Horrible customer service. I asked three times if the suit would have actual surgeon's cuffs after alterations and everyone there including two salespeople and the tailor said they would. They did not. Also, literally less than one minute after I put on a suit in the changing room and came out the salesperson asked if I was going to buy it, otherwise the tailor whom he'd brought to measure the suit would leave. read more

Absolutely atrocious service at this business. I brought in a 1818 suit (worth approximately $1500) handed down from a relative for alterations to fit my body. From the beginning, I was met with rudeness and hostility from the employees. I had called ahead about getting alterations, and was invited to come by as a walk-in. When I arrived, the salesperson at the counter waved me back to the fitting room area and said to speak to the tailor. It took several minutes before anyone actually bothered to tell the tailor, who was deep in the back rooms, that there was a customer for him, and when he emerged he was unhelpful and disinterested in my fitting. He asked me to identify which specific seams I wanted altered, even though the fit was clearly off to an untrained eye. My trousers could not be buttoned (or even zipped all the way up) and he seemed confused why I wanted them let out. During checkout, I was hassled for why I did not have a Brooks Brothers account already with an implication that I did not legitimately own the suit. Upon receipt of the altered suit after a waiting period of several weeks, the workmanship was awful. The bunching behind the collar which I identified to the tailor was not addressed at all, and I could tell the back vent had not even been touched. The side vents which had been adjusted have a hole because the stitching was not fully closed up. For an American institution and a luxury brand, this is ridiculously shoddy tailoring- the local dry cleaners would have done a better job and I now need to go to them to undo the damage they did to my suit. Avoid at all costs, especially if you don't seem wealthy. read more

Please be advised that Brooks has temporarily relocated across CT Ave NW to The Bender Building, 1120 CT Ave NW. I was unable to exchange the shirt as planned because 1201 CT Ave was closed on 5/3/2025. I had to ask around about the temporary location because the Brooks website had listed both addresses on CT Ave. My lower left leg was close to amputation some years ago. The pain has remained, with some days better than others. Today, 5/4/2025, was not a good day. The young lady who helped me at the temporary location, Bryanna, was excellent. She apologized for the inconvenience. I was irate because the pain was quite palpable (I apologized for being so irate). She also efficiently processed the exchange and confirmed my address to have the shirt delivered to my address. Bryanna is the epitome of a stellar salesperson. Bryanna made a painful experience (not the fault of the store) as pleasant an experience as possible. Thank you! read more

I stopped in at the store on Connecticut Avenue, in Washington, DC recently to return a pair of trousers which I had ordered online and were the wrong size. I had previously called to see if they had a smaller size in inventory, and Annie, the Assistant Manager assisted me with that. When I arrived, Annie greeted me and provided excellent customer service. Additionally, I mentioned that I had a similar suit which I felt was the wrong size, and she mentioned that their tailor would be able to assist. I grew up in the country, dressing for dirty work. Later, I adopted the student's uniform of jeans and tee shirts, and then wore Air Force blues. Upon leaving the military, I found work in Washington, and quickly learned that younger me had been lucky, not having to decide what to wear every day. Professional work came with a dress code that required thought and planning, and at 22 years old, I was ill-prepared to select a wardrobe. As they have done for men through the generations, Brooks Brothers' staff taught me to dress like a grownup. Last week, while visiting Washington to attend a pair of weddings, I found myself in need of neckties, so I popped into the Connecticut Avenue Brooks Brothers. I was greeted genially by Sales Associate Linda DeBerry, who listened attentively as I asked for two striped silk ties; extra-long (62" vs. the standard 58"); one deep green, red or gold to match a moss green sport coat; and one green and blue, to wear with a navy blazer. The service Ms. DeBerry provided was predictably superb, and I enjoyed the twenty minutes or so we spent, shopping through several drawers full of lovely fabrics as she offered advice that included a marvelous, old-fashioned pursed-lips-in-lieu-of-direct-criticism of my first choices. [n.b. I have read reviews here suggesting that Brooks Brothers staff are snobbish. I suspect that such comments say more about the writers than about their subjects. Those who know what they want, or who are willing to ask for help, need not fear the big, bad Brooks Brothers sales associates.] I found what I needed. The photos I've included here only show colors, which may bore the reader, but be assured that my choices were high-quality, expensive (though I did catch a great sale), and, importantly, classic. All of which is to say that I'll be wearing the ties twenty years from now, and, amortizing the cost of the items over their expected life, they're a bargain... another lesson I learned at Brooks Brothers, many years ago. read more

Sales associate Pari saved the day! We travelled several hours to DC for a black tie event, checked into hotel and then found that one of us forgot his shirt! We got to BB within a half hour of closing, Pari helped us to quickly find a pleated shirt in the right size (she measured), and i suggested that my friend also try on a dinner jacket, since his has seen better days. He was reluctant, assuming there wasn't time for alterations, but Pari assured us that she could make it happen. Store manager Stan also jumped in to help and, long-story short, we left at closing time with an entirely new (and perfectly fitting) tux - jacket, pants, shirt, and cufflinks! Not to mention that we were treated like royalty, given comfortable chairs and seltzer while waiting for the quick alterations. We've never seen anything like it and can't recommend this BB location highly enough. Kudos to Pari, Stan, and the tailor. This was a case study in customer service that goes way above and beyond. read more

