Given the lack of quality bagels in Chicago (sorry but it's the truth), Brobagel's bagels are actually really good. Nicely made and delicious cream cheese. Have had their BEC and love it. Bagels are very good and staff there is very good at taking my order and getting it right. Only reason I'm leaving three stars is because last time I went there it looked like they were having a staff meeting. I don't think they should be having these where clients are placing orders to start off. The lady who was directing the meeting sounded very mean, not sure if she is the manager idk. Honestly that place sounds terrible to work for. Maybe next time do meetings after hours or don't be so rude. She mentioned the phrase "you will get fired" so many times. This place used to be my favorite local bagel shop but has gone down hill since. My boyfriend and I went to pick up 2 regular bagels and cream cheese. After 30minutes of waiting, we asked them what was going on. They said it will be another 20min. We then asked for a refund and they then decided to grab our bagels. Overall it took 50min to get two untoasted bagels. When we got home, they were stale. We ended up throwing them out and just going elsewhere to grab breakfast. Huge disappointment. read more

I've been twice while I was around in Wicker Park. Their bagels are pricier than Einstein but it makes sense considering it's a unique establishment. I enjoyed trying their BLT bagel and the everything bagel. I thought my bagel was a little tough and not enough filling. I wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had but I think it's decent to satisfy my morning bagel cravings. Looking forward to try the different cream cheeses. The decor is very hip type of establishment with exposed brick and exposed vents but I feel like its lost its touch since tons of restaurants look exactly the same in Wicker Park. read more

Coming back to share that the last couple of experiences I've had at Brobagel have been much better - so much so that I think I'll definitely come back more than once a year. The spreads are better than the bagels so if you're really smart, you could buy your spreads here and your bagels at Stan's (who carry New York Bagel and Bialy bagels from Lincolnwood, fresh every morning). The service I've gotten here has not been great which is the one reason I am hesitant to bump it up to five stars but the bagels and the spreads are much much better than they were when they opened in the fall of 2014. read more

It was A-OK. I'm an old school Jewish deli kind of gal, and living on the North Shore I'm spoiled a bit by my selection of bagels. This was my first visit to Brobagel after my hipster stop to grab some Docs for my stepdaughter. I decided to keep the hipster vibe at an all time high, and coming here for a Brobagel Club with: Turkey, bacon, avocado, and a garlic spread of some sort ($8) hit the spot. Cruchy baked bagel on the outside and chewy on the inside, my sammie was worth the chaos. The scene here is young and artsy, and packed and crowded - I mean really packed. Like Brittany S suggests, it's not a great choice for those who are claustrophobic... like I am. Though it was crazy, there was a guy taking orders at the door and it took only about six minutes to call our name. Very organized. No drama. I really want to love this place because there are no other bagel options in the neighborhood. But no matter how many times I try it's just mediocre at best. Great toppings, good cream cheese. But the core, the bagels are just not standout. The main issue is they have no idea how to toast them. They toast the outside so they're hard to the bite and then the inside is this soft mess. I asked if they can toast the inside and not out (as it should be) and they said they can't cause it will burn. Really, I've been to a million places that have toasting machines and I've never seen an inside of a bagel burst into flames. Anyway, they need to figure out the bagel. 4 stars because I am a fan of any bagels in Wicker Park, but this review is really meant for feedback. Hopefully the Bros at BroBagel are paying attention! It's all about trying your product and fixing the DETAILS. I've been here three times and each time I am confused or frustrated with some detail that seems to be overlooked. I'll focus on the biggies... 1) Coffee supplies need big improvement. The plastic short straws do not reach the bottom of the cup; order the wooden long sticks instead. I was walking out this morning and noticed coffee dripping out of my cup. Later in my car, I picked up the coffee, the top easily popped off, and HOT COFFEE SPILLED EVERYWHERE. We're talking a McDonald's situation ya'll. I intently pressed down thinking I hadn't secured the top, and then IT HAPPENED AGAIN. The problem? The coffee tops do not properly fit on the coffee cups. This needs fixing pronto because no one likes spilled coffee for their "commuter special". 2) Learn to get a proper toast. I have not seen toasted bread (browning on top) in three visits. When I asked for "extra toasted" it just came out more baked and almost stale tasting. Someone needs to adjust the height from bagel to heating element to actually toast the bagels. This is bagel 101. 3) Think through the layout. I work for a product development company and we always test the products ourselves to see what the customer will experience. The coffee straws are not right next to a trash can. The napkins are in a weird spot you wouldn't expect. The drinks are in the back, not by the registers. Even from an employee perspective, the shorter employees can't reach the upper baskets easily and the deep baskets are taking up so much room, it's difficult for employees to pass each other back there. It's kind of a clusterf*ck of a space. Come on guys, let's get the basics down so BroBagel can be a lean, mean bagel machine! I'm rooting for you. read more

