I lived at Brookmore for about a year and enjoyed my time immensely. The location was not only close to my workplace but in the heart of Old Town Pasadena; literally such a short walk to the best stores and restaurants in the area. I originally started my lease when Robert was the property manager and almost regret my decision since his management fell far from my expectation. After a few weeks, Mert started his position at Brookmore and I could not be more relieved. Although he was new to his position as an on-site manager, it never felt that way. He was ALWAYS incredibly helpful, responsive, warm and welcoming. He made my time at Brookmore very enjoyable. The reason why I moved was just to upgrade the size of my apartment. Other than that, I have no negative comments about Brookmore! read more

My time at the Brookemore was an absolute delight. I initially chose the Brookemore because of the proximity to Old Town and downtown Paseo- both walking distance from the apartments. I not only fell in love with the area but how I was treated by our property manager, Janette. She's hospitable, professional and accommodating. She made me feel at home every time I saw her, it was nice to see inspiring quotes and positive messages that she wrote on a chalkboard as you entered and exited the building. I've lived in this building for almost 4 years. During my tenure, I've seen a vast improvement in the management of the building and fulfillment of tenants' needs. We went from management that does not care to one that does. Some of the positive changes I've seen include : * "upgrading" the tenants and creating a better sense of community; * significant improvement in the cleanliness of our surroundings and major physical upgrades; * much improved management of maintenance tasks in a 1920's building with its challenges; and * a more professional and fair lease renewal process. I highly recommend living in such a great historic building at least once in your life. You will not be disappointed. read more

My wife and I lived at the Brookemore Apartments for 3 Years. We chose the location because of the proximity to Old Town. We truly enjoyed our residence there during that time. The apartments offer WiFi and parking included in the rent, as well as free coffee and breakfast on Fridays. We loved the style of the exposed brick in our unit. Neighbors were all great people, seemed most of them were CalTech students. Management were quick, helpful, and responsive. If we didn't ended up moving back to the East Coast, we would likely still be living there. read more

So last week i went to visit Brookmore Apartments for the second time and i was prepared to sign a lease for a studio apartment. I asked my sister to come along so that i could show her the place and get her feedback. So we decided to come in, and called Helen the manager of the building to ensure that it was ok. She was there and there didn't seem to be an issue. Upon arrival Helen buzzed us in, and when we asked to see the place she refused to show us one that was being clean by the cleaning lady because as she claimed it would "scuff up the floors". Furthermore, she claimed that there was nothing to show and that we would have to come back at another time. Her tone and body language in response to questions was extremely rude and unprofessional. When we asked if we could see the building like the lounge area, the facilities, the hallways she refused to show that as well. It appeared that she had no interest at all in renting any of the apartments that she claimed they had. She made every excuse in the book to not get out of her chair and show us around. Because of the poor treatment that i received from Helen I decided to not rent this property. She was so unwilling to comply with anything that i asked. It must have been that she did not want me to rent the apartment. Im writing to inform you all of the awful treatment that i received from Helen and I hope the property owners of the building recognize that she is not helping to rent the apartments out to good individuals but rather inhibiting the properties growth. She is an awful employee and needs to be REPLACED as soon as possible!! I feel bad for the tenants who have to deal with such of a rude and ugly person on a day to day basis. I AM RELIEVED that i didn't rent from Brookmore Apartments! I have considered myself very LUCKY. read more

I fell in love with this building the first time I drove by it. Since moving in 6 months ago I have found a warm and welcoming community, responsive and engaging management, and the exact urban feel I was hoping for. This is a beautifully restored historic piece of Old Town Pasadena. The location to the freeway and metro are ideal. Walking to the heart of old town takes 5 minutes. Lived here for a year. The one-bedroom apartments have extremely small living space, best suited for only one person. The biggest complaint I have is that you have no choice but to pay $550 to have the place painted and cleaned upon move out. Our place had already been professionally cleaned, but they still took the money out of our security deposit. Our apartment was less than 500 square feet.. the painting itself apparently cost $450 ...completely unreasonable and slimy. read more

