This is certainly a little gem in Bronzeville area! The hubby and I have been eyeing this restaurant for a few weeks now. I lucked up and was able to book dinner reservations for a Sunday evening. There is a $10 per person deposit charge and a $1 service fee on tock. Free street parking but I am not sure how long that was last. Everything was a hit. We were offered a complimentary sweet potato ribbons and also ordered the hummus as our appetizers. I thought the hummus was interesting but the hubby loved the hummus! The sweet potato ribbons are a great bar snack food. For my dinner I ordered the Gnocchi with seafood and the hubby got the filet mignon. The presentation was amazing. To wash everything down we order two glasses of the sweet white Grutizatamier. I think I spelled it correctly. I realized the restaurant did not remove my $20 deposit after leaving and called back. The manager informed us that they would be adjusting our bill. Also, the bar requires no reservations and is full service. If you lucky you can grab a seat at the bar but it only fits 10-12 people. It didn't look like people were in a rush to go anywhere. There is a 20% gratituty to all bills. read more

I think this one star will have to go to the decor. But even then, they had dead plants. So minus those, the decor was lovely. The restaurant week menu seemed promising. Unfortunately, everything we had is the truest definition of mid. For $60 a person, you'd have high expectations too. They charge 20% automatic gratuity on all checks, which is usually not a problem at all. But when the service we receive is extremely subpar, it doesn't come close to that at ALL. Especially when they serve the wrong orders and bring out undercooked meals and we barely get an apology. It's laughable, really. Win some, lose some - this was definitely an L for our restaurant week experience. Also the music was loud as hell LOL like what are y'all doing... seems like a resounding opinion from the most recent reviews. read more

The ambiance is amazing! From the floor to ceiling windows, wall art, lighting, music, and bar; it's simply beautiful. The food was also good. We tried the cod fritters, salmon, and duck breast. We also had two of their popular cocktails. They were sweet. The wine flights are pretty expensive so we didn't try any. We had an apple pie dessert. They also had a Dj. It was a cool vibe. Our waiter was also cool, but it seemed he had too many tables. We had a long wait for our entrees. We also waited awhile to get our bill. Overall it was a great experience. I will try them again. I didn't take off for the wait times because we could see how busy they were. He was super nice, but overworked. read more

My sorority sisters and I were in Chicago for a conference and we were recommended this spot by another sorority sister who went the night before. We quickly made reservations for the evening (wear pink, spend green, buy Black) was our weekend theme! So glad we went here! The DJ was spinning house music the entire night. The place was buzzing with beautiful Black people in every shade there is. The food, people, ambiance, music and drinks were fantastic!!! I had a Charcuterie board with a wine flight. I was enjoying my food so much that I didn't add pics of everyone's food. But they enjoyed their food as well. I can't wait to get back to the Chi and visit again! read more

Ummmmm, do you know what a winery is? Because there is no wine being made here. Barely a decent wine list.

Thursday 5/29 Went for a dinner event. Nice place, vibe and music. Staff were also nice and professional. However, the manager need training on how to handle a customer question regarding their check/bill. He wasn't courteous yet seemed bothered when asked about gratuity. Tip: Always create a positive customer experience to encourage repeat business. read more

We visited Bronzeville Winery for Sunday brunch. The service was impeccable, everyone friendly, nice and timely. The ambiance inside was chill, modern and chic. However being it was a beautiful day outside we chose to sit outside, they have these beautiful pergolas with flowers and vines making the view all the more pleasant. We went ahead and ordered the food, to our delight nothing disappointed! From chicken and waffles to shrimp and grits, French toast and avocado toast the flavors were spectacular! It's a great chill Sunday brunch with amazing food! Looking forward to revisiting them for dinner, more to come! read more

Very nice and welcoming environment with phenomenal service. Susan (who I think is the owner) came to our table after we wrapped up to say hello and ask us how everything went. She was such a kind and lovely woman. The food was also good, I recommend the chicken and waffles and the baked egg. Cell service was not the best in that area but they have a free guest WiFi. All around solid brunch place. read more

