I like this place for small events. The venue is small. Very small. I only venture here when friends press me to go. The upper level is where the "sections" are but they are very close to the bar leaving little to no room to access the bathrooms. There is a platform with sections as well but those have enough seating for 2 people. I was here to watch the Superbowl with friends but I would have preferred the sound on over music. That was my mistake for not realizing there would be no audio. read more

My fiance and I had such a great time at Brooklyn. We decided to come here for happy hour on a Friday night. The music was great and had us dancing in our seats. The pizza and wings really hit the spot and went well with the wine we chose. We enjoyed ourselves even though we dined at the bar. What a great addition to U Street! This place is really a vibe. Downstairs you have music, food, and a bar & upstairs is like a mini-nightclub with VIP sections, bottle service, hookah & everything lol. So I agree with anyone who called this place a clubstaurant. The food and drinks are really good, but I don't recommend this place for date night because the music was so loud downstairs that I literally had to yell at my friends for them to hear me. Drink prices are about the same as anywhere else in DC..expensive, but I definitely will be back. P.S. This place is right next door to Amsterdam & right now Brooklyn on U has their foot on Amsterdam's neck! I hope Brooklyn continues to thrive. read more

This is my second time coming here. I came here with my 2 friends for Sunday brunch. The food is so good and the music is great. I had the grilled salmon with pasta and finished the whole plate. The workers are very friendly and accommodating despite the fact that I did not have a reservation. Pamela our waitress was so cute and funny. She took really good care of my table. REASON FOR GOING: Birthday Celebration FIRST GLANCE: I've been to Brookyln On U twice since it opened - once for quick drinks and the second time for a birthday celebration. The first time, Brooklyn had just opened. Gorgeous glassware and boxwood backgrounds with clever neon signs give this place that modern touch with plenty of photo opps for girls or guys night out. There are two floors. The first floor is a restaurant/lounge and the second floor is meant for dancing/drinking. That's a great option for when you're out with a group of friends and don't want to make too many stops in the night. PRICES: Not anything more/less than average DC clubs/bars. About $13 per drink before tips. I haven't tried the food yet, but I'll share an update once I do. From the menu options, I look forward to trying it out! PARKING: U street is tough when it comes to parking. I suggest looking for parking a few blocks away and walking to Brooklyn. If it's a weeknight, there may be a couple spaces available, but don't count on it. SUGGESTED OCCASIONS: Birthday parties, group dinners, private parties *Our birthday girl's celebration was made extra special with live photo sharing on the surrounding screens. I definitely recommend booking a private party here for a special event* OVERALL: Having just opened, Brooklyn On U is a nice addition to DC nightlife. I expect it will get quite the buzz as we approach summertime day parties and brunches. I really wanted to like this place, the first few times I came Here it was great and they promoted this restaurant as being black owned, come to find out it's not. On my third visit here I ordered a margarita and there was a BUG in my drink. The server was very inattentive to the point where I had to ask another employee to bring the manager over. They also then proceeded to automatically include gratuity and didn't even once apologize for having the mistake. Lit Music, friendly staff, and awesome food! Brooklyn on U is a cute and chic restaurant. The staff are awesome, you have insight on the kitchen so you're able to see how the food is getting prepared. I came here on Sunday during brunch and had an awesome time.They had music ranging from Beyonce, to city girls, to UGK, to afro beats... you name it plus the DJ is good on any request you have. I ordered the chicken and waffles, which came in a great portion. I also order the bottomless mimosas which were worth the money because they are nice and strong (how they should be). The venue is super cute for those IG pictures -its like a grass wall background. bottom line I would definitely be coming back again. The only reason I haven't given this place 5 stars is because of the prices (it can be a bit expensive) I ordered one entree with the mimosas and my bill was about $60 and then add the tip. read more

