Amazing bar about half an hour out of Antietam battlefield. The area around it seemed a little sketchy, but definitely worth the trip! The beer selection was perfect and their food was phenomenal. We shared their sample platter (fried catfish is to die for), then we had their burgers. What really stood out was their staff/manager.. they really made us feel at home. Hands down, the Broad Axe is my favorite place to eat in Hagerstown. The staff is fantastic and the food is always on point! I don't think there is a single bad thing on their menu. My personal favorites are the Buffalo Chicken sandwich, Fish Tacos, Hangover Burger and the wings. I never stop comparing other restaurants in the area to The Broad Axe, and that's because it never fails. Burgers are always perfectly cooked, never dried out. LA locals who stopped by on a road trip from Washington, PA to the DC area. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this spot! Stopped for lunch with our 3-year-old. There were excellent craft beers, modern takes on some traditional bar foods (catfish sandwich was beautifully made & the kettle chips do not disappoint) and excellent service. Best bar experience in Hagerstown hands down! The service is fast, the bartenders pay attention and most importantly the food is always on point. I've had everything on the menu that dietary restrictions will allow and have yet to find something that's not palatable. there fried catfish and rueben are my big go to staples when it comes to fast and tasty. This place is great. I ordered the fried ribs for an appetizer, and asked the bartender if he could make a drink I saw on pinterest. The ribs were GREAT and the drink was AWESOME. I met some locals, and chat with them for a while. Music was nice, place was medium packed, busy still. People looked like they were enjoying themselves and I had a great time. Found this place on Yelp and people rated it good and I have never been to the area so thought I would try it out. Service was excellent and the food came out quickly. We started with the crab nachos that weren't enormous but very tasty (pic attached). Real crab tends to make that happen. Order a buffalo chicken sandwich and my friend had the bacon muenster burger. We both got fresh cut fries which if I had to criticize anything where a little salty but still excellent. Both sandwiches were nice size and the fresh burger which was ordered medium came out medium. The above plus two sodas was less than $40 which I thought very reasonable. On another note the beer selection that I viewed was very impressive and there were plenty of TV's to watch. I would highly recommend this restaurant pub. read more

I recently moved to the area and have been looking for a great restaurant/Pub. I found Broad Axe through Yelp and It has become a great favourite for me. I love everything about it - honestly. I have been two times now in the last 1.5 weeks and both times everything was perfect. The first time I had the Shrimp BLT sandwich - which was a special. The perfect blend of spices on this delectable shrimp sandwich - just completely WOWED me. It was truly amazingly good! I had the fresh cut fries with it and they were cooked to perfection - lightly browned - not over or underdone. I have to say the food was beyond perfect - BUT what makes Broad Axe truly appealing is the people who work there. As I said, I am new to the area and they really took time to talk and make me feel comfortable and welcome. GREAT MENUE + GREAT FOOD + WONDERFUL, FRIENDLY STAFF = An AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! We ate at Broad Axe today after a short visit to Hagerstown. We wanted to look into something local and seeing the good reviews we thought we'd give it a try - and we couldn't have been more satisfied! We had the catfish nuggets, the club sandwich, and the Midwest tenderloin sandwich with fresh cut fries. The nuggets were great, and we're usually a little picky about catfish. Crispy and a great portion! The club sandwich was loaded with meat and real bacon. The tenderloin was served in a huge portion and was crispy. Typically we're wary of fresh cut fries because they are soggier than most fries, but these were light and crispy and definitely worth the slight upsale. We loved the atmosphere and will definitely be back if we are in the area again! read more

This is a great local bar with good happy hour and a killer wing night. (Thursday). Listen, these chicken wings are the biggest wings I have ever seen. I have no idea what kind of mutant dinosaur chicken these are coming from and I don't care. I only care that half of them are covered in spicy sauce and half in Jack Daniels BBQ so I can stuff them in my face. Also, they will let you order any combo of wings, so try one of each if that's what strikes your fancy. My fiancée and I were driving home to DC from Pittsburgh the other week, and we were desperate for a late dinner around 10pm, so we pulled out Yelp and starting looking for a place to eat in Hagerstown. Broad Axe was one of a few places open and had excellent Yelp reviews, so we decided to check it out. It has definitely entered our repertoire as a place to return to! Because it was a Sunday night, the bar was not highly crowded, and everyone at the bar seemed relaxed. Then, Ducky came over to introduce himself as our server. He was so friendly and so genuine, his service alone could probably have guaranteed that we would return. The food, though, was the crown jewel of this visit. Ducky was not lying when he said Broad Axe had the best reuben sandwich in the area. The sour kraut was absolutely delicious, the meat was perfectly tender, the sauce was spiced just right, and the bread was perfectly warm, yet crispy, not soggy. Similarly, my fiancée loved the Midwest Tenderloin. It was very juicy, despite being fried, and was large enough to satisfy an elephant. Thus, Broad Axe offers good food and great service at an affordable price and a convenient time. It will certainly become our go-to place in Hagerstown! read more

When you first pull up outside you may be tempted to drive away quickly,,, it's fine h town is old and remains the same as it was 35 years ago,,,not true they may have swept the streets there once. Jk,, sort of. Anyway when you walk in its a great old tavern type environment and has very good food and nice pub food from the crab dip to the big ass chicken sandwich. The crab nachos is good and all there stuff there is made on premises and has a very loyal following. You could possibly get stuck in the bathroom. I think there less than 3x3. The beer is cold an outside patio which is usually full of your smoker types. But all in all the place has good food, a competent friendly staff. I have never been disappointed here and certainly is the best bar food and pub scene in dtown h town. For a pubby bar place. This places food smokes the crabby ass stuffed shirts over at Bulls and bums on main street. It's a homey feel and by all accounts some homely folks but it works and you will leave very full and happy..that is of course you can get out of the bathroom. Good luck read more