We had a birthday dinner for my girl tonight. It was just us two and she came from the far north side to share this meal with me. I'm so glad the Southside has a high quality restaurant that is accessible with free parking. That's all before you even enter the door. The decor, the music, the staff, is a whole entire vibe. The DJ was doing their thing (no pronouns assumed) and I found myself chair dancing more than twice. The menu is carefully curated and unique for this side of town. We had the Brussels sprouts first. They were full of flavor with the right amount of crunch and crisp. Nothing is worst than soggy Brussels sprout. We also stared with the beet and goat cheese salad. Absolutely delicious!!! For our entree we shared the burger cooked to the perfect medium temperature; it melted in my mouth like butter so rich, tender, and full of flavor. We also shared the cauliflower entree that is a really delectable flavor when you get all of the intended ingredients on your fork. We didn't have dessert because our wine and cocktails were sufficient calories. The Uncle Nearest Yam Old Fashioned was a high quality cocktail and the decor is also a nice treat. Will I return??? Absolutely. I just hope next time they turn the volume of the music down. We chose to eat in silence for 10 min rather than yell at each other across the table. Other than that...an overall A experience (no plus cause my ears are in recovery). read more

If I could give an experience zero stars, I would. I never go out of my way to leave a review or critique an experience but the quality of the food and service was extremely disappointing. I received all of my food cold but only mentioned my main course, the lamb chops to the server -- in which she offered to reheat it. This would change the temperature and consistency of the meat. I declined the reheated option and received repeated pushback to the point where I didn't even want my dish. No other options or offer to speak with management was explored nor an apology for having a poor experience. The term poor experience is honestly an understatement. I would recommend to not dine at this establishment. read more

Great ambiance and very beautiful restaurant. The food was okay. I had the salmon dish which was just ok. I enjoyed the salmon itself because it was very well seasoned and the skin was super crispy. However, the fondue/other components were lacking a lot. That part of the dish was cold and not very enjoyable. I did enjoy the crunch of the parsnips and wish there were some acidity, bitter greens, or another element to cut through the heaviness of the fondue. I got the Jaybird which was tasty and will sneak up on you.The food and drinks came out very quickly. The least enjoyable part of the dining experience was the server. The server made sure to come around frequently which was appreciated. However, the professionalism of the server was questionable. I unfortunately cannot remember the gentleman's name but he was late thirties early forties dressed in street wear and serving towards the back of the restaurant. He was very lax in speaking with the table. It didn't seem on brand for the experience or restaurant. He would over speak and came off imprudent. I even observed other servers to see if it was an act of some sort. The stars were lost because of the server and cold food. I would give it another try and explore other menu items and food services (brunch, happy hour, etc). read more

We had a lovely Friday night date night here. I started with the orange and rose wine flight which was really interesting with a pet nat, two orange wines, and a rose which I loved and I typically don't love roses. Healthy pours too. The food was described as American Japanese comfort food and we had some really great bites. Brussels were crispy with an addicting sesame glaze, fried shrimp were big and juicy, and the vegetarian gnocchi was creamy and delicious. The chicken had some good flavors but was a tad dry. Street side patio was a little windy but pleasant. Our waitress "B" was great. read more

