En route to parts South, well towards home, GF and stopped in Brix. My longtime home girl, Stephanie, is the proprietor and sometimes bartender. She also owns 3411 on MacArthur. It's early and she's on her way on. Found street parking right in front. Not too worried about leaving the Whip. There's security right outside doing his thing. This is one of the few bars in the Bay Area left where you can go here amazing underground allegations that you have EDM artists doing it for all the right reasons and pouring their heart into the music. The owners and the bartenders are super friendly and accommodating to anybody who uses the venue or attends the venue for fun. *3.5 Stars* This place is rather... interesting. If coming at night, just be aware of your surroundings. The area is a bit sketch but nothing too bad. Brix 581 seems to be known for their brunch and happy hour specials. Normally I'd be all over that, but I came here with a group of friends on a Friday night bar hopping adventure. Not too sure how we ended up HERE... but we did. We walked in and the place was damn near dead at 10 pm on Friday night. Maybe because they were blasting techno and house music...??? (Crickets). I'm not really a fan of house music but if that's your cup of tea, then jam on patna! Despite how empty this place was, the interior setup wasn't half bad. It's spacious with lots of tables, a nice looking bar, and a small dance floor for those who wanna shake that tooshy. I noticed an upstairs area but didn't make my way up there that evening. We all took a seat at the bar and our bartender for the evening was really on it! I didn't get his name, but he was really patient with our group as some of us were a bit more tipsy than others. As far as bar bites go, Brix offers your typical bar food faire such as wings, fries, and salads. I also noticed that they had a few pasta selections and lumpia on the menu. I can totally appreciate the variety since the same old boring bar food can be... well... boring. On this particular night, we went for the boring, and ordered wings and fries. We ordered the garlic parmesan fries and plain shoe string fries with a cilantro-lime sauce. All hail the cilantro-lime sauce! It was BOMB! I never would have thought to dip fries in something with cilantro and lime, but I would take that instead of ketchup any day! I think I practically ate the garlic parmesan fries all by my damn self! Those suckers literally had me licking my fingers. They were perfectly seasoned and the garlic wasn't overwhelming at all. The wings were decent but nothing to rave about. We did inhale them though... I mean, we were drankin'. The highlight of our night (besides watching the crazy drunks dancing in the other room) was their wonderful drinks! Three of us had cocktails and one went for a cold brew. The cocktails here were amazing! I got the Moscow mule which didn't actually taste anything like a mule, however it was still really tasty. My other friends ordered a Paloma and a "Violette Femme". The Paloma was tasty but I super enjoyed the Violette Femme! It consisted of Tequila, Violet, lemon, and lime, and the bartender made it super strong! We love our Tequila and homeboy did not skimp on it that night! The drinks were definitely a hit and I feel that if this place was a bit more lively, it would be a place that I would visit regularly. Unfortunately the vibe was just off, so that's why I'm rating it a 3.5 stars. Would I come back? For sure! So... I ventured into Brix for brunch today. This is definitely a hidden gem. Who in their grandmamas mind thought that a peach cobbler waffle with Bourbon syrup would be good? Listen... just go. Get in and check out Chef Halihl whole he is there. There are other food stars on the premises, but get there on a Sunday for brunch and be ready to grub. This is a hard rating because: the food- 5 stars the bartenders were helpful and kind- 5 stars The atmosphere- 2 The food was fantastic. I saw this place on Triple D and the chef was kind, the food was amazing! We got the chicken mofongo and the fish, can't think of the name right now. It was fried goodness. Paired with a cold beer, I was so excited to dig in. It did not disappoint. The bartenders told us about all the food options and beers on tap. Now the atmosphere, we came on a day where apparently there was a full on party at 7pm, DJ, and drunk make outs by our table. Also, a pipe was leaking on our table. It was incredibly loud but we knew it was mostly a bar so it comes with the territory, just didn't think it would be that crowded that early. I've been coming here for a number of years Stephanie and adam have always made me feel very welcome and safe it's also located directly on the opposite side of the freeway from the police station so even though the area is a little sketch that's just a Oakland it's probably in one of the more safer areas that you could be in. Their nightlife events are pretty amazing I've worked with them on several different events that I was hired for. I've also gone to a few brunches there and the food has always been amazing definitely top-notch and I will be continuing going. (also I'd like to add I went here Multiple times in the last couple of years when they were allowed open and they always checks my Covid card so I don't know what's up with that other review I mean sure