My rating is on the store. Now as far as location....I wish it was in a nicer area. As soon as I pulled up after missing it the first time I saw a homeless person wandering around and the building next to the book store are abandoned and graffitied. There is only street parking but there aren't meters. When I walked up to the store I noticed it was locked....which at first I was shocked because it was 30 minutes after their store opening time. I peeked through the window and a worked came and greeted me and said it was open. (In hindsight when I went to leave the store I had trouble with the doorknob so maybe it wasn't locked at all and I didn't know how to open the door) lol The book selection is great and most of the books are primarily in Spanish, not too many bilingual books which I was avoiding. The employee was very helpful and pointed me in the direction of the types of books I was looking for. They even have a 40% discount table on some books. Prices aren't bad, average is about $15 a book for the younger board books, pop-ups which is what I went to get. I will be back! read more

As a Latina mother it's important that I teach my child about his culture to strength his Latino roots. La Librería is a gem hidden in Los Angeles. It's has books from Spanish authors from Latin America and Spain. I'm so happy I found this book store and will be visiting more often to expand my child's library with more great books written in Spanish. This place is a true wonderland. Chiara and Celene have done such an incredible job at carefully curating their selection of books. Their collection is reflective of the Hispanic diversity in this city, going from countries like Chile, through El Salvador, Mexico, all the way to Spain just to name a few. I stumbled upon this treasure of a book store while listening to KPCC on my morning commute (http://www.scpr.org/blogs/education/2015/02/26/17951/spanish-language-books-for-kids-have-a-new-l-a-hom/). I stopped by on a Saturday morning hoping to find a gift for my 4-year old cousin, my 5-year old nephew, and to stock up on my own library for my little one coming next month. I fell in love with the selection! There are so many great books to choose from and I loved just browsing through the shelves. One of the store's owners, Chiara, helped me out and brought over many books for me to consider. I ended up taking home 5 books in all (although at one point I had about 10 books that i really wanted to take home). There are books from all over Latin America and for all ages. Honestly, reading these children's stories is going to help me out with my SoCal spanglish :) They're open Saturday & Sunday from 10-4 and during the week by appointment only, but you can also buy their books online. Personally I'd rather buy them from the store directly because that way you get to actually read the story and look at the amazing illustrations, but it's nice that they have that option for those who don't live close by. It's a very family friendly store, with a couple of little tables and chairs set up with paper and crayons plus (duh) books for kids to read. All in all, I'm so excited to have found this book store and would give it 10 stars if I could! Service was great, location is clean, and selection is fantastic. read more

Good selection of children's books in Spanish from all over the place and for many ages. When we went they were finishing an event. While the selection is nice, children are allowed to run around and pull books and play (which is totally fine). The problem with this is that it took a while to find books that were not scratched or lightly damaged (I was shopping for gifts). Sometimes there were only 2-3 copies left of a book I wanted but they all looked used due to the scuffing and scratches so that was a bit disappointing. read more

Great selection. Friendly and informative staff. Support small business! This place is a gem and a must see! They carry Spanish only books as well as bilingual English/ Spanish books for children of all ages. They often host children's events and encourage children in their store. I visited with my mom to find books she can read to my little one in hopes of encouraging a tri lingual home (husband's first language is tagalog and mine is Spanish) so my little one can be exposed to as much language as possible. My mom was so delighted since she had not known if a Spanish language bookstore existing since one was demolished off of Wilshire between between Shatto and Vermont to make was for the shipping center. I have a young nephew and niece that speak Spanish as a first language and LA Libreria helped me get the perfect Christmas gift. I walked in and the owner welcomed me, first in Spanish, and after my baffled look - in English. She asked what I was looking for and picked out over a dozen suitable books explaining what the books were about. They were all excellent and the hardest part was just choosing two. All the books she picked out had great illustrations and artwork, which helped me follow the plot. This place was a great find and highly recommend it. If you don't speak Spanish know they the owner was made me feel very welcome and comfortable. She was very attentive. I'll definitely go again. read more

Best store for a wide and varied selection of high quality books in Spanish for your kids!

My husband and I stopped by here because we are expecting our first baby and are planning on raising her bilingual. Chiara was very friend and extremely helpful. She recommended some great books and had some excellent pointers on how to introduce our child to books, language and literacy. Even though I am a Spanish teacher, I work with teenagers, and the advice she gave us for the baby made a lot of sense. I was expecting the prices to be high because of the boutique feel of the shop, but they were the same range as at Barnes and Noble, but with an excellent selection. We had bought a few books at Barnes and Noble earlier, but ended up being disappointed in them because they were basically just bad translations of English books. La Libreria has a wide selection of authentic children's books in Spanish. It is a place I see myself revisiting often as my child grows. read more

La Libreria is a one of a kind bookstore. It carries witty, informative, fun and delightful books in beautiful prose and verse for the young Spanish language reader. The illustrations of their books are colorful, enriching, eye opening. Their texts are rich in the beautiful language of well written Spanish. I could not recommend this bookstore highly enough. The owners' passion is definitely the Spanish language and I am thrilled to at last find a bookstore in los Angeles that does justice to the heritage and language spoken throughout latinAmerica and Spain.