Out for a nice night with my wife at this spot. Nice decor in a vibrant space. We shared a cheese board that could have fed 10 people and was nice with a great blend of flavors and textures. I had some very high expectations going to brunch at Bronzeville Winery. I had heard many positive things about the place from several different people. I had heard that this is one of the southside's must visit restaurants. Needless to say, while my experience there wasn't horrible, my visit didn't meet the lofty expectations. First, the service was middling at best. I was seated and provided water right away. However it took nearly 15 minutes for a server to initially come to my table. I received my not coffee rather quickly and it was of good quality with a nice presentation. However, it took another 30-45 minutes for the server to take my food order. I ordered shrimp and grits with an egg on top and adobo fries. The food took forever to come. I do not recall the amount of time, but it was so long that two people, including my server, came to my table to apologize for the ongoing wait. I noticed that these same two people were going to most of the tables at the restaurant apologizing for the same issues. They told me there was unspecified problem in the kitchen. When the food came, my order was incomplete. They left off egg from shrimp and grits and forget about the adobo fries. I told my server and she eventually brought my fries and two eggs on a small plate. Second, The food is was good, not great. The shrimp and grits were good, but would have better with the fresh eggs on top of it. The adobo fried were good and seasoned well, but this "dish" was just fries with some seasoning on top. The cheesecake I ordered for dessert was also good. The issue is that the food was on par with any other decent, slighty elevated, brunch spot in Chicago, not the stuff of legend that I heard about. It's possible I just went on a bad day or some unforeseen event happened that messed up the service. I noted that while the restaurant was busy, but it was not full and not anymore busy than a typical brunch spot on the weekends in Chicago. In sum, this is still a good brunch spot and worthy of a visit, but the legendary place that I expected. read more

Food seemed like it had great potential. Staff is so disorganized. For a Sunday brunch at 1pm, we thought we had more than enough time for a simple meal and time to get to our 230pm FLW tour. Nope It took 20 minutes to get us seated outside - there were open tables but getting them bussed and set and us seated - oh and menus. Well that is 20 minutes. We listened to the table next to us that ordered options we considered and they were equally frustrated. Challenges from entry to closing the bill. read more

I wanted to like this place so badly. It's been open for almost a year and I've tried it a few times before writing a review because I kept making excuses for the slow service, small portion sizes, and alcoholic beverages that just don't quite hit. My partner and I went tonight for Valentine's Day and unfortunately it left a lot to be desired. Our reservation was for 7:30, we arrived right on time to a line, which let us know they were running a bit behind schedule. We grabbed seats at the bar and were served a complimentary drink for our wait. It was a pomegranate mimosa and was my favorite drink of the night. We were seated after about 10 minutes and our order was taken shortly after. Bronzeville Winery was offering a three course pre fixe menu, every table had the same six options to choose from plus the drink menu. It was a very straight forward menu. We ordered the scallops for appetizers, Walleye and Filet for the entree and a lemon cake for dessert. The scallops were the star of the show, cooked perfectly. I also got seafood on my previous visits. The seafood has consistently been the best part of each meal. When the Walleye and Filet came out, the steak was cold and very tiny. Maybe two ounces of meat. I ordered it medium rare, but it was cooked medium well. I would have sent it back, but there weren't many waiters and they were so busy, I didn't want to wait another 30 mins for a new (small) steak. The walleye was cooked well and all the flavors worked together well, but the over cooked steak was really a bummer. When it was time for dessert is when we started to get frustrated. We were already two hours into our 90 minute reservation and our waiter asked us three different times which dessert we wanted because she kept forgetting. In the end, she still ended up bringing out the wrong thing. I ate mine while my partner waited another 15 minutes for a piece of cake! How!? The flavors of the cake were good, it seemed to have been thawed too quickly/unevenly because the texture was a mushy consistency. We were smart enough to ask for our check while waiting for dessert so we could leave right away when finished. I imagine working Valentines Day in a restaurant is incredibly stressful and busy, the place was full. But I've been other days/nights too and the service has been consistently slow and the portions unexpectedly small, even for fine dining. It's disappointing that almost a year after opening the place hasn't seemed to work out the kinks yet. We'll try again over the summer for happy hour when the patio is open. I say go in with low expectations and just enjoy the playlist/vibe of the place and you'll have an ok night. Update: my partner got food poisoning a few hours after our visit. We ordered the exact same thing, but while my steak was over cooked, his was severely undercooked. So we're thinking it was either that or the fish. read more