people sometimes forget word they were having off night who knows. Shit happens and after all anyone going out clubbing especially in this day and age where we have to worry about Covid you pretty much run the risk yourself and just because someone may test clean doesn't mean the whole place would be safe anyways) But adam and Stephanie definitely do an amazing job always very clean the bathrooms have always smelled like cleaning products so they've been definitely on top of things. BRIX 581 so called due to the address and the brick interior on the second floor of this bar and lounge comes from the owners of Lounge 3411 in the lower Oakland Hills. It is the perfect place to get a nice quick drink for Happy Hour as you sit and wait for traffic to pass through. In fact, a friend and I were looking for a place to stop off at because 5th Street right outside had turned into such a parking lot thanks to all of the Thursday evening traffic headed toward the Webster Street Tube and Alameda. Owner Stephanie Sulivan was such a warm presence when asked if they were open she said sure c'mon in and even gave us a tour of both levels of the establishment. We saw a lovely outdoor patio that was used for both dancing, thanks to a DJ already spinning tunes, and a karoke bar. We also saw a really nice second floor which hosts private parties as well as art showing by local artists. Isn't that the perfect way to represent the community? As I said we came for a quick drink and as bartender Stephanie didn't disappoint. We asked what were the specialties at BRIX 581 were and she suggested the Mule, Irish or Moscow. The Moscow Mule was perfect for me, although not served in the traditional copper glass, but topped with a liberal splash of ginger ale, it was the perfectly refreshing drink for the evening. It literally went down like juice! My friend got two drinks a Kalhua and creme, and when she asked what else Stephanie would suggest, she got the Violette Femme when served with tequila was the perfect drink. Stephanie even gave us a sample of the Violet they serve in the drink and it went down smoothly! The drinks tasted great and the Happy Hour prices were even better. I can't wait to return to BRIX 581 in the future with their eclectic bar menu which includes three different mac and cheese dishes and three different chicken wing flavors, they are considering putting burgers on the menu hopefully sometime soon. But Stephanie really sold me on the wide variety that their Sunday brunch menu offers, from Pork Belly Hash to the Bottomless Mimosas, I already plan to return one day! Especially after I saw my fellow Yelpers pics of the Shrimp and Grits, my mouth was I was already watering! BRIX 581 is the perfect place to come to when the traffic in the streets of Oakland or on Interstate 880 gets to be too much for you. I came in on Valentines Day with my husband. He order the Shrimp and Garlic noodles. (Amazing) I order the Combo - Fried Fish, Chicken and Shrimp. (Amazing) My side orders were Mac and cheese, greens, and Red Beans and Rice. Everything was amazing. I will come back every chance I get. The decor is super cute and nice but that's basically the only thing that really impressed me. Parking is street parking but is fairly easy to find. We did have to wait to order because our friend was running late. But we ordered and had to wait OVER AN HOUR for our food to arrive. Granted, I may have already been in a hangry mood, but being hungrier should make food taste better right? Apparently not so here :/ We ordered: CHICKEN AND WAFFLE - It's literally just a piece of fried chicken, waffle, and maple syrup - no sides, no nothing - Also the chicken tasted unlike chicken? We tried to ask the waitress if maybe they had accidentally given us pork but she insisted they use a different part of the chicken and that's why it tasted different - I still to this day have no idea what meat that was but there no way that was chicken SALMON SCRAMBLE WITH POTATOES - potatoes were solid - Salmon was strange, it seemed to contain half canned salmon and half fresh salmon? - It was also a mix of lox and baked salmon - WEIRD BRIX STYLE PUTTANESCA - Okay to be fair I wasn't sure what puttanesca was but I ordered it because it had the name of the restaurant in it! - It was literally all olives, ALL OLIVES NOTHING ELSE - It was basically just olives in tomato sauce with two fulled cooked eggs on top - that's right, the eggs had no yolk, they were completely cooked all the way through, even though they looked like they were supposed to be over easy SHRIMP AND GRITS - probably the only dish that there were no complaints about - so if you do end up coming here most likely, order this - seems to be a solid dish Overall, I had no expectations coming here and I was still disappointed read more