Came here on a Friday night completely unplanned. I was visiting DC and decided to check out U Street but also was kinda hungry by the time I made my way to the area. Walking past here, I saw they had some happy hour specials and decided to stop and check them out. Definitely a fun spot to stop into. They have a bar and some booth seating. A DJ was present and the music was great. We ordered buffalo wings and and chicken tacos from the happy hour menu which we were satisfied with at the moment. Pretty sure the tacos were better than my wings. We also ended up ordering 2 pitchers of the Henny Sangria, which I actually enjoyed because I don't usually like Hennessy. Our waiter was great. This review is based on the atmosphere on Saturday nights. I had a great time here. The djs, on the first floor, were open to requests. The pizza was pretty good also. I had the margharetta (there is no way that is spelled right). But the drinks were amazing. And everyone rhat knows me KNOWS that I do not like alcohol. I had the Crown heights. 3 times. The only downside was that I met these ignorant ass women from Chicago. I am going to call out ignorant people for a moment. If you are offended by this, stop reading....now. If a lone alpha male offers you something, AND you are in a group of 5, your response should never be, "no" because you think it might be laced. There is literally nothing ruder that you can say to someone. You are literally calling me a rapist/serial killer based upon my generosity. If someone "laces" something with something, what then could it be that would allow me to take you from all 4 of your remaining friends? The service is horrible, possibly because gratuity is already included in the check, and the food is just okay. Also, DO NOT order a hookah. This place was fantastic, I really enjoyed christening my summer vacation at Brooklyn on U a few weeks ago. They were immediately accommodating of our large group and the service was just impeccable. To wait on a large group during happy hour at a busy time on U St sounds like it would probably be a longer wait time than what I experienced at Brooklyn on U. The ambiance was a whole vibe. The DJ spins the best and latest music. The green walk and other deco is brilliantly paired and it comes together a bit more classy than a sports bar, but not yet a formal restaurant. I guess that's why it's the self-proclaimed "clubstaraunt". I will definitely be back for the nice eats, I had an Ahi tuna dip and a few different happy hour cocktails . I attended the Beyonce Homecoming Watch Party and thoroughly enjoyed it! From the vibe to the level of professionalism - everything was on point. I didn't know about this spot until seeing it on Eventbrite and am glad that I saw it when I did. My friend and I literally had "front row" seats (just a sitting section in front of the screen" and it made the experience 10x better. As for food, I had the shrimp and grits. Damn near cried because I haven't had corn grits in a loooooonnng time since moving from New Orleans so my heart was full. Everything was seasoned and I was really about to ask if they sell the corn grits by the tub. I had a rum drink that had raspberries in it. It was very sweet but also great! Tried this place because I heard it was black-owned. Don't know if that is true, but I was disappointed by my first experience there. Came in and was promptly greeted by Tracy. She was kind, professional, pleasant, and a joy to be around. But I was soon to learn that my joy was short-lived. Soon, a lovely statuesque woman appeared behind the bar. I waited, for what seemed like a ridiculous amount of time, for her to acknowledge me and the other members of our party, but she never did. Our drinks were empty, but she refused to acknowledge us. Really great service from the moment you walk in the door. The ambiance was trendy, with a live DJ and fresh flowers adorning brick walls and wooden tables. The mac and cheese may be the best I've had in the city in years. Each of our seven entrees were tasty with standard portion sizes - we really liked that the salmon came with lentils and rainbow carrots! Our drinks were presented with floral garnishes or fresh cucumbers. Each had really robust flavor, so we probably drank more than intended, because every new drink brought to the table gave someone else cocktail envy, and the music was so good that everyone wanted to stay another round. I came here for a happy hour and it's a nice space. A little tight if you have a lot of people in the area, but the bartenders were nice. The wings were actually not good at all. The wings were so mediocre and I love wings. It's has if they just fried the wings and threw buffalo sauce on top of it. So unseasoned with sauce. The drinks were good, but definitely not happy hour prices. The ambiance is cool though. I came here with a friend and met up with a few others here as well. I'm sure I'll be back to update this rating at some point but it's a cool spot and it's pretty new too so it a new vibe especially for people we aren't familiar with it as yet. This place was very dissatisfying my food was overcooked we had bottomless mimosas and the drink was not good they slip on bottle between two drinks. The waiter did not check on us periodically like she was suppose to then we never started the bottomless when we came in the door only got 3 rounds for 90 minutes and we was done with the bottom but the waiter was terrible. It was my first time going for brunch, which happened to be reserved for a friends birthday. My friends had gotten there 10 minutes before my sister and I, but as soon as we sat down, the waiter told us that we would need to hurry up and place our order because they have a lot of reservations and a 2-hour window.
