I chose Sharon because when I called to book the appointment, I was told she has the most experience with newbies and old people (Haha! YES, I'm an old person, Gen-Xer here. I told them I needed an instructor who had patience). Sharon was great with explaining a few key tips and showed me the E, F and G keys. It was a helpful lesson, I did learn some new things and before I left the lesson area she gave me a printout of the notes to practice then walked me to the front. I'm an adult learner and started learning Piano, in the little time I have outside of work, with the Alfred's series. Roxanne structured the classes beautifully to fit alongside the series that I was already following and then extending the periphery with music theory, ear training and practicing songs that I wanted to learn. In the little time, I've started my classes with Roxanne - I can construct scales and write small songs on my own - this in little over two months. I can't wait for my toddler to join the class as soon as he's 3(he's a little over 2 now). I highly recommend Roxanne to young and adult learners alike. She's thorough, professional and an excellent teacher.

Been meaning to write this review for awhile…read more This place is awful. We signed our seven year old up for ukulele lessons and he was so excited! We got a teacher that honestly just sucked. We had signed up and prepaid for thirty minute lessons once a week. Not only was he flakey, but when he didn't postpone our lessons, he was mostly late to them. He didn't make up the time at the end of the lesson, but often also cut the lesson short. If it wasn't one or the other, it was both. He also consistently came unprepared. Spent a large portion of the lesson printing out sheet music. Why hadn't he done that previously? I couldn't tell you. Then he would chat with our son asking HIM to choose the music. Our son just wanted to learn, he didn't care what they played. And even when he did select something, the teacher would then spend the remainder of their time attempting to search for and transcribe the music. We attempted to reach out to the owner several times. Our names and number were taken each time, usually without a call back. When we did get calls back, it was from the manager or from a woman who could have also been a manager, both of whom were very rude. When I finally spoke to the owner, he seemed to want to be proactive about it. Offered to compensate us for several lessons that we either never received or that were only given partially due to tardiness or incompetence. He also switched us to a different teacher. Apparently we weren't the only ones with complaints about the other guy, so they fired him. The new teacher, Alex, is probably the only person who provided a positive experience for us at this place. I wish he'd just do lessons on his own as we would never recommend anyone go through this place. In the end, we never saw a penny of a refund. No lessons up ended up being credited as promised. And worst of all, they tried to claim we owed them money. For what, you ask? Lessons that were never given while they claimed to be "working all of this out". If I could give this place zero stars, I would. You're better off learning an instrument from your family friend or your dad with mediocre guitar skills from his high school garage band days than you would be at this place.

He has since sold the shop, but the new owner is a really personable dude. Houser's offers a nice selection of guitars, fiddles, mandolins, banjos, accordians, etc and all the accouterments to go with them. They seem to cater to folk and acoustic instruments, but would be welcome and helpful to every musician. They sell both new and used items, and also rent some instruments. They also house a Bluegrass Camp yearly (second annual now in 2011). I'm very much looking forward to this event in early August. It's a little gem of Oroville, as lots of shops there are.

So I Went up to housers music in Oroville Ca And talked to the great staff there they really explained about the guitars I was looking at. And walked out with the guitar I wanted at a very good price. and it came with a hard case. Now I'm taking lessions from Brett who is awesome guitarist and teacher. This is really the same store as Broadway Pawn... note the same address…read more They have quite a few band instruments and student violins to the left of the jewelry cases in the center of the store. The lady running the band and violin side is a saxophone player herself. The violins are mostly for beginners, but they occasionally get something nicer in. The prices on the violin side seem more reasonable than on the guitar side. Last I looked, their violin supplies were somewhat limited- just Super-Sensitive rosin and strings. Parking is street parking is a busy section of downtown Chico... there may be some spaces around the downtown park nearby though if there isn't an event happening there. Sometimes it's easier to park on Salem on the other side of the block. Out of towners remember that Broadway is a one-way street! One thing that annoys me about this place... they close pretty early on weekdays, (five-ish) and are totally closed on weekends.
