Chips with salsa in a squeezable container - who does this anymore? What happened to small bowls?
    Etienne H.

I truly hoped this place would live up to my Mexican expectations but sadly, no. Although it's one of a few places near the highway, it really needs to try to step up the quality. I've been to better places in tiny towns in Mexico so there are no excuses. Food was mediocre with the flautas ok, tortillas with cheese so bland and my cheeseburger was tasteless. What happened to the condiments?! Chips with salsa in a squeezable container as a side- who does this anymore? What happened to small bowls? To top it off, "vegetarian" beans are made in a chicken broth stock!! What is going on here? Por favor de mejorar la comida!

This little gem boasts big space inside. It's nothing fancy and nothing bad. It's simple and they have a/c which can certainly be enjoyed with a cold bottle of Mexican coke. Delicious! The menu is double sided and not entirely complex. This should help a lot of hungry diners make a quicker decision. I opted for a starter: bacon wrapped jalapeños (4) and they're much larger than I anticipated. Not fully deseeded but, not spicy. I would have expected a thicker bacon wrap, based on the price. It's a simple and enjoyable starter. Next up, I decided on the combination plate with charro beans rather than refried; I'm not impressed with the charro beans-they lack flavor and/or spice from what I'm accustomed. The dish overall wasn't super spectacular, yet it was satisfying and not a "send it back" dish. Really set basic expectations. All in all, I'd still say to stop in. They're nice people and the food will do the job.

Food was very good, serving size was good, especially the nachos. Massive plate. Had to take half with me. Service was good. Wait time minimal. Average place, but very clean.

Good little place! Really good burritos and tacos al carbon. Even if you're just passing through Van Horn, call in a to-go order and give an estimated time of arrival; they will literally prepare your order based on the time you give to ensure it's not cold by the time you pick it up! Who does that nowaday?!?!? Wow. If you have time to dine in, do it. The food is very very good; or at least I haven't had anything that wasn't. Plus the staff is very friendly and keep the restaurant very clean. Covid compliant: all staff wear a mask.

Stopped here as we turned south off of I10 on our way from El Paso to Marfa. Saw it on Yelp, saw the great reviews, and mexican food always sounds good hehe So we pulled in. Very clean (even the restrooms were very clean and well-kept). Very friendly service. Nice dining room with a fireplace (which was not going when we were there). My husband and I shared the chicken fajitas. She asked if we wanted two flour tortillas (which I rarely need more than one, but we said yes...two tortillas). When we got them, we found out why. They were HUGE! And oh my gosh, so delicious! The chicken was grilled so well, with some crispy parts. And I like my fajita onions super well done...almost burned. And they were. I was in heaven! The servers were very attentive to us, making sure we were doing well. Definitely a must if you're on this part of Interstate 10 around mealtime!

I showed up a bit early for breakfast and the waitress inside told me to come in, anyhow. And that was the start of a beautiful relationship! The coffee was hot and good, the chilaquiles verdes especially tasty. This place has a pleasant vibe inside...a mix of locals laughing together and tired travelers getting a bite to eat before heading back out on the road. Pro tip: If the waitress tells you the red salsa is "nothing but fire," you'd better believe her! Highly recommended.

Hole In the Wall place meant for OTR truckers to stop for a quick bite and some downtime. Food came out quickly after we finally got acknowledged and seated. Quality authentic food even if the ambiance and service can use a little sprucing up. Overall, it hits a spot if you crave quick Mexican soul food.

Friendly place. Clean and good food. Tacos were really good. I would return - there isn't much in VanHorn and we were pleasantly surprised.

The food was fantastic--the green sauce is absolutely phenomenal! We asked the waitress how the sauce was made and she confessed that the cook won't share her recipe. Heck, I wouldn't either. It tastes like somebody's family recipe that they're keeping under lock and key. Also, we noted the refried beans were very good. They tasted fresh, not like they had been sitting in a pot for days. Don't be turned off by the appearance of Van Horn. It's a hard-scrabble looking town that must have seen better days. The restaurant itself is humble, but very clean, sharing a building with a laundromat. That being said, I appreciate small, locally owned businesses as opposed to chains. Broadway Cafe appears to have a lot of business from travelers as well as locals, and does a respectable amount of carry out and drive-thru orders. When I see locals eating somewhere (and they all seem to know each other), I know I've found a gem.

If you're in a mood for a bite, be confident that the food and service at Broadway Cafe is pretty darn good. It's not a big space, but the cafe next to the Laundromat is clean and simple. I ordered the combination plate that came with a side taco (ground beef), choice if enchilada, rice, refried beans, and pork green chile. It was very good Liz enjoyed her enchilada plate - the enchiladas have a cheesy hatch flavor. Noah had a kids taco plate which as almost as big as my combination plate. Noemi had a bean and cheese burrito. The service was good and friendly. If you pass through VH, then consider Broadway Cafe.

The ambiance is more on the utilitarian side not super classy or trendy but where this place shines is in the food. We ordered the carne asada tacos and the chips and salsa. Everything was clearly homemade. The chips were fried fresh and brought to the table warm, and the salsa tasted like it had just been made. The flour tortillas were also fresh and full of flavor. It was very, very good. We popped in for a light lunch and enjoyed every bite. Authentic, satisfying, and perfectly balanced not too heavy, not too light. Just right. Fast and delicious. Bravo!

They looked really good and on the appetizer menu so I got them. Asked for the salsa flight but waiter said the prep guy did not come in that day so they had no salsa (none at all)! So o ordered the guacamole (which he competed). Also got a Jamaica juice that was so large I had to get a to go cup when we were ready to leave. The guacamole was house made but it did lack some flavor. It needed a punch of garlic and some salt. Only thing I could add was the salt from the table. Otherwise it was good and chunky. The nachos came out and they were massive. I was able to eat about 10 chips before giving up. My provider and I said we should have shared. They are loaded with meat, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, pico, and pickled red onions. I have no complaints bout the taste as it was all very flavorful and seasoned well. There are not a lot of options for food in town but I would eat here again.

Getting there, though, felt like stepping backward in time--partly paved roads, weathered buildings, and aging homes that quietly carry the town's long history. Then, almost abruptly, Sentinel Marfa appears as a striking contrast. The building is crisp and modernist, the kind of clean, intentional design you'd expect in a big-city neighborhood, not tucked into a rugged, historic West Texas landscape. Inside, that contrast continues. The high ceilings and open, airy layout give the space a contemporary calm, while scattered tables display local art, newspapers, and small curios that root it firmly in Marfa's creative spirit. A hallway beside the ordering counter leads to a quieter back room, which in turn opens to an outdoor area shaded by a massive oak tree. The place was buzzing, full enough that we ended up sharing a table with another family, which somehow felt fitting in a town like this. Coffee is ordered at the counter, with both staff and baristas displaying some of that West Texas charm and with a smile. Drinks are picked up at the counter while food finds its way to you. The coffee drinks are crafted with beans from Picacho Coffee Roasters. Straight coffee and lattes were exceptional, and the breakfast tacos, made fresh with fluffy eggs, cheese, and potatoes, delivered exactly what we needed. By the time we left, we felt not just caffeinated, but welcomed and ready to explore a place where time seems to move at its own deliberate pace.
