I've come here at two different time periods for two separate issues (back/neck pain and allergies). In both cases I don't think the actual acupuncture helped at all, however both times they helped me find a non-drug related way to minimize or get rid of the discomfort that came with these chronic issues. They look at your symptoms and problems as a whole and in addition to the acupuncture they also recommend changes to your lifestyle. I thought I had tried everything by the time I made it to Brooklyn Acupuncture and was really stunned when I finally found such simple straight forward solutions thanks to the recommendation of the Brooklyn Acupuncture staff. I've been back pain free for almost two years now thanks to some exercises in a book they recommended and my allergies are much more manageable after trying some of their suggested dietary restrictions. read more

Amazing, affordable, nurturing, helpful. I can't say enough about BAP. I've been going there for about 4 years for a variety of minor ailments (shoulder pain, foot pain from botched surgery, knee pain) and get relief every time. I also was treated to ease the symptoms of menopause (night sweats and hot flashes) with excellent results. Sarah helped usher me gracefully through menopause without killing anyone. All of the practitioners are caring and excellent at what they do. The atmosphere is so relaxing and comforting. I made an appointment a month in advance and had BAP cancel on me 5 days prior. Made a second appointment and had BAP call me 1 hour and 40 minutes before the appointment asking me to come in early. After a 40 minute drive from the UES and trouble finding parking, I showed up 18 minutes late only to have them tell me they wouldn't see me because of that. So much for their "personal dedication to the community" BS. They couldn't empathize with NYC traffic and parking for a first (and now last) time customer? read more

This place is great. Very friendly, clean and efficient. I have seen two acupuncturists, and liked one much better... I highly recommend Martha, who is extremely gentle and is a great listener. I LOVE Brooklyn Acupuncture Project! It changed my life! Physically, my neck is healed after a year and a half of chronic pain from two herniated discs, my period cramps are no longer debilitating, my allergies are not as intense, my moods are more stable, I sleep better. I have been receiving treatment at Brooklyn Acupuncture Project four times a week since early July. Christopher Peacock and Brittany Harris are wonderful!! They work together on my treatment, reading each others treatment plan and communicating with each other about my treatment. I am recovering from a very nasty problem with prescription drugs created by my (former) psychiatrist. Everyone at this program is caring and very sympathetic. Because the program has six beds and two treatment chairs, they can afford to provide treatment to their patients at a very low cost. I am so grateful that I found Brooklyn Acupuncture Project. In the last few weeks of my pregnancy (nearly a year and a half ago) my back began spasming and Rez was able to make me comfortable when even my midwife said the spasms would probably keep up until the baby came. Nearly a year and a half later I am still seeing Rez. At first she was simply helping my body repair itself after the birth, but I've continued to see her for everything from chronic lower back pain to poor digestion to poor concentration and anxiety. I am lucky to have health insurance and a good GP who believes in wholistic approaches, but more and more I consider Rez my "real" doctor. She knows my history and is a caring and skillful practitioner. She is professional and thorough And I can't say enough about how she's helped me heal. As for BAP itself, all the staff I've ever dealt with have been warm and friendly yet professional. The space is so serene, and I really believe that the communal spirit of the place really affects everyone's healing in a positive way. Plus, the views are spectacular. And since my health insurance company doesn't recognize acupuncture as "real" medecine, I am incredibly appreciative of the sliding scale fees. Beautiful space and amazing practitioners. I previously spent a fortune on individual sessions in Manhattan for fertility related acupuncture treatments. I switched to see Brittany at BAP for almost weekly treatments while I was trying to get pregnant and continued throughout the pregnancy. I now have a 5 month old and will always be grateful to her and BAP. She is a miracle worker! Her calmness, encouragement and intuitiveness helped me persevere through a challenging time. The services offered at BAP are really wonderful, and their practitioners are skilled and professional. However, I agree with some of the other reviewers and say that their cancellation policy is a little rigid and that reception needs some work (though Nicole is awesome). I am a very regular client, am usually early for my appointments, and have been flexible many times when practitioners have called and needed to reschedule sessions--even leaving work early to accommodate their requests. Harsh weather has made cross-borough travel really tricky this winter, and I was recently running late for a regular appointment. When I called to let them know I would be there in 5 minutes--making me a total of 12 minutes late for a regular appointment--I was refused treatment for the day. I totally understand that this is their policy. I also have to recommend that, if a strict late policy is necessary, that they work to train reception staff on how to smoothly handle these cancellations with clients. Most of their staff is wonderful, but a couple of their receptionists are not great. For people who are working to treat chronic conditions, it can feel a little frustrating and definitely out of synch with what BAP offers overall. read more