I lived at Brookmore, 4th floor facing North from Feb 2010 - Aug 2011. It was my first time living without roommates and the apartment I was in was super cozy and homey. I've never felt as safe as I did while living at Brookmore. It's directly across from the Pasadena Police headquarters, as well as city hall. You bump into a few stray people who are in-between situations of life, but I never felt unsafe. Also key was the closeness to the metro (I worked downtown LA), Old Towne shops, and Paseo shopping area. Having a Target 15 minute walk away was also nice. I'd give this place 4.5 stars, but yelp only allows round numbers (sorry, have to round down). The only knock I have is the parking situation, which they've improved by adding an outdoor lot half a block north of Brookmore. I still parked in the parking structure 1.5 blocks south, across from Memorial Park Metro station because it was covered. read more

Great location, just on the outskirts of Old Town and only 1 block away from the Central Library. I lived there from July 04 to July 05. The apartments are pricey, but were recently renovated which made that monthly rent check a little more tolerable. If I had the income to spare, I'd live there again. My biggest complaint was the parking situation. Our parking garage was 3 blocks away and it wasn't exactly the safest feeling walk back from the garage at 2 A.M. If you cherish historic buildings you will love Brookmore! Brick walls inside your unit updated with luxury finishes, including a new kitchen with countertops and hardwood laminate floors, with a walk-in closet. With a simple touch of ascent colors on the wall. I love it here so much! I am in the heart of Old Town Pasadena. Right next door to Brookmore is Memorial Park, which I just learned has grass field audiences each weekend for summer long live music. I am also right next to the Metro Station to catch each morning to the Jewelry District. I love coming home to Brookmore after a busy day. Seeing the property managers and just knowing they care very much about their residents. There's a nice, upbeat vibe here. Amazing onsite, CLEAN, laundry room, with a full rec room and kitchen in the basement, BBQ in the back and your little pets are allowed to join you in a New York state of mind in beautiful California. And let's not forget coffee and morning treats on Friday in the foyer. Delicious. If you are running late you can grab breakfast while you are running out the door. The pictures on Yelp are old, there has been so much TLC since those were posted, which I think it coincides with new management. I'll see if I can post updates. Cheers to a city life! Lived in 223 (1 bedroom, 850/mo) with my partner 2001-2003 2.5 years. The only reason I moved out was to relocate, which I regretted. The place was funkier then, not sure I'm a fan of the upgrades but the brown office carpet in the common areas was hideous. We had the same carpet in our place, we ripped it up and painted the wood floors a stunning deep grey. We braved the first summer with no a/c, bought a powerful window unit the 2nd summer. I understand all units have a/c now. We were a building of artists, recluses and weirdos. I think we were all 3. The building was pet friendly. We had 2 cats and a dog. I loved the location and the neighborhood, an easy walk to work when we had the store on Holly Street. Parking was also on Holly Street, kind of a drag but not "dangerous" as some have said in reviews. I don't think they've ever seen a dangerous neighborhood. There was no Gold Line until right before I moved out, that would have been spectacular. I ate WAY too much King Taco. Yes, the units are small. If you want a bigger place for the money, move out of Old Pas,. One story before I go: Picture it, hot as hell summer 2002. Upstairs and 1 over, the guy who lived in 322 (I think it's 322, the one next to 323) died. He was discovered a few weeks later by Joseph, the manager who creepily relayed every creepy, crawly detail (shudders). They had to do a super thorough cleaning and let the place air out before they could rent it again. Don't trip, this has happened a LOT in old buildings. I live in a bigger, nicer apartment in Hollywood but I liked my place at the Brookmore better. It was the right combination of vibe, aesthetic and neighborhood. Hopefully the renovations haven't ruined that. read more

I made the mistake of signing up for this place without really seeing it as I was in a time crunch - but it is one of the worst mistakes i made in my adult life. I live here, regret it and will absolutely move out of the place as soon as my lease is up!. I think there are 3 BIG positives for this place - one this place is really really close to downtown pasadena (literally city center), it is quaint and charming from the outside (brick building ),second the place is definitely dog friendly. These positives are absolutely negated by the following:- - There is a LOT of homeless folks hanging around in this area. When you step outside it smells like you have stepped into some open toilet area. - The room that I am in is really not soundproof in any way shape or form. i made the mistake of having a room right above the garbage dumpster and every single night starting from 12 midnight - I have a beeline of dumpster divers hunting for cans. You can hear them very very clearly and my sleeping is completely messed up because of that. - I am also next to an elevator and when that operates you can clearly hear the noise that is making. - The rooms are definitely not soundproof - I can hear street noise clearly with occasional clear talks 24/7. I can hear people's conversation 24/7 - The studios are pretty useless. There is a LOT of dead space with no usability. Fortunately, I am not here that much and I don't have much -but I don't see anyone paying 1600+ bucks for a studio here. Contrary to what is being written about management -they seem just fine. May be if your place is towards the back of the apartment structure - you may have less issues than what i am having currently. read more