This bagel shop is much less douchy now that I know that it's a bagel shop OWNED by brothers, rather than geared towards "bros". It's a cute little setup, and the service was very good. Bagels are a tricky subject. Everybody has their preferences, and there are so many different styles. These tended to be a little less squishy on the inside than I like, but it had a nice crunch on the outside, and there was still a decent chew to the inside. I got the Lox bagel on everything, and the ingredients tasted fresh and yummy. The everything bagel had great flavors: nice salt crystals, and great strong garlic/onion-yness that will leave me unkissable for hours. The size of the bagel itself is a little on the small side, especially since it was $19 for two (granted I rather pay a little more and have NOT-gross fish on my bagel). They have some really interesting cream cheese flavors including Caramelized Onion, Garlic Confit, Sriracha, Strawberry, Walnut & Raisin, and Whipped Tofu. They also have daily specials. Obviously they're focusing on the bagels, but their non bagel options were a little limited. They had chips, but only one flavor, they had coffee but no tea. Their drink selection in general was a little lacking. They had three types of soups made daily, which sounded good, if I go back I'll update with how those are. I was right on the cusp between three and four stars. I think if they upped their accompaniment game (drinks, chips, etc.) I would have given an extra star. I also think if the bagels were a bit bigger they would have cooked more to my liking (more chewy in the middle!). Overall tasty though and would go back. read more

I checked out BroBagel on their opening day, around 7:45. I expected to find a line, given that it was opening day and that is peak commuter time, but found only a guy buying some bagels for his office. Pros: - Boiled bagels are hard to find in Chicago. Brobagel does them well. I tried the rye one and the raisin bran. Both were tasty. - Strawberry cream cheese was excellent. It had a very real flavor to it and had a few pieces of strawberry within it. - Wait staff were friendly. Cons: - There is no seating inside or outside. I ended up walking several blocks to find a bench on which to eat my bagel. Especially since they're toasted, it would be nice to eat it hot someplace. - Veggie cream cheese was lacking in flavor. It had a lot of veggies, but appeared to be unseasoned. I tasted a lot of carrot, but not much else. - I had to repeat my order several times. Twice to the counter staff making my bagel and then to the guy at the register who needed to know my precise bagel, despite the fact they all cost the same. That may make sense if there were any other customers, but we were the only people in the store. - Finally, prices are on the higher end. It was about $3 a bagel after tax. Not bad, but the quality wasn't there to justify the cost. All in all, a good addition to the neighborhood but not something to go out of your way to find. read more

