There is only street parking but there aren't meters. When I walked up to the store I noticed it was locked....which at first I was shocked because it was 30 minutes after their store opening time. I peeked through the window and a worked came and greeted me and said it was open. (In hindsight when I went to leave the store I had trouble with the doorknob so maybe it wasn't locked at all and I didn't know how to open the door) lol The book selection is great and most of the books are primarily in Spanish, not too many bilingual books which I was avoiding. The employee was very helpful and pointed me in the direction of the types of books I was looking for. They even have a 40% discount table on some books. Prices aren't bad, average is about $15 a book for the younger board books, pop-ups which is what I went to get. I will be back!

Here is why 5 stars: A lot of the theater in L.A. is instrumental, meaning it is people using the theatre as a tool towards another medium: mainly scripted entertainment. Here is the part where I put a reasonable sentence about "That doesn't mean it's all bad, but..." Strikingly, it does mean that so much of it is bad. "Bad", subjectively (DUH), if what you value in theater is not televisual fourth-wall scripting and commonplace quotidian stuff, but the exercise of form and the mind that the theater is capable of, and that makes it--if you agree with me (DUH)--a unique and invaluable resource. Both shows I have seen at Son of Semele unquestionably fit the bill of 'theater for theater's sake'; not meaning that they were up their own b*tts (they were not, neither of them), but meaning that they were invested in creating a fluid narrative space that played around with the conventions of the theater in fun, silly, exploratory ways. And, in both cases, did so to tell a story with meat on its bones -- a story of 'social substance', although what that substance was or meant was, in both cases, open to interpretation. So yeah, I'll throw down. As opposed to some strikingly big-name theaters in L.A., they do bold theatrical theatery theater here; I'm glad we've got Son of Semele in town. Oh, next reason: my sister and I accidentally bought 3 tix when we only needed two, and even though I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Son of Semele doesnt have tons of excess revenue to toss around, they friendlily and promptly took care of it for us. Very high level of 'customer service' from a scrappy little theater co.; better than you'd get at some of the big venues, and much appreciated.

Central heating, A/C They have a deal at www.sonofsemele.org/allaccesspass.html to get a year-long pass from the date of purchase for $99. This gets you into as many performances of any show performed in this theatre for an entire year. The ensemble performs two of their own shows a year, but also host theatre festivals, late night events, and guest artists. It's possibly the best theatre deal in Los Angeles. Highly recommended. Note: Most all of their shows contain adult themes, so leave the kids at home.

If I could add extra stars, I REALLY would!!…read more I've been with so many dance groups and have been fortunate enough to experience so much. And when I thought I hit my plateau, Te Varua Ori and Angela have definitely opened my eyes and saved the dancer in me. Angela is an extremely creative dancer, very strong in technique and skill, but so passionate within every movement. Watching her dance really captivate you and motivates you. Their lead drummer, Kalisi, is sooooooo freakin dope. I couldn't begin to fathom how crazy genius this guy is when it comes down to creating beats per Angela's movements. Everyone is so friendly, but has a good sense to strive to be the best. I also have to say this is the best looking group I've ever been with. Everyone is beautiful both inside and out! But what really is unique is how all of the other dancers and drummers have this natural vibe; like everyone feeds off of each other's energy. I kid you not, this group has it's own spirit that every dancer dreams of. The love. The drive. The unity. It's all there at Te Varua Ori. Try it for yourself, or come to one of our shows... You'll see what i mean.

NOT ADA COMPLIANT OR SAFE!…read more The staff yelled at me NO PETS when I approached the check in building with my service animal. I didn't even get a word out of my mouth and they were screaming at me through the glass. I explained she's a service animal and offered to show my proof (even though it contains personal medical information.) I attempted to educate them on ADA compliance, reassured them that she is well behaved , house broken, and wouldn't be a problem. The man just kept screaming no pets, wouldn't listen to a word I said. The ironic part is that their yelling triggered me into hyperventilating and having a panic attack. My service animal calms my breathing during a panic attack so I don't pass out or endanger myself. Bottom line - DO NOOOOOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!! It's NOT worth risking your life and not worth having to deal with the mean men that run the place. $90 a night to stay on a block full of *lizards* and P's and trash and homeless folks. No offense to the members of the community in the area, we all gotta get in where we fit in. Much love. Check out my review for the mcds around the corner, a man casually dropped a bomb in the parking lot just steps away from me. The parking lot and the street was full of ppl and nobody cared!!! It's lawless out there! Don't go!!!!

Alright, this is gonna be long. TL;DR at the bottom. I want to start by saying this is a motel…read more This is not a hotel. This is not a bed and breakfast. This is not a cute little roadside inn. This is a *motel*. If your idea of a motel is the Travelodge on the good side of town, this is not for you. Its not cute, chic, vintage, or cozy. Its a motel. This is not somewhere you take your family because you are trying to spend a little less. This is where you stay when you accidently spent all your money on LSD on your "find yourself" road trip. This review keeps all of this in mind. This place was entirely adequate. Its was fine. It provided everything that I can expect of a motel. It has a bed, a shower, a tv, and a toilet. This place has not been remodeled since like, 1995. There were holes in the walls, shower was taped up, deadbolt had to be finessed to work, and stains on some stuff. None of this mattered to me because its a motel. The couple that runs it were very sweet. A few reviews said they are rude, and they are not rude at all, they are very to the point, no small talk people, but very nice. We said we were checking in, they said "Okay, $50 deposit:", we paid that, and they said "Here's your key and room number". Not rude at all, just not all small talky. There is a $50 cash deposit. Cash only. I don't really know what its for, because they gave it back to us before they checked the room. A few reviews mentioned bed bugs. There was not evidence of a single bug anywhere in the room. Not bed bugs, not roaches, not spiders, not even a fly. Another review said that pest control was out often, and when you get there you are greeted with a notice saying they have to spray for citrus aphids. There is an outbreak right now (as for me posting this) in a lot of places of the country. They are not poisonous, I didn't see a single one, and tbh, wouldn't have cared if I did. They are aphids. I guess maybe be aware if you own an orchard. In fact, I was so worried about bed bugs I actually pulled their health department history. They don't have a single bug or cleanliness related citation in the past 4 years, and that was as far back as the history went. They don't have bed bugs, I promise. The location is fine if you are used to cities, if you are not its terrifying. The first night there was a full on catfight screaming match between two women who, as far as I can tell, were dating the same man. They were loud enough to keep me up, but not so loud that I could hear the whole story. They got kicked out after about 30mins. The second night, someone decided to set off fireworks outside our window. Yes, really. It was not gunshots. It was very clearly fireworks. Outside our window. They also got kicked out pretty quickly. As for the inside, it was fine. Some holes, some duct tape, mismatched sheets, a few stains on the walls. Everything was extremely clean though. The furniture didn't match, but nothing was wrong with it. If you are an adult or couple just passing though for a night this is fine. It's loud. It's ugly. It's fine. It's a motel. TL;DR: Its ugly, old, loud, and kinda broken, but it's clean, there are no bugs, and it's fine. You gotta finesse the door to get it to lock, there was some tape and stains, and there is a $50 cash deposit. It's a motel.
