Amazing service and great selection for men's suits here. Flying into town on a complicated trip with a tight deadline for a multi-city trip, I called ahead and asked if they could accommodate tailoring a new suit on a tight timeline. Not only did they say yes, but provided a series of backup plans (including other tailors in the area I could fall back to, if they couldn't meet the deadline) just to make sure. When I arrived a selection of different suits and shirts were waiting for me, and a knowledgeable and experienced tailor walked me through all mt options. Ultimately this was cheaper, faster, and looked better than what I was quoted at a Nordstrom closer to home. They beat their estimate by several days and gave me ample time to try it on before I needed to head to the event, but it fit perfectly first try anyway. I was a bit nervous because of the surprisingly low reviews that I saw here before going, but as far as I can tell they are entirely undeserved. If you need formalwear in a pinch, this location is fantastic. read more

Brooks Brothers went bankrupt after Covid and is now under new ownership. While their flagship store on Madison Avenue in NYC remains much the same, the selection at this Pittsburgh location is a fraction of what is in New York or used to be here. What little they have here now also seems to be of noticeably lesser quality. Sad. read more

I bought a pair of men's chinos in August 2023, and the belt loops ripped off after the third wash. When I went into the store to get this resolved, the man working there accused me of purchasing them from an outlet store. He said he wouldn't be able to fix it because it was a lower "outlet quality" even though I bought them from his store. Would never go back, bad quality and service. read more

Recently Brooks Bros was reorganized and sold. Many items have been eliminated. In my review I mentioned shell cordovan shoes and belts. Brooks, in paring down during the pandemic, no longer carries the Alden brand and has changed to an Italian shoe maker. As such they no longer have shell Cordovan products. For those of you who don't know, shell cordovan costs more, but will last for decades. Just recently I found another source for Alden shell cordovan shoes. Ben Silver in Charleston, which has a large website presence as well as a mailed catalog. The price point is about the same as Brooks for these shoes. One other bit of advice. They Italian line of shoes at Brooks Brothers runs quite small, way off the size. I have bought two pairs of shoes in the past year and while, I wear a 101/2, I had to get a 12 for a comfortable fit. Also, strangely, Brooks no longer has tongue and heel pads so you'll have to get your own. They have also greatly trimmed back the women's section, but have much available online. Georgetta, the manager is a delight to work with, and it remains my go to haberdasher in Pittsburgh. read more

We recently had a new shirt from Brooks Brothers completely unraveled at the seam after two wears. We had it professionally laundered twice when we noticed the defect in the side seam. Yesterday, we took the shirt to the Brooks Brothers store in Downtown Pittsburgh to see what could be done to repair the shirt. We were shocked at what transpired! When we showed the shirt to several people at the desk, we were told that the shirt could not be repaired. We were also informed that the shirt was not to be professionally laundered as the shirt was easy care. Nowhere on the label does it say that. We were never told this when we purchased the shirts. Can't Brooks Brothers shirts stand up to professional laundering? A clerk, named Doug, then said to us, in a haughty tone, "I'm in the garment industry and I can read a label." His statement indicated that my husband and I were illiterate! We were insulted with by this comment and expressed our feelings about being insulted. We left the flawed shirt at the store for them to discard. The shirt was useless since it had a tear halfway up a side seam. This has not happened to any other shirt, exactly like the one in question, after professionally laundering many times. This shirt had to have had a defect in that particular side seam. Leaving the store, we felt upset by the entire experience. Where was the customer care in that encounter? Is it proper to insult the intelligence of your customers? My husband and I decided to go back to the store to talk to the manager to express our displeasure at what had transpired. Going into the entryway of the store, we asked to speak to a manager. It was then that we found out that Doug, the man who insulted our intelligence, was the manager! Doug did not want to hear what we had to say. We are in contact with Brooks Brothers customer service number and are writing a letter to the corporate offices of the company, too. I see from other posts that this is considered a quality store. I've recently been to my local downtown Brooks Brothers to get a suit that i ordered from them online altered. I would say that on the whole, the service was ok. That's exactly middle of the road. Nothing fancy, nothing glaringly incompetent although nothing spectacular either. Just 3 stars. As with all these stores, the highlight is the tailor (in this store's case, seamstress). She had a reasonable eye and quickly sized up where changes needed to be made. I would give her an A- only because beyond the extended basics, she didn't really have much to say, no real opinion to speak of except for making sure that arms and legs were the right length and the torso and neck were correctly aligned which, practically speaking are the most important things you want in a suit. Perhaps i wanted an auteur, which may be asking a bit much, but i had no complaints, i didn't feel i was dealing with a true craftsperson, which maybe is a lofty goal, but it still earns an A- from me. In this store, it's a two story deal. At the ground floor you've got casual wear and mens dress shirts, cufflinks and dress shoes. I found the greeter (manager?) on the ground floor to be incredibly attentive in contrast with nearly everyone else on that floor whose typical manner is curt and disengaged. "excuse me, do you have any of this glen plaid in orange?" "no, sorry, just what you see." [walks away]. End of story. What happened to the salesperson that looked for some alternative? The salesperson that enquired if this request for a $75(!) tie was perhaps for some important occasion where some other alternative might be readily available? Not here. Upstairs you've got the suits where the staff seems oddly diminished. At any time i've been up there, i see perhaps one person working the whole floor. The younger (mid 40s) sales staff seem more attentive in general up here and seem to manage multiple customers with better aplomb. The older salesperson i encountered when picking up my suit seemed scattered and seemed caught off guard when i asked to try on my altered suit which required a single 5 minute touch-up regarding the top button on the jacket which was slightly uneven. I have to wonder if i'm really expecting too much from this chain. I think my main frustrations stem from the utter cluelessness of the majority of the staff. My experience at this store (and one in san diego) seems to indicate that it really doesn't hurt to be a waspish 50-something, because at least then the staff seems to be head over heels to sell you anything (have you seen our 3 shirt special or our new levis 514s?!), but given my experience with them once it's clear that, yes, i *do* intend to buy something, their knowledge seems lacking and toadyish at best. I'm not sure if that's really the kind of attention i want. I suppose this is part of the "decline of a once great brand" which appears to have stretched itself a bit thin by entering into Ralph Lauren's market with their new prep-student focus "Fleece for children." Or maybe it's always been this way. Whatever. I just want a better-than-mediocre suit experience, is that really too much to ask for? read more