I shop at Brooks Brothers a couple of times per year, mainly for gifts. I needed a few shirts for myself and decided to stop by the store today. Only one other customer in the store, 4 salespeople present, and yet I had trouble finding anyone to help me. Finally a saleswoman reluctantly helped me find a shirt which was a style too slim for me (Milano), but she insisted I try it. I did, it was flattering, but skin tight and after 1 washing it would be too small. The saleswoman proudly announced "it's perfect", but it wasn't. I asked to see another style of shirt (Regent) and she pointed to the area of the store where they are located and promptly walked off to help another customer who had just arrived. Rude beyond belief. So I waited, and waited, and she never returned. Finally I saw a saleswoman (Rada) who not only helped me, but told me I should have been shown the Regent shirt to start with and that the Milano is too slim for me. I ended up buying 2 shirts, but left with the feeling that has been echoed by a number of reviewers on Yelp ... they just don't care at Brooks Brothers. They just don't care. Thank you Rada for your knowledge of the store and of Brooks Brothers products ... you shine brighter than your colleague who was, to say the least, disappointing. read more

I had a few minutes on my hands and there I was outside BB on Connecticut Avenue, the place where the elite buy their suits. What a throw back. Here's a store that still emphasizes service. The clothes were beautifully displayed. 4-5 sales people asked if they could help. One fellow in particular was not only helpful but engaged in conversation. Everyone was friendly. Sales items were 50% off. But there's the problem. I love good suits. I can't get enough ties. I search for great cufflinks. But even at 50% off, Brooks Brothers is out of my price range. Bottom line: I am a fan of looking around Brooks Brothers. But I haven't actually bought anything there since 1999. read more

Great location in the Farragut/Dupont location, beautifully modeled store, and phenomenal service. I came in looking for a suit and left with two that I am very happy with. I was immediately greeted several times when I entered. Aps, the sales associate was beyond friendly and made an immediate connection. He quickly began assisting me, and it was almost as if he had read my mind on what I was looking for. The suits were excellent quality and while I entered expecting to only purchase one and maybe another in the near future, I was told of a sale that saved me nearly $600. Not only did I appreciate the excellent service, recommendations, and saving money, but I also loved the fact that I was able to pick up 2 high quality suits with minimal time and effort. I just don't get it. The clothing is in the upper-middle range in quality and the prices match that. The customer service is unbelievably bad. I've stood in the men's suits section for an extended period of time with not a single sales clerk even willing to give me a "hello" or "I'm helping another customer but will be with you next." If you are buying a shirt or a pair of socks and don't need any help it is fine. For a men's suit, I guess you need to make an appointment or something. read more

I find places like Brooks Brothers hit or miss because it can be a bit uppity and turn you off. I will say that we've come in here a good few times over the last 3-4 years and have always had a good experience. The staff is helpful and friendly and I don't find it to be particularly stuffy. It doesn't always have a great selection but we've generally lucked out. We visited recently to return some Christmas gifts and ended up leaving with some fun bow ties. The sales person helping us was able to find my sister's info to do the exchange and kept the process stress-free. We'll likely be back given its convenient location and welcoming staff! read more

The customer service is pretty bad. I had the same experience most others had it seems. I waited around for someone to help, but no one came or acknowledged me. Then I flagged someone down for some measurements and product help which was a bit lacking. I really could have used more help with putting everything together and making sure the fit was good, but instead I did most of it on my own. I guess since it's a higher end brand, I expected more assistance and attention but the begining made me feel more like I was shopping the t-shirt section of a Wal-Mart. At the end, after I had figured out my sizes and tried on some clothes from the rack, someone did come to help me and he was very attentive and helpful. I didn't catch his name but the receipt says John. He was a younger looking well dressed blonde guy. He was very knowledgeable and gave me lots of information about the clothing I was looking at. He certainly went out if his way to make sure I got everything I needed. Brooks Brothers should really look into cloning this guy because he did a really great job. I only wish he was around a bit earlier for the sizing part of my visit, but that's no fault of his. For the downtown D.C. store of a 200 year old American brand, I expected a little bit more. Luckily John was there to save the day in the end, but he really shouldn't have to. read more

