This place probably has had it's time. Definitely looks like its gone down hill as we would not return. Famous for fish and chips and this is why we went... but Long John Silvers gives you a hush puppy and 10 times better... ha. Wife had the ribeye steak and was over cooked and no flavor. Definitely don't waste your time if your on vacation! read more

Disappointed!!!! Our "hot spot" served us cold sides (beans, veggies, fries) and the Bangers were as small as d....'s/bangers on a winter night I believe that instead of three bangers of different types I was served three of the same,,,, and that based on prior experiences here as well as knowing my bangers Not that it was a busy night.... it was not. Just found out the neighboring table had the same problem. I guess we can argue that the chef was consistent.... read more

I always go here with my grandparents and my parents when my grandad needs a nip and something to pull him away from the Golf Channel. The food is very good and the pints and mixes (black and tan, black velvet, snake bite) are good as well. Like Annie, I'm a bit thrown off by the mini flat screens in each booth. All in all, it's nice to have something cozy like this when you are used to sweating each day during the South Carolina Summer. read more

There's something about this place that makes you want to burst through the door and sound off with a resounding "BULLY" like one might do in jolly ol' England. A great spot for an after dinner pint with the mates, or a quiet dinner with the misses. While the English are not known for the exquisiteness of their cuisine, the British Open Pub offers fare with an Southern American touch that is sure to please even the most discerning palate. The bar is expansive and complete, well stocked with whatever your heart desires. Try a Bass Ale or Guinness if you want to make your European evening complete. read more

Delicious chicken and chips. Wait staff was incredibly friendly. We sat right away and had a blast. My parents had fish and chips and loved it. read more

Nice atmosphere, but average food. You can't them though, it's British style food!!!

This place is awesome. Nice cozy atmosphere, great service and great food. We had the Prime Rib dinner which is available on Wednesday's. Cooked perfectly and served with a delightful salad, fries and sauteed vegetables. Next day we decided to try their 8oz burgers. Really, the best burger I have ever had! Their fries are served hot and taste great--especially the sweet potato fries. Don't miss out!! read more

We sat at the bar and service was great, couldn't have been better. Both my wife and i ordered fish and chips and were not disappointed. Fish was fresh, thick and crispy. Fries/chips were also very good. Food came out piping hot, actually had to wait a bit to dig in. Prices were fair, food very good, and service was great. read more

Favorite restaurant on the island! Steaks to die for. The lobster roll has huge hunks on lobster. Sweet potato fries sweet as a dessert. Wednesday night prime rib a must have for any trip. Rarely a long wait and very reasonable prices. Plus the ambiance makes me feel I'm at St. Andrews. read more

We like this restaurant so much. We first came last year because our concierge hotel recommend to us... this year we are back and ready to enyoy the delicious beef pub. I am also ordering french onion soup I promise I will update this note .... The Royal Lytham Cottage Pir, beef peas and carrots cover with mashed potatoes, is delicious... a MUST Try I will say it comes with a side of salad and bread. Perfect size for lunch or dinner ( i dont now if the size will change for dinner). I also order franch onion soup because It was on the daily chef suggestions. Everything tasty ... my hubby is getting Kir Lime Pie for dessert I will stay with my water with lemon this time I know you will enjoy this rest. read more

This is a very gold British Pub. Mostly based on golf. Food is 4 out of 5. Service is 5 out of 5. Price is 4 out of 5. We will be back again. The B.O.P. wings were big and tasty. The mild sause was not to hot. Had the bleu chess dressing was not needed, but tasty as well. Salad was a side salad, dressing was very good. My girlfriend had the Seafood Platter. It was broild, and she really liked it. And the sweet potato fries were good. The waitress was Julie, fun and friendly! Very nice lay. read more

We were definitely looking forward to enjoying fish and chips from this place while visiting the Atlantic coast. After a day of travel we called at 5:30 PM and were assured that they were not busy and we would not need reservations and "just come In whenever you're ready". At 6:30 PM we arrived, only to find the place packed, and were told "since you don't have a reservation it will be a 45 minute wait". I reminded the girl that she told me an hour before that they were not busy and we wouldn't NEED a reservation. She denied that. So we left, and had the most AMAZING dinner at the nearby Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse. A different meal, but one we HIGHLY recommend! read more

