So the service gets zero stars. I would rather have been my own waiter so I wouldn't feel obligated to even tipping a lousy below-average 10%. The food also gets zero stars. I don't remember what I got, but I remember that it tasted identical to those awful TV dinners. Actually, I'm 90% sure that the beans came from a TV dinner. The inside really does match the aesthetics of the outside. The service was nice and prompt. Our waitress got us our drinks before we ordered. Yes, the menu is through a QR code. Nonetheless, I went ahead and ordered the sausage breakfast sandwich. Our food came out timely. The sandwich tasted good. Honestly, it was like any other breakfast sandwich that you would get at some other chain. It's consistent and reliable. You know what you're going to get. I feel that I can say the same for the rest of the table. It's simple American breakfast food done simple and right. Overall, I'd recommend. Housed in what feels like a former gas station or feed store, the building leans into its past while embracing a distinctly Marfa sense of style that is equal parts Texas chic and creative expression. The space blends indoor and outdoor dining with an eclectic mix of vintage tables, mismatched chairs, and quirky, artful décor. What might look like flea market finds to some feels, to others, like a carefully curated collection as if dining at an artist's home than a traditional restaurant. The hospitality matches the setting as warm, easygoing, and refreshingly unpretentious. From the moment we arrived through the end of our meal, the staff made everything feel effortless. At one point, when my daughter asked for another Mexican Coke, our server casually pointed her to the fridge to grab one herself, which is a small moment that perfectly captured the laid-back, trust-your-guests vibe of the place. The menu keeps things simple, focusing on classic American fare with a regional twist, and it absolutely delivers. At our table, we had the Hatch green chile and bacon burger, a fried chicken sandwich, and chicken tenders all served with flash-fried French fries. Every bite hit the mark. The chicken was tender, juicy, and full of flavor, while the burger was the standout as it tasted rich, got messy, and unapologetically juicy, dripping just enough onto the fries to make them even better. The fries themselves struck that perfect balance: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Even on a Tuesday evening, the place was buzzing. We had a short wait, but it hardly felt like one as there was plenty of space to sit outside or grab a drink while taking it all in. In many ways, The Water Stop feels like a reflection of Marfa itself: a thoughtful reinvention of something old into something vibrant, blending nostalgia, creativity, and comfort into a dining experience that's as unique as the town it calls home.

There was an American Flag and a Texas flag flying out front. We walked in and waited for someone to greet us and seat us. After we were at our table, drink orders were taken. When our water was brought out, we were also given some Honey Pecan Biscuits with butter. They were warm and I liked the pecans in it! Hubby & I shared everything. We started with a cup of Jalapeño and Cilantro Soup. It's a cream based soup. I couldn't detect much of any heat from the Jalapeños and the cilantro was pretty much hidden. Maybe a sprinkling of fresh cilantro on top would have made it more pronounced. It also needed to be served hot. We then got the 14oz Ribeye which came with mashed potatoes & green beans. This was a great plate of food! It came out hot! The person who brought it out waited until we cut into it to see if it was acceptable. We've never had any staff person do that for us before! It was a little under done on one side, but the other was perfect. We almost finished the plate. It was delicious! Lastly, we got the Chocolate Bread Pudding Tamale. It comes wrapped in a corn husk that it is cooked in. You remove it and eat the bread pudding. It was gummy in a good way, as hubby described it. It needed the fresh strawberries & ice cream that came on the plate. We really enjoyed our dinner! Our server, Jordan, was very efficient & made it a nice experience! The staff were a bit overwhelmed but they stayed calm and friendly. We were a party of two and were seated immediately at an outdoor table next to the fountain. It's a very nice patio that was nicely lit by the hotel lights as it got darker. Our waitress was very friendly and greeted us when she came to our table. My wife ordered the pecan crusted salmon, which she said was very good. It was a large portion of nicely-cooked salmon. I ordered two items from the appetizer menu - bacon wrapped quail and kale beet salad. Both were very large portions, plenty for a meal or maybe even 2 people. There were about 6 pieces of quail and a moderately spicy aioli. It was very good. The kale beet salad was also delicious. We also had a piece of chocolate mousse cake, that was delicious. Nice and chocolatey but not overly sweet or rich. Even though the restaurant was crowded, our service was great. Our waitress was always friendly, checked on us often enough, and took the time to chat briefly without seeming harried. The food came out quickly and was hot and fresh. Our total check was about $75 plus tip. Not inexpensive but worth it for the food, service and ambience.

If you have never heard of the movie, that is a lot of their problem. The hotel and restaurant are resting on their laurels from a movie from the 1950s. If you took a date to see Giant when it first came out, you probably need food you can gum. We were here two years ago and had a good experience so we came back and were sorely disappointed. Service was appallingly slow because there was one waitress (who was great) for the entire restaurant and patio. There was one bartender. Very short-staffed. We had drinks and chips and salsa on the patio before moving inside for dinner. Entrees on the menu were chicken and veggie burgers (no beef?) and chicken was out. The other entrees were the pistachio-crusted steak (basically fancy chicken fried steak) and a ribeye. They were out of the pistachio-crusted steak. So, it was a veggie burger or a ribeye. No chicken dishes, no fish, no pasta. A frozen veggie burger or a $45 ribeye. We started with a a charcuterie board which was tasty but not very generous. The ribeyes were served on mashed potatoes and very good, but there was no vegetable, no bread - just steak and potatoes. I don't mind the price of the steak but part of that price is service and if there is one server for an entire restaurant and the patio, the service is not going to be that good, and it wasn't. Drinks were not refilled, dessert wasn't offered (they might have been out!), so it was eat and run. So, staffing issues, inventory management issues and a restaurant that had a number of customers to serve so they should do better. Much better.

The food was just as impressive as the service. Our steaks were cooked to perfection, and Julius recommended ordering the herbed butter and the Tampiqueña topping on the side. I am so grateful he suggested that because it was absolutely delicious and the perfect complement to the steak. He also helped several people in our group choose their meals, and every single recommendation was spot on. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu, but I also don't think I would have enjoyed my meal nearly as much without his thoughtful suggestions. Every side dish was excellent, from the baked potatoes, corn, beans, coleslaw, and fresh bread to the incredible desserts that finished off the meal perfectly. Beyond the amazing food and exceptional service, we loved the atmosphere of the ranch. The views were beautiful, I had a blast feeding the animals, and seeing the film history added such a unique touch to the experience. Overall, this was a fantastic dining experience in every way.