Shopping at Brooks Brothers on the day after Christmas has become as tradition for me and my family. The markdowns and deals are AMAZING and the service remains at the premier levels that we expect. Outside of the Christmas period, Brooks Brothers remains the staple location to purchase classic American business/casual clothing. The Pittsburgh store is one of the older locations from what I have heard and its location suggests that. Its rare to see a quality store set up shop downtown unless they are grandfathered in. The mens selection downstairs focuses on the casual attires that is perfect for more laid back offices and everyday wear. Upstairs the store becomes more formal with suits and dressier attire. Across both levels the service remains top notch. Part of this service level is due to the fact that employees are based on commission, but even during crowded times, when the commission situation is dramatically different, I still get the same personal Brooks Brothers service. read more

I have had good experiences in this store, dealing primarily with the men's shirt department upstairs. The quality is very good, my shirts are made in the U.S., the fit is perfect, and when I've been in the store picking fabrics or picking up ordered shirts, the staff has been friendly and attentive. I won't shop for shirts anywhere else. I appreciate being able to pick out a fabric and pull the rest of the shirt details from past orders. read more

I made a purchase at this store over two years ago and within weeks was barraged with spam. I have spent the last two years trying to get off of their spam list (I believe it is outsourced to ExactTarget) yet I still receive weekly emails from them. It is vendors like this that keep people from wanting to give their email address to them. . . They have responded numerous times assuring me that my email address has been removed from their lists only to have another unsolicited message hit my inbox within days! Do NOT give this company your email address, they certainly do not honor any of hteri opt out processes. read more

Of many Brooks Brothers stores that I've shopped in, this was by far the worst experience. My partner and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon while walking around in Downtown and enjoying the day. Upon entering the store, the woman nearest the door completely ignored us and yet managed to greet the two who walked in immediately behind us. Of note, the store was completely empty except for the two of us and the other pair. We went on to browse their summer button-down casual shirts, going on being ignored, for at least ten more minutes. Another associate - a young man - came by to straighten up the stacks of shirts. He didn't deem us worthy of speaking to either. After moving to a different section of the store, the same woman who paid us no attention at the door, decided she needed to explain to us rather condescendingly how the company's regular v. slim fit sizing was indicated by the color of tag inside the collar. Clearly, she didn't look closely or she'd have noticed I was wearing a Brooks shirt. I'm not a rube who fell off of the truck from the farm this morning... Following that exercise, she asked where our "friends" went. I replied that we weren't with the others, the ones she'd actually greeted earlier. All in all, I don't think I'll worry about returning to this location any time soon. Just because a customer is wearing shorts and flip-flops doesn't mean they're not going to buy anything. One bad experience does not a bad company make, but it's hard to forget being treated like trash. read more

Brooks Brothers in downtown Pittsburgh is one of the best retail stores in the city. For the people who criticize the service over some petty issue, please remember, it is about the only department store left in the city limits, and we are FORTUNATE to have this classic retail store with its beautiful clothing. I find the customer service is usually great. They order items, they do searches for items, and they are basically helpful. The best part of the store is the quality clothes, and the quality fabrics, which admittedly, are very expensive, but for the most part, high quality. One of the few places where you can still buy an all-wool coat, not some cheap blend. read more

Can I give this location zero stars? One of the worst experiences I have ever had. Strike 1: I went into the store to ask about sizing for the Black Fleece line - I was not wearing a suit, which is the only reason I can figure that no one could be bothered to help me, let alone look at me when I asked a question. The answer I was unapologetically given by a gentleman that could neither be bothered to stand or shake my hand - 'Use the online size guide.' **Note to future customers - do not expect assistance if you are wear Barbour or Hunter boots. Apparel made by royal appointment is not good enough for our Pittsburgh brethren.** Strike 2: I decided that perhaps my previous experience was just a bad day, so I went into the store again to purchase two suits for the summer. I wanted to get the fit right. The first suit they had int the store and it only took 3 weeks for the alterations to be completed - which I think would have been record time for Motel, but I'd like to think life is a little better in modern day Pittsburgh than Anatevka. Strike 3: The second suit, and arguable the more important of the two, was needed for an event one month after the day I went in to buy them. It took 3 phone calls and 2 visits to find out that the suit I wanted wasn't available, so I ordered another. When the suit arrived 1.5weeks before my event, it was the wrong suit. The color was different and the buttons where wrong. The gentleman that was 'assisting' me told me in the most unapologetic of tones, 'Well these are the buttons that it came with.' There was an outright refusal to admit it was the wrong suit. The only reason that a new suit was offered was because it didn't fit. The fact that the suit didn't fit was accompanied with a flippant remark of 'I told you this was a slim fit' and a blank look. No solution. I had to ask to try on a larger size, until we found the proper shoulder fit. I asked that a new suit be rushed to the store. 4 days later the suit arrived and I took it to a private tailor in Squirrel HIll. I got the suit back in 3 days. I realize that these complaints might seem 'first world' but that is why I went into the store - customer service. It does not exist at this store. Do yourself a favor and order online or visit the shop in Manhattan when you are in town for PA Society. Never. Again. read more
