Going to the wine and facility, their juices are really good, they are medium plus in body including their Merlot, plenty of tannins and clearly a long living product. The place is small, it was raining so we couldn't explore the surroundings, but inside in the cave it's very cold and intimate, quite a unique tasting experience. After we finished we had a chat with David himself and few hours later he was helping me to take the car out of a ditch... There are others, but here we will focus on the incredible work of Heidi Peterson-Barrett (HPB). After years of making wine for many wineries, HPB came out with her own label "La Sirena." She also has the Barrett & Barrett label that she shares with her husband Bo from Chateau Montelena. Very conveniently located right off of Foothill Road in Calistoga, you come into to a small lot and walk just a few feet to the tasting room. The facility is way more than just a tasting room... it's a beautiful art gallery of Heidi's amazing work. Paintings and sculptures. All of her wines are on display behind the counter, a very impressive display. Without getting too detailed because I can make this review go on for pages, I will say that everything we drank was incredible. But it's HPB wines would you expect anyting different? We were guided throuh our tasting by Katie. She was such an amazing person and really added to this great experience. Here is a sample of the wines we tried. - La Sirena Moscato Azul - La Sirena Santa Ynez Syrah - La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon - Barrett & Barrett Cabernet Sauvignon EVERYTHING was magnificent. There is a reason why HPB is a legend in Napa. I am looking forward to a return trip which will happen soon. We also joined their wine club to get an annual sampling of this great wine. If you're coming to town, make sure you make a reservation and visit La Sirena. The place is special. even the views out the very tall windows are simply amazing. Besides the great wines, the star of our visit was Greta, the vineyard's little dog that wandered around the premises and befriended everyone in our group. The winery was super organized with glasses poured and order forms ready for us. Our host was Courtney and she was terrific as she gave us the back story of the vineyard, walked us through the wine barrels and tanks, and described the three wines we sampled: A 2020 Sparkling Blanc de Blanc (my favorite) A 2022 Zinfadel A 2023 Zinfadel Port Mayo has a wonderful outdoor seating area filled with wood picnic tables and chairs. It was the perfect place to enjoy our wine and play with their cute little dog. Thank you Mayo Family winery for a terrific visit.

It's primarily a Swiss varietal, but a little is grown in Sonoma County making it unique to this area. This was our third visit and JV poured for us. He was delightful and knowledgeable about the wines here, and in the region, providing insight on other wineries that he thought we and our palates might enjoy. We especially enjoy Mayo's red wines, and as usual we left with bottles to add to our home cellar. They don't have food, but you're welcome to bring your own munchies/picnic. They're dog and family friendly, and they welcome walk-ins. TIP: They're open later than many wineries (6:30pm), which is a plus for us, as we can sneak in a late afternoon tasting before dinner. I highly recommend that you stop in and visit this cozy winery, and experience their wonderful wines, fabulous customer service, and rustic tasting room and patio.