I was there 9/11/16 with a bunch of friends. We had to give a deposit and our order ahead of time to make things easier for staff and get those fed first that had a flight to catch. The coffee machine was not working and they had to grind the beans before making coffee. I'm not sorry to say this, if a restaurant is gonna serve breakfast, they better have a really good coffee system!! The Sunday brunch menu is really eclectic, this restaurant may want to have a few more "comfort" breakfast items, for those people who want to have breakfast, and get to the airport. Even though I live far away, I keep coming back to Brix 581. It's hard to put into words how a place can feel like family, but it starts with a non-pretentious inclusive atmosphere and friendly staff, inviting you to relax and stay a while. The bar has bartenders who are welcoming to all and are just genuinely nice people. There is indoor seating, a patio area, and an upstairs dancefloor and second bar. The music varies, sometimes it's electronic music, other times its classic R&B jams. I've always enjoyed the vibe and diverse crowds the different music brings. It's the kind of place where I can go with a group, or just go and make friends once I get there. The food is always amazing. You can tell the chef has a passion for what he does. Sometimes it takes a while to get out, but it's worth the wait for flavorful comfort food, and like I said, this is a place to chill, order drinks, take your time, and enjoy the people around you! read more

This is a great brunch spot. Apparently, they're usually a nightclub but on Sundays they do brunch. Everything looked really good on the menu. I settled for pork belly and waffles. The pork belly melted in your mouth and was a good twist on chicken and waffles. Prices were reasonable. The back patio is nice especially if the weather is cooperating. Came today for Mother's Day Brunch. Did not know what to expect. All I can say is WOW!!! We had a great meal. We started with the beignets. It came with some kind of orange blossom sauce and a chocolate rum sauce. Oh my!!! I could take a bath in that chocolate rum sauce. So delicious!!!! Then they brought out a dish called savory bread pudding. This was really good. It came with a nice salad. For my main course I had pork belly (yes!!! I said pork belly) and waffles. The pork belly was cooked like fried chicken. It had a crispy skin outer layer and oh how the pork belly melted in your mouth. Came here for a special event and really enjoyed the atmosphere the place is really chill. The bartenders are all very nice and wil hook it up! As for the food... it was ok. I had the chicken and cheese plaintain sliders and it left much to be desired. I put some scotch bonnet hot sauce on it and that helped but i really wanted more from the menu and was excited for Caribbean faire but didn't quite get what i was hoping for. I will definitely try it again and maybe something more than an appetizer i hope it's yummy. read more

I came here for a First Friday after party a few months ago. I loved the vibe, people, music. 2 dance floors downstairs and upstairs. Be careful on those stairs! I almost fell going up lol. It was pretty busy for a late afternoon but it was already dark out and felt like it was 8-9 pm night. There's two dance rooms. The outdoor patio area was kinda EDM type of music. The area was heavily marked with the smell of some Skunk in the air. Very small and intimate and casual, laid back ambiance. The crowd here is like your older tattoo artist/hair stylist/ Older Oakland hipster crowd; people in their 30's - 40's. Probably like a "college" party for adults. There is also an upstairs where the DJ who played some cool 90's hip hop; a small, dark, bricked-wall studio. Drinks were super cheap and affordable; 3 drinks probably around $20. We ordered the Mac and cheese and quesadilla. There was only one cook so it took a little while but good that food was made to order. The Mac and cheese was good, not overly rich and it had bits or sausage in it. This could have been made "lazily" like your typical crappy bar food but it was pretty good this time. The quesadilla was decent as well; came out to like 4 pieces for my friends and I to share. Wish they had some fries on their menu; easier to eat and just pick at while you drink but not a big deal. After a family event, my family and I headed here to relax. The parking situation wasn't the best, but we managed to find a spot about 2 blocks away underneath the overpass. The inside is a bit cozier than my liking, but it still managed to fit close to 100 family members. The food, which had been prepared and served in trays near the narrow doorway, tasted better than it looked. I didn't eat too much, though, as I spent most of the time at the bar. This place is amazing. Great food, great drinks, great music, and great service. Stephanie is one of the owners/proprietors that we met at their other spot and has never failed to just blow us away with her amazingly positive attitude and service. They always make every patron feel at home. I highly suggest using them for large gatherings, but plan ahead with Steph, and she will take care of you. We had our wedding on a Saturday night and came here for the afterparty. They gave all our guests comp'd entry and the next day rented out tables and chairs for us to have a large party brunch in their upstairs area. Didn't charge us for the rentals and gave us a great pricing and even some comp'd drinks for our guests. Despite not preordering, the kitchen still made food for 30+ people in record time and they never stopped delivering drinks all morning. We seriously couldn't have asked for better treatment. They are amazing at Brix 581! Whether you are in the mood for some music on a weekend night, or some football and mimosas on Sunday this is definitely the place to be! read more
