an order through Ubereats. The food was absolutely horrible. First, I ordered the "All Hands on Deck". There were no chicken wings in the box (it was supposed to come with 4). My cod had a taste of ammonia which signifies that it's not fresh. Additionally, both my and my fiancée's shrimp were not fresh. I literally wound up throwing the food away. Supposedly, it's written somewhere on the menu, but good luck finding it. They don't mention it upfront, and let's be real--if they did, it might make you think twice about staying. And yes, this applies even if you're paying in cash. That kind of greed feels like a slap in the face after enjoying a good meal which is priced 10% above market to begin with. This required us to take a 30 minute drive north but we are not adverse to going out of our comfort zone to seek out good food We wound up driving past their location as it's in a strip center with a very narrow entryway that's hard to see at night After navigating our way back we parked and made our way down the steep parking lot incline to the entrance & were promptly greeted & seated at their small bar B F&C is charming & inconspicuous but has a warm & friendly vibe After checking out their menu we decided on ordering their mixed ceviche & signature fish n chips as well as a reasonably priced bottle of Albariño The quality, taste, & presentation of everything was surprisingly good & exceeded our expectations You can sense that the owners are paying attention to details that are forgotten about in most other establishments Moreover by sitting at the bar we discovered that they have a great regard for mixology We tried their strawberry pisco sour which was one of the best renditions of my favorite (hard to find) cocktail I've had anywhere! Wowsa what a meal!!! Friends had posted beautiful pics of their meals from their tasting menu. It's cute: half the restaurant is a traditional dining room and the other is take out fish and chips. You can have a delicious meal a la carte or the tasting menu. I could not convince my husband to do the 15 course chef's tasting menu. But we did do the tasting menu with wine. Every dish was light, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. We enjoyed the wine pairings which were different (portuguese and spanish wines rounded out some American and South African wines). I am excited to come back to try more of their traditional menu and their namesake (fish and chips). Well worth a visit. read more