As much shit as I get from all my hipster buddies for showing up at Rock n' Roll Hotel or Wonderland Ballroom to hang out with them looking like I parked my yacht in Gtown and somehow got lost in Columbia Heights or H Street in my pastel Brooks Brothers polo's and equally outrageous colored shorts with little embroidery spackled all over them, there's no denying that Brooks Brothers is one of the classiest clothiers around and with world class clothing come world class attention and customer service. Never have I been in here and not received prompt greetings and subtle inquiries as to whether or not I was finding everything I came in looking for. This place is great and they regularly have sales. I buy all of my professional and casual clothing here and their Golden Fleece Performance Polo is one of the nicest polo's i've ever owned and now have like 10 of them. Further, their non-iron button down shirts are fantastic. Sure, you're going to pay $30 more than you will for a Joseph A Bank shirt, but you make that up easily when you consider you don't have to dry clean anymore. Brooks Brothers is classic American elegance and I'm none too ashamed to rock it on the regular, despite what my hipster buddies think. Real men wear Nantucket Red! read more

Coming from NYC, I have a higher expectation for customer service and this location DOES NOT MEET it. Some of the salesmen come off as annoyed to answer my questions. After once wandering in to this Brooks Brothers store in 2010, I have frequently returned. The sales staff (especially Gayle) are always super helpful, recognize me as a regular customer, and are ready to search for the size or color that I need. While the suits can be pricey, they are well made, and Guillermo does a great job hemming, and letting things out so that they fit perfectly. They also let me know when sales are coming, which saves me money! The iron-free shirts are amazing, and great for business travel. Furthermore, the spago neckline dress shirts work for busty ladies like myself. read more

So, I actually started this experience at the Brooks Brothers in Tyson, which screwed up the order twice. To avoid another drive out there, I had them transfer the order (two suits) to the Conn Ave store, hoping the service would improve there. The first time I visited, the service was attentive (only thing that moved them up from one star). Unfortunately, the trouble started when I returned to pick them up. The tailors hadn't actually tailored the pants. So I took the jackets with a promise the pants would be done in a week. The weekend after they were due, I walked over to the store and not only were they not ready, they couldn't even find the pants! Finally, they found them, completed the work, and I picked up the pants this weekend. Picking them up was fairly uneventful, though standing next to a saleswoman berating a tailor ("Jesus Christ, black, not gray. You're killing me!") and complaining about other customers made it probably the least classy Brooks Brothers experience I'd ever had. It's disappointing really, because I'd had good experiences in Philadelphia, Boston, and San Francisco, but the Tyson's and DC stores have convinced me to forgo Brooks Brothers until I move. read more

My mom would love it if I shopped here exclusively, but that's just not going to happen. I like the non-iron button downs with the traditional fit. They actually are made for a woman with breasts-- it is very hard these days to find button-down shirts that don't gap in the front. They also make a slim-fit one for women who don't have this problem. Oh, and I believe they have pants here that you can actually bend over and even squat in without showing your derriere. This store closes at 7 pm. I needed a simple bow-tie, so I left work a bit early to get across town to the store in time. Lo and behold, I arrived at 6:42, a full 18 minutes before closing, but as I approach I see a guard locking the door. Seeing a bunch of people inside, I knocked to get their attention. The staff looked at me, then seemed to discuss amongst themselves what to do. Finally after about two minutes they sent one person over to tell me the store was closed. I respectfully explained that I left work early to get there and all I needed was one bow-tie, Id be in and out in 5 minutes. She then got ruder saying they were closed, I pointed to the sign saying closes at 7 and she pointedly said we're meeting now we are closed and walked away. I am livid over this incredible lack of basic decency, especially considering it was 18 minutes before closing time. Plenty of other stores are much better to their customers, and I will only be shopping elsewhere from now Update: the manager called me the next day and offered me a free bow tie as an apology. I love this Brooks Brothers store. The staff is friendly, and they are helpful, yet allow you to browse to your heart's content if that's all you want to do. I live across the country, but often work in DC and I invariably visit the store, because their shirts are simply the best you can get for less than 100 bucks, and their 3 for $229 is perfect. They look just as good as much more expensive Italian and French shirts. While you can get the same shirts and the same deals online, I like actually seeing the material close up, and I do like trying on the clothes. The tailoring service at this BB location is speedy, so I never have to worry that something that needs hemming up won't be ready by the time I leave town. Plus, if you like nice, classic clothes this is just a great store to visit. It's like a candy store. A bit expensive, but high quality and classic styles that last years. If you take the metro there (Red Line), it's a little faster to get off at the Farragut North stop and take the L Street exit . read more

BB is fine for the classics: the camel hair and cashmere blazer, the classic trench, sweater sets, and their non-iron dress shirts, which are TRULY non-iron. Beyond those pieces, I find the women's clothing to be quite matronly and dated in style. I went in recently to replace some nice non-iron shirts I've had for years and the selection was so poor, both in my size (2) and in variety. To add insult injury, the gentleman at the front of the store was so unfriendly. No smile, no greeting, no "thanks for coming in," especially on a cold, rainy day. read more

Their non-iron slim fit shirts are good quality and easy to maintain. They are expensive, but they often have 3-for-one or 2-for-one offers and they have a 50 washes (about 2 years) guarantee. In my experience, their customer service is excellent. In my case, I went there for an exchange, I was directed to Bob, the manager of the man's clothing area, who listened to me, understood what the problem was, quickly offered to replace the item, and gave me advice about how to care for the shirts. read more
