My husband and I stopped in Van Horn for a late lunch as we were driving from New Mexico to San Antonio, TX. Boot's and Scoops Cafe had good review, albeit, only by 2 people. On the plus side, they advertise ice cream and shakes. With the crazy hot weather, it was very enticing. We were in the middle of nowhere and good eateries are slim pickings. We arrived 10 minutes prior to the cafe's scheduled closing. We were greeted upon entry and offered menus. You place your order and sit down in the dining room and the food are brought out to you. There is a station for you to help yourself to plastic ware, napkins, lids, and straws. We ordered the Today's Special: Hot Roast Beef Sandwich on Ciabatta, lettuce, tomato and Mayo. One side is included with the order. We selected kettle chips. My husband ordered sweet tea and I stuck with water for our drinks. Surprisingly, it took a longer than I had expected for our sandwiches to arrive. However, the sandwiches were delicious. Very tasty roast beef on toasted Ciabatta bread that is slightly crusty on the outside but soft on the inside. The kettle chips was basic chips from a bag. A small 1/2 wedge of cantaloupe was include which added a little color and freshness to the order. A small wedge of pickle was also included but neither my husband nor I touched it. We were actually full from the Sandwich and chips. The sweet tea was fresh and my husband enjoyed it. I had originally planning to have some coconut ice cream as a dessert but I was actually full and the ice cream containers looked like they have been there for a while so I was not tempted. I decided to skip the ice cream. Lastly, we used the restroom prior to departing since we still had quite a drive ahead of us. My husband said his experience was okay but mine was less appealing since the toilet seat was wet and I had to clean/dry it prior to using it.

Stopped on our way to Texas for a treat and it was pretty good. We got a couple scoops of ice cream and we were satisfied. Service could be a bit more polite but nothing too bad!

This place is a hidden gem in practically the middle of nowhere! The restaurant is only open for lunch (opens at 11am) while their ice cream parlor is open longer. I had the veggie sandwich on ciabatta bread with pasta salad, as well as chipotle mayo on the side. It was delicious! Fresh veggies combined with that mayo= heaven! The combo meal was also served with a slice of tasty watermelon. I also loved the southwest decor. Staff was friendly. Clean restroom.

Delicious food and great service. The potato salad was amazing! I'd go back just for that.

That said, it's a cool spot with great people and I'd happily go back. I ordered their signature breakfast sandwich, egg, bacon, and cheese on a biscuit. It was good, not mind-blowing. The biscuit was a little dry, which was a bummer since that's supposed to be the star of the show. I kept wishing for some butter or sauce to bring it together. On the flip side, I also grabbed a slice of cake and that was excellent, easily my favorite thing I ate there. For drinks, I got a matcha latte. They warned me the matcha was a bit earthy and suggested adding sweetener, which I did. I always wonder if "earthy" is code for lower-quality matcha, if ceremonial matcha doesn't really need sugar, but with the sweetener it was totally fine and enjoyable. The space itself is cute and very Marfa. It's in a converted gas station that's part coffee shop, part vintage clothing store, with vintage motorcycles to keep the gas station theme going. There are only a couple of tables, and it's not really a place I felt like lingering with a book or a laptop. More of a grab-a-coffee-and-move-on kind of spot. If you're visiting Marfa and heading out to explore, it's perfect for that. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. They were attentive, brought my food to the table even though they initially said it would be window pickup, and the place is dog-friendly, very relaxed, and unpretentious. I'd absolutely come back the next time I'm in town.

They make some excellent drinks and the staff is very friendly. The shop is in a old gas station so there is plenty of parking and places to sit inside and out. This is a very chill shop with relaxing vibes in the creative town of Marfa Texas. Marfa, by the way, is a pretty awesome place to visit :)

Getting there, though, felt like stepping backward in time--partly paved roads, weathered buildings, and aging homes that quietly carry the town's long history. Then, almost abruptly, Sentinel Marfa appears as a striking contrast. The building is crisp and modernist, the kind of clean, intentional design you'd expect in a big-city neighborhood, not tucked into a rugged, historic West Texas landscape. Inside, that contrast continues. The high ceilings and open, airy layout give the space a contemporary calm, while scattered tables display local art, newspapers, and small curios that root it firmly in Marfa's creative spirit. A hallway beside the ordering counter leads to a quieter back room, which in turn opens to an outdoor area shaded by a massive oak tree. The place was buzzing, full enough that we ended up sharing a table with another family, which somehow felt fitting in a town like this. Coffee is ordered at the counter, with both staff and baristas displaying some of that West Texas charm and with a smile. Drinks are picked up at the counter while food finds its way to you. The coffee drinks are crafted with beans from Picacho Coffee Roasters. Straight coffee and lattes were exceptional, and the breakfast tacos, made fresh with fluffy eggs, cheese, and potatoes, delivered exactly what we needed. By the time we left, we felt not just caffeinated, but welcomed and ready to explore a place where time seems to move at its own deliberate pace.