Overall, Bronzeville Winery is a decent place to visit. The food is good. However, the service was slow. The server barely checked on us, and we had to chase him down just to order drinks. Speaking of drinks, the wine flights are WAY too expensive here. For instance, a sweet wine flight is 60 bucks for four glasses. That's crazy. I can get an 8 wine flight at Cooper's Hawk, as well as many other Chicagoland wineries, for under 20 bucks. I'd recommend giving this place a try, but the service needs to get better and the wine flights need to be much cheaper than they are. read more

We are Northsiders who like to explore all that Chicago has to offer. My wife took us for Fathers Day to Bronzeville Winery. On a sporadic stretch of Cottage Grove is a fairly new development that you find all over Chicago. Contemporary and visually streamlined. On the ground level are outside tables with verdant plants. Welcome to the winery. The immediate impression of the interior is bright, self-assured, with geometric shapes and volumes holding wine. Soul music interplays with expressive ceiling lamps. The long bar was crowded with customers. We were led to a small table with modern black chairs with movable backs. We were greeted by the hostess who warmly welcomed us. From our table we could see a purpose built DJ station with vinyl album covers. We then waited, and waited and waited for service. Finally a server came and apologized. We ordered a wine and a cocktail and took in the music, which was excellent but a tad too loud. We ordered the Shrimp & Grits, Shirred Baked Egg, Bacon and Roasted Potatoes. We waited a reasonable amount of time and the food arrived. The presentation was good and the flavors were even better. We ordered some coffee which was also very good. Overall, after a shaky start, the restaurant redeemed itself. Service needs to be improved and the music should be slightly lower to enhance a conversation, not complete with it. We plan to go and see the music evenings and try their dinner menu. It is worth a visit and is a good addition to the growing Bronzeville restaurant scene. read more

Went here for drinks with a friend. They had a live band performing this night so that was cool! Drink selection was nice, I went with the Lolli lemon drop (I think that was the name) and it was really good. Also tried out an orange wine for the first time. The service was a bit slow to start, took about 20 minutes to get water, but once we we're acknowledged by our super sweet and apologetic waitress, the rest of the evening went smooth. I only tried the Brussels sprouts to eat because because I saw the word crispy along with a blood orange glaze that I was excited for, but unfortunately I wasn't a fan . So Maybe I'll try other menu items next time, but I'll definitely be back for that lemon drop! read more

Service: the staff here is fantastic. Incredibly welcoming when you walk in, our waitress was friendly and helpful with recommendations and wine descriptions. Food: we ordered the Seared Watermelon Steak, BW Burger, and Salmon. All items had a great presentation and wonderful flavors. I've been dying to try this place since it opened but I definitely will be sticking to Cooper's Hawk. Beautiful bar when you walk in and nice decor all around. While the staff was super friendly, the service was subpar. We had to ask for biscuits 5 times, by the time we got them we were done with our food. The salmon didn't have a L I C K of seasoning on it, how are you a black owned restaurant and you're not seasoning salmon?!? The reason for two stars instead of one, is those sweet potatoes!!! They were to die for. If I would've gotten a plate full for those I probably would've been happier. The sweet red was also good. Save your money. read more