Y'all are being really picky here. It's a counter-service bagel shop. It was pretty self-explanatory... walk through the door, order by the guy standing in front of the bagels, pay at the girl standing in front of the cash register, turn around and pour self-serve coffee. Exactly as a reasonable human being would expect. Bagel was decent and lightly toasted, as requested. Lox spread was tasty. Coffee wasn't my cup of... coffee... but to each her own. This place has painfully slow service. A bagel shop is supposed to be a quick grab-and-go model. Not here. I waited for 45 minutes for 2 breakfast sandwiches. What's more confusing is they weren't even all that busy. I walked right up to the girl taking orders, no line. About 25-30 minutes in I had to remind them twice how long we had been waiting and how we had watched people who ordered after us, often with the same sandwich, come and go. The worst part is that it wasn't just us - There was another girl who had this same experience, and said she had been there for an hour. They promised her that they'd get her order out right away, as they had done to us, and she had to wait another 15 minutes! I think it comes down to the staff. A small but important detail representative of a larger problem - The girl taking orders got my name wrong, after I repeated it twice and spelled it for her. She put me down as "Rick H"... I literally spelled it for her as she wrote it down. It's a simple name. I've been 4 times and each time I leave even more confused at how they take a simple concept and execute it so horribly. Love going to BroBagel on Saturday mornings after a (slow) walk in the neighborhood. They have a great variety of bagels and bagel sandwiches and a good combination of unique and classic cream cheeses. They seem to always have a special sandwich and also a special cream cheese. I am a boring member the bagel club and order a simple sesame bagel with plain cream cheese each time. BroBagel does even the simple well! My husband always orders some huge sandwich with fancy things on it (usually including some sort of hot sauce) and his orders always turn out great too. I will say that I feel like I need to try the garlic bagel with sriracha cream cheese since it has such high bagel world honors. Great neighborhood place. read more

The suggested daily bagel was Nutella-Honey spread with banana on a salt bagel - I got that sans banana and the contrast was quite delicious and I also got The Mozz for lunch. I'll totally bro out with you Bro Bagel. In terms of what I actually order they would get 5 stars: Garlic bagel with sriracha cream cheese or everything bagel with scallion. The sriracha cream cheese is the real deal; love me some spiciness in the morning. Now I do have to take away a star for two reasons: 1- The line is usually pretty bad, and I wouldn't say this place is a "well oiled machine", so that can be annoying. 2- The price is a hair steep for a bagel and cream cheese. I agree with other reviews that for a bagel place it for some reason is not a quick trip and there's not much room to wait inside when it's cold. The bagels are always fresh and the cream cheeses are made in house and yummy. While we are so excited to have quality bagels in the neighborhood, I'm sad to say that the wait is downright painful. Two days in a row and the experience was the same...placed my order for two uncut bagels and then waited 25 minutes to receive this basic, standard order. The ordering system at Bro Bagel is such that you wait in line, place your order with someone who then places your request at the end of the line, regardless of the complexity of said order. Two uncut bagels is treated with the same level of complexity as 1 sandwich, 10 sandwiches or a bakers dozen. Then, you wait (likely on the skinny, filthy north ave sidewalk, as the inside is too small to accommodate those who are waiting to order and those who are waiting to receive their order). 25 minutes seems to be the standard wait time, based on my three weekend visits here. Let me repeat for a third time...I waited twenty-five minutes for 2 bagels. Perhaps if the ordering system was more efficient, this would not be the case. After the initial order and separate payment process I waited literally 15 minutes (for a bagel shop) while holding my one-year old child in my arms. I had to be asked what I ordered four separate times. I don't understand how that became so confusing for everyone. They wrote it down somewhere! This is all within a 150-sqft space. On another occasion, I ordered straight-up bagels to go, with a separate already prepared cream cheese container. I had to wait 10 minutes behind sandwich orders for an employee to grab 4 bagels from a bin and put them in a bag. I've been here a few times with nothing but good experiences. The bagels are great - they're thick, salty, crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. My go-to combo is the garlic bagel with sriracha cream cheese. Minus one star for the mediocre coffee (the iced coffee tastes extremely watered down) and fairly high prices, but those won't stop me from coming back. It gets PACKED on the weekends and there is very little space in there to do anything but stand, so go on a weekday if you can.
