Brooklyn Bar and Grill has recently opened on Staunton Street. We were bar hopping on our pseudo-Friday night and stopped in for another round of drinks and some munch. They are still having some teething problems as the front lights popped whilst we were there, and the music was a bit stop-start.
The bar itself is small, as are most of the restaurants on Staunton Street. We grabbed a table at the shop front. Although they've really tried to make the space comfortable with good chairs, the small factor impacts nonetheless. We were sort of in the bar and then sort of on the street. People were walking by and bumping into us in typical Hong Kong fashion.
The staff were fun, engaged in our banter and helped us with our order. We grabbed some food too. In true American style, the portions were HUGE! Like, proper huge. We saw a burger come out that was the size of a man's face. We ordered:-
Meatballs - emerged. Welly delicious. Full of beautiful herby flavour, juicy and succulent.
Sliders - beef, pulled pork, chicken and fish. I nommed the middle of the beef one which was divine. The rest of the girls enjoyed the others too, although commented that the fish and chicken were a little over fried.
Truffle Mac & Cheese - this was served in a beautiful skillet and piping hot. You could smell the ruffle a mile off, and when you stuck a fork in it, the cheese was all melty and gooey. That was soon devoured.
The bar also came round with free apple martini shooters, which is always a plus on a pseudo-Friday. There was also a lot of comedy as, due to the tight space, servers were dropping food left, right and centre. Whenever a bun slid off the plate the entire bar went "wwwaaaaahayyy" in a truly obnoxious style when you're a few drinks in. read more