Bronzeville Winery is a great addition to the Bronzeville area! We visited on a Saturday night and had a reservation. We were seated with 10 minutes, so not too long of a wait. The ambiance overall was really lovely and the crowd was lively. Our waitress was great, provided us with recommendations and made sure we consistently had everything we needed. I ordered the seafood gnocchi and LOVED it. The flavor profile was immaculate and wonderfully put together. I hope this stays on the menu for a while. My fiancé on the other hand didn't care too much for his steak frites. Unfortunately, the steak wasn't cooked to his liking and the fries were cold. The drinks were delicious and the desert was even better. There is street parking but we decided to go with valet because most of the street parking was taken. 5 STARS for ambiance, staff, and drink menu. I finally, FINALLY went last night to check out this very special place. Black owned, black chef (I think), black sommelier. All in the heart of, of course Bronzeville. There were small plates which had a pretty good selection, salads also pretty good my mom's Caesar came out and it was full of dressing I'm not sure about everyone else but I don't like a wet Caesar salad or any salad really to be soggy (again just my opinion). We ordered the shrimp it was fire, I would customize it and add more of that orange sauce, the seafood gnocchi, duck breasts, and the salmon. The seafood gnocchi tasted great to me it's a creamy dish with shrimp, scallops, they also offer a vegetarian option as well. The duck breast came out just like that, literally just meat there was nothing else. For the price I'm surprised it didn't have anything else on it, they do not have sides a la carte. My salmon, BEAUTIFUL everything is perfectly plated, it was very filling and tasted great. They asked me how I wanted the salmon cooked and I was surprised because I have never been asked that in a restaurant before. I really wanted to try their watermelon steak (the dish that they are known for) but was craving fish. Live music, on Sunday's the singer started playing for maybe 30-45 minutes at least that's what it felt like pretty short. A really nice playlist started shortly after. There are DJ sets on Saturday. I recommend following their instagram and signing up for their newsletter. The restaurant is GORGEOUS there are so many pieces of art, wine bottles on the wall, photos of people, the light fixtures are incredible. Very romantic setting - there is also a patio as well. Side street parking is available, reservations required through Tock ($10/pp) and the gratuity is automatically included. Feel free to leave an additional tip. Overall, I thought the cocktail and wine list was very nice. I would love to come back during happy hour and to try that steak! I will note that it's probably not best for kids, no kid's menu, I made the mistake of bringing my 10 year old son, this location is for the grown and sexy! My baby girl on the other hand had a blast. Thank You!! read more

I came here for a private event and enjoyed myself. It's nice to see an upscale winery like this in the Bronzeville community. The venue itself is very cool, and the service was exceptional at every touchpoint. There were passed appetizers, which were all great: highlights for me included the cod balls and the bread pudding dessert: so good! We participated in a wine tasting, which was good but kind of long, and the sommelier was very knowledgeable but talked a lot. For a 90-minute holiday gathering with colleagues, nearly 60 minutes was devoted to the wine tasting, and because the sommelier talked so much, there wasn't a lot of time to socialize with one another, which is kind of the point of these things. I think the winery team should consider the type of event they are hosting and adjust the style of the tasting accordingly. As for the wine, two out of the three wines we tasted were great. Everyone pretty much thought the third one was a major dud. My only other suggestion is to remove the nonfunctional locks on the bathrooms as they cause confusion and people try sliding the doors open when the restrooms are occupied: if you use the restroom, you will understand what I mean. Despite a couple of hiccups, I liked this place and plan to return. read more

Super excited to write a review for this new Bronzeville gem! I believe they are black owned. Location is up and coming with tons of parking available. Pro tip: either schedule a reservation ($10 fee toward the bill) or add yourself on their waitlist 30-60mims prior to coming because they are busy. Atmosphere: The vibes were vibing! Outside, they have lounge chairs and several tables for patio seating. Inside they have bar seating or tables. We came on a Thursday night around 8 and the DJ was playing a R&B/jazzy playlist that I loved! 5/5 Service: the hostess was super nice. Even after adding ourselves on the waitlist 30mins before getting there, there was still another 30min wait. The hostess hooked us up in under 15mins which we appreciated. Our server took a little while to give us our drinks and to take our order but after his first appearance her was very accommodating so no hard feelings. 4/5 Drinks/Food: Of course we had to try the wine at a winery! We decided on the wine flight, which came with two reds (a blend and dry), a rose, and a chardonnay. My fav was the reds! I went with the seafood gnocchi which was so rich and amazing! My bf had the burger and fries and thought the patty was well cooked/seasoned. They have a pretty good cocktail list as well. 4/5 Overall great place away from all the hustle and bustle from downtown. Will def be back to try their patio sections and a cocktail. read more
