NIGHTMARE! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I was told by Ron he had "50+ years in the business" and " KNEW EXACTLY what they were doing". He made me feel like it was going to be studio quality cellulose insulation that would make a big difference in the hollow walls of this old building. AS A RESULT, I agreed. I UPENDED my ENTIRE LIFE prepping my environment for 3 DAYS! Moving everything in a bedroom and living room (all electronics disconnected) - to the center of the room, covering it all with plastic taped to the floor - plus hanging plastic on every window, door Heater, AC, blocking the hallway and office area with plastic taped ceiling to floor! Then arranging for pets and myself for what I was told would be a roughly "4 hour job". NOT THE CASE. The moment the job was booked Ron did not call back to answer my questions, only the scheduler did. When the 2 guys showed up they didn't speak much english at all and when I explained that in 1 room there was fiber board OVER the Cement wall and they had to drill THROUGH BOTH - they didn't seem to understand. They arrived at 8:30am, saying, "the hose would not reach", (this is something I had gone over at least 5 times to make ABSOLUTE SURE the hose could in fact go this distance and still get the product firmly in EVERY SPACE - once they actually tried it did in fact reach so - I left. They started at about 9:15am. I asked the workers to PLEASE call when they finished so I could make sure my spackle worker could be there before they left. They texted at 10:35 !! BARELY AN HOUR THERE. They claimed there was insulation in 2 of the walls that needed to be treated. HUH? They didn't KNOW that first? EXPERTS? Whats worse is they messed up which wall had the fiber board on it. When I got back the area was patched by my other worker and you can still hear the neighbor clanking a fork on a plate, coughing, talking etc - and the noise is the worst in the CRITICAL Office Space that the sound proofing was MOST needed. I am having a hard time believing they blew much into this 1 wall that they claim they did. Keep in mind Cutting 27 holes, effectively blowing in every empty space, and also having cut 4 other holes in the 2 walls they claimed they could not do - and they did that in 1 hour and 15 minutes??. Plus left before my worker could get there which left us scrambling to deal with Keys? THIS IS NOT A JOB THEY CAN FIX BECAUSE THAT KIND OF PREP IS A MONSTROUS, BACK BREAKING JOB THAT CAN NOT BE RE-DONE. NEVER - NEVER - NEVER use this company!!! NEVER !! Unless you stay and watch every hole they drill - observe what is actually going on and witness yourself what is inside that wall - because they have NO Idea going in and do nothing ahead to be sure of what is needed, all while they assure you that they ARE SURE and ARE the consummate experts) - YOU WILL NOT BE HAPPY. I do not believe they should have been paid. Sorry - They should be paying me for 2 lost days of work. THIS IS not just disappointing - it is INFURIATING!! Took 3 days to complete a job. Was told it would be completed in 1 day, but they completely screwed up the order. To make matters worse they left all sorts of staples and nails all over my garage and driveway where my kids could step on them and get hurt, and my tires could run over them and get damaged. As a general contractor, I have used Broken Drum Insulation for many many years. I would estimate that they have insulated at least 100 projects for me and my company. I have always been very happy with their level of service. Their prices are also extremely fair for the work and they care more about long-term relationships than they do about making it all on one customer. I would not recommend broken drum insulation. Although Chip and Bob Wood were accommodating and courteous, One of the main reasons for this review is because of the treatment, miscommunication, and rudeness of the main intake secretary named, Beverly. She was very belligerent, not listening to our concerns, and miscommunicated much of the scope of work to the insulators. I'm not sure why a company would keep someone that who so detrimental to a companies business--it was utterly painful to speak with her as she argued, spoke over me, and even mocked me. She is very untrained (and unwilling to learn) in the area of customer service. I would not use this company just because of her alone. Normally I would not point out every single flaw of any companies's work . But after the unacceptable treatment of the intake secretary Beverly, I will do so After insulating our house at the particular places that they were contracted to do, they had to come back more than once to fix what they missed. They even tried to insulate using old insulation we had in our garage that we bought a while ago from Home Depot to put in one of the walls that they missed. Also they missed several areas in our attic as well. There are much better and more proficient insulation companies to use. I would never recommend them to anyone. Just had the guys from Broken Drum come to our house for a blow - in insulation of our attic. When I inspected the area as they were about to leave, I found out that they had not straighten the old bats back into the bays before blowing the new material in, giving us different R values within each bay and making the attic look like the matterhorn. Since the crew refused to go back and fix the mess,I had to call the owner Chip, who explained what needed to be done to his crew over the phone. When I asked why they did not care about the old insulation bats before blowing, he said it was not mentioned on the workorder. Thank god that I was there to inspect - now they have to fix it. Chip is a gem. The person answering the phone named Beverly is not. They should have someone else answer the phone, since that's your first impression of the company - who has good customer service. If you hear someone on the other line who is sulky and not amiable, then that will give you second thoughts in hiring the company. She asked a lot of questions about what I need, but then when I say the answer, she'd correct me in a very condescending voice, as if I'm stupid not to know the difference between insulation types. If you can get pass the initial impression of the office reception, then you could hire them. As I have said, Chip is excellent. He would answer any concerns or questions you have. They are very nice and accommodating, and in the end, did a good job. they were neat, and professional also. The only issue I had was that upon inspection of their work, I noticed that they had only cut holes across the bottom half of the wall, and missed some areas on the upper half. I asked them to cut more holes and do the top half of the wall. They were very cooperative and finished the job to my satisfaction. They ended up doing a great job, BUT anytime you use a contractor, it is very important to inspect the work yourself, and ask questions if something doesn't seem right. What makes a good contractor is one that is cooperative, and willing to fix their work if the customer is not happy, and in the end, does an excellent job. read more

