My son is graduating soon so my presents all are something to help him with applications to Law School or his promotion at his current job. I am a sales person at my core. If I haven't learned anything while working on commissions is to never prejudge a potential customer. A few years ago I walked in a BB store to buy my other son a few suits to interview in because first impressions matter. I walked around and was finally greeted by a smirking jerk. His direct words were, "That's too nice a suit to wear to court. ". I looked at him and asked him to beg my pardon, Will you repeat that? This jerk asked me if I thought their prices were the same as JCP? I was speechless. I was not feeling well and tears rolled down my face. Not because of his I insults but it was just the acknowledgment of how hard it is to be treated right by people like him. I just didn't have it in me to even ask for the manger. I wasted time telling him my son would be going to court but not as a defendant. He would be the arresting officer. That I had been out looking for a lost foster dog the reason I looked so casual but I assured him I could pay whatever their prices were. I wanted to put my previous encounter behind me and see if that jerk was still there. Unfortunately, Jos A. Banks is where a dear friend of mine buys his clothes and I heard his reminder in my head as I stood at the door with my hand reaching out to the door. Throughout my suit shopping struggles, my mom kept telling me to go to Brooks Brothers. So, the husband and I went to Brooks Brothers. On the plus side, service was good. We were promptly greeted by a gentleman, and once he found out we were looking for women's clothes, he summoned a female sales rep. She seemed to know the stock, although she did warn me that things were picked over due to their winter sale. Yet, despite her assuring me that all their pants were styled the same, I tried three different pairs and each was off in its own way. Some were lined, some weren't, some fabric seemed to show every curve (good and bad!), some didn't... Honestly, it was weird. My usual size was on the snug side, but the next size up was huge. Since they do tailoring, the sales rep was telling me that they could take in the larger size, but honestly, between a huge waist and being way too long, I was afraid that any tailoring attempts would result in Franken-pants. And then do I have to pay for said pants anyway? Not something I want to find out. Now, jackets are a lot easier to fit for me, and Brooks Brothers has some beautiful ones. I loved the gray with white pinstripes, and the check-patterned navy. But these jackets were FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. Like...come on! That is an INSANE amount of money! I forget how much the pants were, but we were basically looking at a close to $1,000 suit for me, with who knows how much tailoring required, some of which might be included (hemming), some of which might not be (taking in pants waist). And since we were looking at having to order some sizes, it would be another two trips to Birmingham to have everything fitted and altered, and they really wanted online orders to go through the store so they could get credit for them. Honestly, just thinking about all the guessing, ordering, fitting, waiting, and altering involved, with no real guarantee of success, makes me tired. So while appreciate the efforts they went to in trying to find something that worked for me, I think the upshot is that I'm just not a good fit for Brooks Brothers, both in body and in wallet. read more

Update 4/1/14 I have not been able to wear the three slacks I purchased & had tailored here because the belt loop for the slacks are too narrow for any belt. Brought them back to see if there was any way I adjust the belt loop & I was told to get a smaller belt. No other offer to help in any way was extended. Reason I got the boys size is because I don't fit into the men's size for #BrooksBrothers so the sales consultant was kind enough to find slacks from the boys department for me. I thought they would help somehow with a goodwill gesture if I bought additional slacks to replace these but I think I have too high expectations for this place. Good news though - some homeless chap in Birmingham, AL will be strutting some decent slacks around town. read more

Brooks is a high end mens clothier. Now with womens lines. I have purchased shirts, custom made, for years from them. Their warranty is the best in the business, if it isnt acceptable it is made so. Just like REI, Columbia, Eddie Bauer, Mountain Hardware, and Sorel, I am sure I have missed a few, mea culpa. Yes the prices are higher but with a national presence backing up the warranty and being able to order custom products just by calling, they do keep your vital statistics on file, it is well worth it. Just purchased a man bag for my tablet, exactly what i wanted and the size i needed. Service in the store is impeccable, and Charles the associate who helped me was excellent. Kudos to him. I've been to brooks brothers to get some shirts for my upcoming wedding. I am please to say the service at the store was very good. Shout out to Jim Cooper for sorting me out he was patient when helping me out with fits, sizes and collars. I settled on their Milano fit which is a European shirt. They had no issue ordering it in for me and in 2 days. How good is that!! The shirts themselves are good quality and hope they will last a while. This is my first brooks brothers purchase. Thy did a good job of explaining the different i quality to be for the shirts I looked at. The store itself is very clean and presentable, doesn't seem to be busy which means you get the service you deserve. I'll be looking to buy from these gents again in the future read more

If you haven't been to BB you might get a bit of sticker shock. It isn't cheap. But....its worth it. You may not want to pay over $100 for a shirt but these are not ordinary shirts. They truly are a higher quality. The helpful staff will make sure it fits right and looks great. Then the higher quality means it will last longer. They have everything you need to look great from shoes all the way to the top. Tailored suits so you look and feel great. Something about a well fitting suit makes you fell better, act better, and feel like you can accomplish anything. I highly recommend this store and its staff. read more

I like the suits and shirts. However, I am unimpressed with the sales staff, especially the younger staff. They do not know how to respond to a customer about to spend what I consider a lot of money for a suit, shirt and tie. Please don't act like you are doing me a favor, and please learn how to offer clothing based on what I have described what I am looking for, not something else. The last time I was in the store they did not have in stock what I was looking for, would have had to order it, necessitating another trip to the store. Maybe, two more trips if alterations are required. The location of the store is also an issue. Located in the Summit makes navigation to the store down Highway 280 a real pain. read more

I bought my wedding suit at this brooks brothers location. The staff was helpful and they did their best to get me the best deal. I even purchased my groomsmen pants at this store. The nice thing about B.B. is they shipped each pair of pants directly to my groomsmen. Which is a huge help because some of them live in the major metropolitan areas where it 's hard for them to get to a store. read more