Has everything a person could need for semi luxurious pasadena living and it's right off Walnut and so close to old tone shops and restaurants. This is an amazing building on so many different levels. To start off, the aesthetics of the building are amazing. If you are in the market for a charming retro-style apartment with all the benefits of modern living, this is your place. The units are cozy and efficient. Definitely not for a colony of people, but perfect for those of you just starting out, or looking for a more manageable place to live the best days of your life. Among other perks of the place, this building has an amazing plot right in the heart of Old Town Pasadena. Also, management is thrilled to see new pets (unlike 99% of apartment buildings). All units are remodeled and updated with ac/heat, basic cable, wifi and gorgeous carpeting or hardwood flooring (I've lived in both types). Kitchens are quaint yet serve their purpose. Most units have the cutest built-in details that can only be appreciated once you see them. Thats mostly because of the fact that EVERY UNIT IS UNIQUE! thats right, not one unit is the same. But i must say that the most beautiful part about the building is the staff. Melissa is by far the most friendly and accommodating property manager I've ever known. Joanne, her assistant, is also very attentive and sweet. Just a pleasure to come home and have these ladies to greet and sincerely care for your well being. The repairs or touch-ups needed, (which are seriously far and few between) are handled immediately. Ive never had to wait around for a call back or a work order. Max, the building's own handyman, is quick, efficient and best of all, FRIENDLY. I could go on, but i feel the Building's web site could do a better job selling it. When I lived at Brookmore we had a wonderful manger by the name of Kabin. After Kabin left and new managment came in (won't mention any names, but the person may have been reference in other reviews on yelp lol) the whole operation fell apart. Needless to say we moved out, or we were forced out by significant increases in our rent after our iinitial lease was expired. I hope this helps, good luck!!! read more

I'm not one to dwell on negative experiences but Brookmore has given me no choice to dwell because of the money they still owe me. this building is beautiful BUT the corporation that owns it is made up of the most foul people I've ever come across. So I'm writing this in hopes of keeping people from being in a similar situation as mine rather than as revenge. I walked through an apartment (still occupied at the time) and decided to put a deposit down on the apartment right away just to hold it while the current owner moved out and Brookmore made necessary renovations. Apartment was $1400 a month..all inclusive. (as seen on the website, the complexes biggest draw WAS utilities included!) and the deposit was $500. I was told it would be done in 2 weeks which turned into NEARLY A MONTH. (i should have ran away just based on that) So i arrive on move-in day with all of my things waiting in the lobby while i sign the lease. I start looking over the lease and notice Addendum G is missing..okay sketchy so i ask about it and it turns out they excluded Addendum G because they had plans to unbundled utilities in the near future and they wanted me to sign saying they could charge me for utilities and up my rent at anytime. So i could have been paying a few hundred dollars more whenever the corporate office decided they wanted more money. THANK GOD I READ THE FINE PRINT. ask questions friends! Helen, the leasing manager realized she had never told me about this and quickly apologized, called corporate & I was told I'd be given all my money back due to the lack to information they gave me about additional charges prior to my move in date. (and thus, addendum G not being present made the lease illegal) Now I'm here nearly two months later with NONE of the money Brookmore owes me. They told me for the first few weeks I'd get it back within the week and It never showed. After many unpleasant phone calls DANIEL SAUNDERS (from the corporate office) I was again promised my money and have nothing to show for it. Can't tell you how foul he is. He's promised me my money and one phone call later said i don't have any right to my money..BI polar much? These people are crazy, they don't care about their tenants. They care about money and to be living under people who'd put money before you is an absolutely terrifying thing. watch out people. & ask questions before you sign things. Brookmore Apartments will do anything to keep your money, even if it's unjust. read more
