Two days ago, I went in for my first appointment at Garden Acupuncture after a 6 year long absence (health insurance foolery) and I was completely satisfied. Located in a beautiful new location, just blocks from the original, I was treated wonderfully and handled with care. I've developed a bad case of Sciatica over the years and after a half hour session with treatment by Lisa, I was ready for pole dancing and mountain climbing. This is not an exaggeration. The pain volume on my neck and back aches was turned all the way down in one visit. I plan on going as often as possible for proper pain management. My spirits are also lifted. Friendly staff and clean office. They offer acupuncture, cupping and Chinese herbs! I didn't get the herbs since I'm still breastfeeding, but my acupuncture and cupping session went pretty well. The treatment helped me gain mobility back in my lower back, which I injured. Even my husband was surprised how fast I was able to walk the same evening that I got the treatment. It's pricier than the Chinese acupuncturists I'm used to going to in Manhattan, but it's close to home and not too bad if your insurance covers the visit. read more

Perfectly nice people but I paid for a 45 minute appointment and it was around 10 minutes, only 5 in total with the cups on. When I asked for additional cupping on another body part the acupuncturist refused saying "we wouldn't have time" as I needed to be on my stomach for her to access my back. Definitely not worth the $75 for 5 minutes of cupping on one shoulder. The receptionist was super lovely though! read more

There are many options for acupuncture in NYC, ranging from clinical to woo-woo, and Garden Acupuncture strikes a nice balance. Their offices are super clean, comfortable, and high-end: think heated tables, new-agey music, relaxing lighting. They take many insurances and will take care of the billing if they're in-network with your plan, which is huge. The receptionists are really sweet, always have a smile and a nice word, and you can easily make appointments online. I've mostly seen Alex, and he is very competent and effective. He likes to joke around, which is nice, and is good at making you feel relaxed. He also remembers every detail about your life, like where you're about to go on vacation and with whom. Impressive, for someone who sees as many clients as he does! I've also seen Juliet, who is equally competent and very warm and sweet. I always feel like I'm in good hands with whoever treats me here. Garden Acupuncture is a successful, very busy facility, and sometimes their treatments can feel a bit rote. They always ask how you're doing and what you want to work on, but they rarely take my pulse, ask to see my tongue, or other diagnostic procedures I've experienced regularly with other acupuncturists. They also don't do a lot of proactive work with diet and lifestyle. They're happy to answer any questions, but I've worked with other acupuncturists who are much more proactive about being like: "what are you eating? You should eat this instead. Here's a recipe" etc. Overall, Garden Acupuncture is a solid place that treats you right, really seems to care, and goes out of their way to make the experience comfortable and convenient. For years I have been suffering from insomnia, lower back pain from a slipped disc, endometriosis, panic attacks, and an overall high level of stress. I made an appointment online 1.5 week ago as a new patient. Filled all paper work on line, got responses (phone call, text and email) to confirm my appointment. I was impressed and glad this place actually cared about their patients and was efficient. Unfortunately on the same day, I got a phone call that tried to postpone my appointment (7:00 to 7:30) The girl explained and apologized to me the online booking will book two ppl the same time; I happened to be the later one who made the same appointment so I needed to reschedule. Nothing is available for another week, so I decided to comprise for the 30 min delay and changed my dinner plan, because I have been waiting the session for almost 2 weeks. But Guess what?! After all this talk, they couldn't even give me that time slot at 7:30 which was what they originally called me for?!! I did a lot of research and hoped to find a place that I can visit regularly. Perhaps the acupuncturists are great here as reviewed. But this is too sad and unprofessional the way they handle the appointment in my case. I'm not sure if I have confidence to try another appointment. I will try to find another place first. Make sure you call for appointment, not online. read more

I highly recommend Garden Acupuncture. I initially went to Garden Acupuncture to work on relaxing - I was previously an anxious and stressed out New Yorker. After a few sessions, I felt much more relaxed and whole again. Then, in October, I got hit by a car while on my bike. I went back to treat my injuries from the car accident (I fractured my hip, tore my knee, and herniated my lower back). In short, they were amazing. I had been experiencing tightness and soreness (stress) in my neck and shoulders, probably as a result of constantly lifting a 14 month old boy! So I went to see Alex and Lisa for an acupuncture treatment. At my first visit, Lisa suggested that I follow the acupuncture with a Gua Sha treatment. I wasn't familiar with Gua Sha and had only had two prior acupuncture treatments (one to prompt my labor and the other to regulate my contractions). The combination of these treatments left me feeling like an entirely new person! The weight was literally lifted from my shoulders. I was never really a believer in Eastern medicinal practices, but after visiting Garden Acupuncture I'm practically devout! Lisa was an incredible acupuncturist and made me feel so calm and relaxed. I've been trying to quit smoking for years, and although I didn't quit completely, I literally went from a pack a day (20 cigarettes) down to 3 cigarettes a day! It's been 15 years since I've smoked so little, and I feel a 100% better already. Alex also eased me into using the Chines herbs (which they didn't force on me for a second, I was curious) and not only has it been a smoking cessation aid, it's also helped me sleep like a baby! Out of nowhere, I woke up with wicked lower back pain and could barely walk. I'm not a fan of painkillers and am a big believer in acupuncture so I immediately called Garden Acupuncture and they graciously made an appointment for me the very same day. Lisa Metzger did my intake and was caring and a good listener. By the second session the pain was nearly gone but I continued to receive treatment twice a week over the course of about a month. It likely took some time for whatever caused the pain to build up, so I figured it would take some time to heal the root cause. During this time I was treated by Denise Bradbie and Jeff Winsauer. I first started going to Garden Acupuncture about 7 months ago for what I thought was a foot problem. Alex & Lisa promptly and accurately diagnosed that it was really a back problem and started "attacking" it immediately with acupuncture, herbs and cupping. They also referred me to an amazing spine specialist to get a more accurate diagnosis with an MRI because of their belief that some problems can benefit from the mix of both acupuncture and Western medecine. After a few visits and hearing about how much he enjoyed it (knowing I was thinking about wanting to go for my issues), I went in for a consultation. Alex saw me and sat down with me for 90 minutes! He taught me so much about my body, diet and TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) it blew my mind! He asked me to make a few changes in my eating habits, take Chinese herbs and see him twice a week. I came to Garden Acupuncture to try and induce labor naturally as my OBGYN wanted to induce me. All the staff are friendly and helpful and the acupuncturist took time to listen to my history and was very reassuring. The whole experience was pretty relaxing, which was really what I needed at the time! In the end I went into labor in the taxi on the way to my medical induction. I still received a low dose of pitocin but baby was born a mere 5 hours later, with barely any pushing at the end. I was delighted with this clinic. I stopped by out of the blue, while visiting NYC, on the off chance that they might be able to give me some acupuncture on the spot -- and I was in luck! However, things only got better as my session began, when I was introduced to Dr. Winsauer, who proved to be as knowledgeable as he was personable. He not only administered a great, custom acupuncture treatment (literally to a man off the street, as it were), but he passed along some valuable information for me personally, too.