I don't want to write a wholeheartedly negative review because that wouldn't portray the entire picture. So here I go... I went to Brooklyn Acupuncture Project after reading the very positive reviews on yelp and having acupuncture recommended to me for my chronic neck problems. I was a little tentative of the whole process as I'm not a huge fan of needles and having them stuck into me in a large room with other people. But I have to say that I was positively surprised by the atmosphere and attentiveness that was given to my by Ros on the first visit. She asked me thoroughly about the history of my pain and other aspects of my health and routine. I had a headache the following day and my neck was quite sore but I was noticeably less stiff and pained for the next week. I scheduled to come back two weeks later but unfortunately had to cancel due to traffic. I paid the cancellation fee and was gearing to go in for the next appointment. When I arrived for my rescheduled appointment the following week there was a very different vibe in the place. The woman working at the front desk, who was very sweet and warm, was talking loudly to someone on her phone when I came in. I waited until she was done to check in. When I got back to work with the same practitioner, she was quite different- very rushed and cold and seemed annoyed to have to go through all of the steps of checking back in with me about my pain. She told me to go into the room and didn't tell me if I should lay down, taking any clothes off etc etc. When I asked her, she told me that i could either leave my shirt on or take it off- whatever was comfortable. So I chose to leave it on and laid down. When she came back in, she said in an irritated tone, "i'm not going to be able to put all the needles in. you should have taken your shirt off." Stunned, I apologized, but didn't know what to do with a bunch of needles in my back. I tried to relax during the treatment and she came several times to check if I was okay (to her credit). After I was dressed, I sat down because I found I got very dizzy after the first treatment. Whereas she was very attentive and helpful the first time around when this happened, the second time she stood around making notes and toying with the ipad she was holding and didn't ask me anything. She disappeared into the back without even saying goodbye. I felt smarted and a bit confused, and decided right there that I wouldn't be going back. It's a shame, I'm sure there are some very nice practitioners there, and I know everyone has bad days (as a healthcare professional myself I can empathize) but I don't feel like the professionalism was there in my experience at BAP that day. I will look around for other acupuncture practitioners in the future. read more

I've been to several different acupuncturists, and decided to try community acupuncture after reading all the positive reviews for Brooklyn Acupuncture Project. During the initial evaluation, the acupuncturist checked my pulse and tongue and asked if I'd be able to come in on a weekly basis to get things moving. I said yes and scheduled a second appointment for one week later. When I came back, she was noticeably rushed - all the chairs were full. She didn't remember me, and didn't even take 10 seconds to review my chart to see what I was there for. It felt like she just haphazardly stuck pins in me, several of which were supposed to treat shoulder muscle tension, which I hadn't ever had done before. It was really uncomfortable, and she didn't check back with me to see how I was doing. The whole session was just rushed and I left feeling more stressed than I had been before the session. I still have several bruises, 10 days later, which I've never had before from acupuncture. The idea of affordable community acupuncture is great, but honestly, I would pay a bit more for a tiny bit more care and attention. read more

My acupuncturist is an angel. As she held my wrists to just assess what was going on with me physically and even emotionally I felt a shift. The funny thing is she told me she felt it before I said anything. Her hands alone were calming and healing. Now that's wonderful and amazing. She then proceeded with the acupuncture. Her face, voice, energy, demeanor...she's just a beautiful soul and I know she wants to help me. I'd make her my best friend if I could :-) After my session I felt so energized and refreshed that I walked home; all 30 blocks! I'm back today for my second session and have booked several more in advance. Consistency is important and I want to try to maintain that. Oh, and the sliding scale is truly a blessing. read more

Two needles in my thumbs up! I am an acupuncture neophyte but my experience here has been wonderful.

My husband woke up this morning with such terrible back ache he could barely get out of bed. I've been asking him to try acupuncture for a while but as most stubborn men he refused until this morning when he realized he had nothing to lose. The moment I got him to agree I ran to yelp for a suggestion and found BAP. I was afraid I would not be able to get same day service but the employee at BAP was very helpful and worked something out with us. We rushed there and it was a pleasant experience from the beginning. Parking was a breeze, the entrance to the building is beautiful, and the moment the elevator door opens at BAP you are greeted with a lovely aroma of incense and helpful staff. My husband and I thought the sliding scale is awesome and allows people with different budgets to pay diffident amounts. My husband says he feels no different but said he'll go again if he finds the time. I'm a believer in acupuncture but I'm not sure I convinced him. I hope by tomorrow he feels somewhat better and we can bump that 4 stars to 5. In the meantime I am exited to try BAP, I've been to some pretty funky acupuncture places and although I've gotten amazing results I still like a clean welcoming experience which you will find here. read more

The group setting is comfortable, although another client next to me was having severe sinus issues and was a bit more noisy than I would have liked. Wonderful place. Lots of light, breezy, pretty, soft music. I've seen Sarah a couple times for an injury and she's great. Depending on how much is going on, she takes a her time with each person and seems very caring. I always leave feeling much better, with an improved sense of well-being. Went to Brooklyn Acupuncture Project for the first time recently and had a wonderful experience! Unfortunately because of a change in train routes I ended up being about 15 minutes late for my appointment but the receptionist was so nice and friendly and was able to get me in to see Jennifer. She was so nice and made me feel comfortable and relaxed as this was my 1st time trying acupuncture. I left feeling calm and centered with less pain in my upper back. I can't recommend them enough. I'm a huge fan of community acupuncture and this place is also that is great with them model. They make a typically expensive intervention accessible to more people. I've gone here for several issues, including menstrual problems, bloating, colds, asthma, and chronic pain. They've been a huge help. I have never seen a place with such class and professionalism like Brooklyn Accupunture Project. I have been going here for quite a few sessions for hot flashes and Ms. Jennifer Becker is excellent ! She takes her time to hear your issues . She is very proffetional and has her knowledge down pack ! She make you feel very comfortable . The place is very clean and you feel the warmth and the relaxation among everyone their. It's a facility with an awesome vibe and positivity ! Keep up the good work ! Beware- if you are running even 10minutes late they can choose to charge you $20. This just happened to me, in my case because my dog literally barfed on my shoes right before I had to walk out of the door and I had to clean them! I know it is their policy but it felt really harsh. I'm in a lot of pain and was looking forward to seeing a caring practitioner. The "sorry this is policy" response I received via the phone made me feel like I was just a number. I don't have much money which was why I was coming to this clinic that offers a sliding scale. I don't think I'll be able to visit BAP after this. read more
