Truly matches its name--so many interesting books covering a wide variety of topics! Also, a great resource for artists (free "Art Cart" sponsored for the community) and for book bargainhunters. Since the staff is small, I learned that book hunting and deliveries necessitate the need to close the store sporadically, I always call ahead to check when open. Important reason to support a small independently owned bookstore that wants to be a valuable resource for its neighborhood! read more

Far and away my favorite bookshop in Los Angeles. The collection is masterfully curated, there are great deals to be found, and the store feels like a true community space. I love the art, politics/philosophy/critical theory sections and this is one of very few stores where the fiction section holds a variety of used copies of wonderful books from different historical eras. Truly a gem. read more

Their hours are merely suggestions. They might be open, they might be closed. I've been inside once or twice. They were also closed on two separate visits I made during store hours. They have books though so and they aren't burning them or anything so I can't be too harsh. I bought The Anatomy of Melancholy here and that's been a read lol. Read it! Worst case scenario if they're closed when you try visiting just go down the street to Re/Arte. They're another bookstore and they were actually open as they said they would be! read more

Their hours on IG aren't accurate at all. The only times I've gone in are when I'm randomly driving by and see that it's open. I've driven out when the store was supposed to be open three different times only to find it closed. I've messaged them asking when they'd be open and got no response. The selection is good with a lot of new books but mostly used ones. It's messy and disorganized though and can be really hard to find something if you've never been there before. read more

Unassuming little bookshop with a thoughtful selection! Looking through their collections felt like treasure-hunting--a delightful mix of used and new books, art books, zines. Good books, but this foo is never there during the posted store hours. I've gone more than three times and drove out for nothing.

Same experience as other reviewers. We placed and order here 3 months ago and paid with card. We were since completely ghosted. They haven't answered our phone calls or emails amounting to over ten times we've tried to reach out. Don't trust this place with your money. read more

What a discovery! I got a haircut across the street at The Cream Shop then noticed this incredible bookstore. Massive selection of new and used, courteous employees, Other Books is now one of my go-to spots alongside The Iliad and The Last Bookstore. Whenever this pandemic is over, I hope to go to one of their events. Love this place! read more

They don't answer calls or emails apparently. I placed an online order for a book Nov 21 and they still haven't sent it or responded to my email asking when it would be sent. It was a birthday gift, but now it won't arrive on time. Of course, I live nearby and am willing to come pick it up but they don't answer their calls. I can't review their counter service, but I would avoid ordering from them. Radio silence isn't a good look. read more

Beyond the selection, their customer service is utterly commendable. I had placed a large order and it got sent back to the store damaged. A very cool local bookstore that stocks indie, popular, and translated works. They have everything from books to zines to cassette tapes! The organization is quirky (no labels, as far as I could see) - it encourages you to really take your time and find some gems. I also appreciate that they sometimes sort by publisher (e.g. Kaya or OneWorld) so you can find multiple titles from the same indie press in one place. They also have a good amount of titles in Spanish, as well as children's books! read more

An absolute gem of a bookstore in Boyle Heights. the store's inventory ranges from graphic novels to poetry to art books to classic science fiction to vintage literary journals to books on theater and film. The stock In addition, the store hosts poetry readings, meetups for writers and even live music performances. On a recent visit, I picked up a 60s Grove Press hardcover of Hubert Selby's LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN (only $25, wow) Ruben Salazar's BORDER CORRESPONDENT (out of print and only $15). and Milton Rokeach's THREE CHRISTS OF YPSILANTI (9.95). Great bookstore! Lots of variety and prices vary depending on the condition of the book. They carry both new and used books. Besides books, they also sell vinyls and cassettes. Meter parking only. Unless you you find parking near the houses. I suggest to park along the side of where Pollo Loco is located (I cannot remember the name of the street) since it looks like there's more parking on that street. Bring cash. The cashier told me they only accept credit cards when the owners of the bookstore are there, so I recommend bringing cash. read more

Amazed by their selection! Truly blown away; they have Sartre, Dumas, Fanon, Baldwin, Malcolm X, Juno Dias which are all part of a carefully curated selection of books that covers the entire spectrum (fiction and non-fiction) alike of the ethnic genre. I even found books from Simone Beauvoir! What a feat! Angela Davis, Nom Chomsky, Herbert Marcus, you name it! Chances they will carry it! I've found books on Karl Mark, and was also pleasantly surprised to see Vietnamese authors like Nam Le and Viet Ngen as well as African Authors like Chimanda Adichie; British sensation Zadie Smith, in brief, a bookstore haven for folks like me whose taste tend to bend towards radical authors...and omg, this by far is the MOST radical bookstore in LA. Nothing comes close. Not skylights, no other bookstore in LA curates that many radical authors of color! Yes, sweet Jesus, Yasss! It's as if they opened it for me! I love, love, LOVE this bookstore. But romantics won't be let down; they also have Flaubert, Faulkner and wide literary variety to satisfy everyone. A true jam of an independent bookstore nestled in the heart of Boyle Heights; precisely WHAT THE COMMUNITY NEEDS! The only major drawback is parking; It can be challenging in this densely populated part of Boyle Heights, so be sure to arm yourself with a good deal of patience. Cesar Chavez Blvd is a horror when it comes to parking! Be warned. As to credit card, they DO accept credit card. read more

Finally got around to coming here! It's a very cute little bookstore. There's a pretty large selection, though everything is a bit jumbled up in terms of organization. The cashier was nice and I found a book I'd never heard of, which is always a great thing. Would definitely come back. My only issue was that the used books were small in number and scattered throughout the store. read more

This is a very friendly bookstore. When I walked in I saw a Spanish Edition of the Iliad by Homer. I got it right away. I ordered the Spanish edition of Hesiod's Theogony and they got it for me very quickly at a reasonable price. There are many books and music recordings you can browse here. read more