DAY 1: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, The worst experience I've ever had working with a vender of any kind. The day these people came into our home my wife was nine months pregnant. Bob, the guy who showed up to do the job started by backing his truck into our house doing damage to the fascia board, roof and paint. I than asked Bob to remove a small amount of old insulation that remained in the attic by placing it in a plastic bag and take it outside. Bob proceed to walk back and forth though our house with the disgusting toxic old insulation. I asked him repeatedly to not do this and to put something down on the floors, my requests were ignored. The sixth time I told Bob to clean up the giant mess that he had made in our home he became aggressive and physically entered my personal space with his fists clinched, screaming and cussing at me. This happened in a very close proximity to my wife who (again) was nine month pregnant. I made it clear he should leave. I than got on the phone with Ron (the manager?) Who rushed over to our house and insisted that he would pay to fix the damage to the house, clean up the mess made from the insulation all over the house, and finish the job. Additionally he said Bob would no longer have a job at their company (I'm sure he's still working there, BEWARE). Later that day my wife and I turned the AC on as it was getting hot and sure enough the worker who was up in the adic disrespected our home as well by detaching our brand new air-duct by kicking it as he was crawling around. Consequently, the air-duct filled with the new fiberglass insulation and blew it all over our baby nursery, our bed room and our living room. Of course Ron pledged to fix our air-ducts as well. Overall we felt violated by Broken Drum Insulation and the disrespectful people they employ. DAY 2: The day Broken Drum came back Ron (the manager?) showed up with a different crew to finish the job and repair the hole in our air-duct. No longer trusting the quality of work being provided I ask Ron on three different occasions to have the new crew check the work of the first crew to make sure the job was properly done. I was most concerned with the space over our back bed room where we sleep and would soon be bringing new babies home from the hospital to sleep. He told me he would take care of everything but never did. Additionally, I had to get up in the attic and find the hole in the air-duct and stand over the workers to make them fix it. AFTER TWO OR THREE MONTHS: After bringing our babies home from the hospital we experienced a major heatwave here in the SFV. It's been over 100 degrees for weeks. For some reason we can't cool our room down. Our house easily cools to 75 degrees but we can't get our room below 85-90 degrees. Upon feeling the walls and ceiling I discover half way across our room the temp on the ceiling abruptly changed from very cool to extremely HOT to the touch. It's clear to me that Broken Drum Insulation not only sent a person who disrespected my home but someone who is incompetent and didn't do his job. Ron who I asked repeatedly to double check the work is now telling me That Broken Drum will not finish the job properly. He said the workers (who has been disrespectful and damaged our home) told him they did the job right. Affordable, fast, and professional. I had the team upgrade my home insulation this month and it made SUCH a difference. If you're a woman like me you might have noticed the grotesque "pink tax" lately where male contractors are adding a few extra thousand to quotes, believing that you are stupid and uninformed. Broken Drum's owner was a welcome relief. He came to my home and actually took the time to measure the space, explain what was present and what the current codes were, and gave me a very fair price. The team he sent was experienced, on time, and did the full installation in under two hours of time. Every since they did the installation I've noticed that my heater doesn't need to run as much and that the house is more uniform in temperature throughout. Back in July 2012, I left a glowing report about Broken Drum. Since that time, my cans lights apparently have been overheating & then they shut off until they cool down. They did not put protective collars around the openings so that the area around the lights was kept clear & the lights wouldn't overheat. They have been out twice to try to fix the problem, but there has been zero change. I'm afraid that someday, when we try to sell our house, this may be an issue. Broken Drum Insulation was a joy to work with. Ron came out and gave me an estimate on the price for blown in insulation (which turned out to be cheaper than if I bought roll insulation from Home Depot, and me doing all the labor). He then proceeded to inform me of SoCal Gas's incentive policy ($.15 per sq ft) as well as tax incentives. They came within an hour of when they were supposed to and finished in half an hour. My experience with Broken Drum was a good one. Chip took his time, looked over the job, and explained all the options. Although I was pretty sure I wanted the old insulation removed, BD nonetheless provided me with two options (leave it, add more OR remove it and replace) in the proposal. This was thoughtful (budget considerations) and smart (customer makes the choice). I had also inquired about blow-in wall insulation. They suggested I do thing in steps, warning that the wall insulation project would be a little messy, and would leave holes. They were right - the R30 in the roof gave me the improvement I needed. I respect that they didn't just do the additional work to get the additional money. The project turned out to be more involved than any of us thought, owing to debris left in the attic from removal of wood shake 30+ years ago. they switched gears, brought workmen to the site, and did the extra work to get the job done to spec. I work in the Safety field, so I watched the guys like a hawk to make sure they wore appropriate clothing and dust masks. They were doing the right thing every time I checked. read more

these guys came out for a blow insulation in my walls. their work was effecient and quick, but the customer service at this place blows. The girl in the office is a drip and rude as can be. When it was all done I asked Ron the salesman if I needed anything from them for my rebate from the gas co.. He claimed he didn't know anything about rebates or the certificate I need from them to turn into the gas co. for my rebate. C'mon. Either these guys aren't very smart or they just don't care. Also they dont clean up after themselves. I had to go around and pick up about 100 drilled out peices of stucco. If there customer service was better and gave there customers a little more attention and RESPECT I might of thought of giving their card to my neighbor. read more