Unfortunately our lunch was terrible. The fish and chips was touted as the best but it was dripping in grease and nearly inedible. The nachos came with a little container of salsa and sour cream. The beef was unseasoned and totally bland. There was very little cheese and quite flavorless. I would never go back read more

Beware the prices featured on their website are not the actual prices in the restaurant. I learned the hard way. Seeing the Wednesday Prime Rib special advertised on their website I didn't even look at the menu and just ordered it. Well to my surprise when the bill came and it was $3.00 higher than expected I asked the waitress to bring it to management's attention. After informing me that management was now aware the increased price was staying the same. What a shame, I'm a local and have dined there often, well no longer! My 20+% tip dropped down to 15%, hopefully management will make it up to the server, but I doubt they will. read more

Please stop in with our family of five. They were very friendly. The food was excellent. Not too pricey. We enjoyed the atmosphere. We will definitely be back. read more

This was our second time here. The food is amazing. Really wanted the mushroom pie but they were out. That sucked. I'd give it 5 stars if they weren't vacuuming while we were eating. It was only 930pm and they close at 10. Kinda tacky. read more

The fish and chips here are phenomenal! Fresh flaky fish, light flavorful batter, and it comes out hot! The chips are well seasoned and crisp. Four stars since it took a really long time to get our food and the service wasn't as attentive with keeping our drinks filled. But food is great! read more

Food is ok here, but service needs some help. I know they get busy, but do not like feeling rushed through dinner (waitress left a check right after our meal without asking if we chanted coffee or dessert...). That being said, English classics are winners here, especially fish and chips. read more

We stopped into the British Open pub for a quick drink because we were early for our dinner seating. Sat at the end of the bar patiently waiting to be taken care of. A few minutes go by and we're haven't been acknowledged at all by the older gentleman behind the bar. We finally say something to him after 5 minutes and he responds w/ "I'm to busy to get to you so it'll be at least 5 more minutes". I thought it was an April fools joke but in reality it was not. We immediately left and will not return if that older man is working behind the bar again. Poor customer service, and this is coming from a current bartender. It's a great restaurant and has great food but the service at the bar is terrible. read more

We were very pleasantly surprised at how good of a meal we had. We went on Wednesday which is Prime Rib night so it was busy. So reservations recommended but had no wait for outside seating. We not only had excellent Prime Rib but also the Orange glazed salmon was spot on. Lobster roll was fresh with a ton of meat. And the Pub Wellington's were very tasty. And the sides were all good especially the potato casserole and the sweet potato fries. We were so impressed we had to try dessert. We did the apple pie and the chocolate bread pudding. We loved the apple dish warm with ice cream. The bread pudding was good but a bit strong on the Brandi sauce and could have used a bit of ice cream to compliment. Service was very good. Overall super pleased and will definitely make this part of our HHI meal rotation! read more

Love this place. They have a fantastic Sunday brunch. Food was great along with being a great value. Service was superb. Everyone working there was nice. Definitely recommend! read more

Service and food we're both amazing, huge portion of fish and chips lightly battered large white flaky cod was really tasty, would highly recommend it!! read more

It's just stupid good. Expect a HOT meal that is very satisfying. I had the chicken pot pie and wife had the beef cottage pie. Outstanding. 4 stars because my side of mashed potatoes was not hot (probably sitting there waiting for my pot pie to come out of oven). But the gravy had great taste. Bloody Mary was just average. I'll go back and back and back. They seemed to take reservations (at least I saw them doing so on NYE). Relatively limited seating, so you might consider calling ahead. Lots of nice golf memorabilia on the walls. read more

When we come to Hilton Head Island (usually a couple times a year) we always go to the British Open at least once for lunch. We sit at the bar and enjoy a Guinness. often start with a scotch egg. Had fish and chips yesterday, that were really good. Joe the bartender is friendly and provides great service. Just a really comfortable environment with a golf touch but you don't have to be a golfer to eat / drink here. read more

I am a local but haven't been at this place for years. Decided to try it for an early dinner. Not a very friendly welcome but waitress was pleasant. I ordered cod sandwich without the cheese and hubby had fish n chips. The fish was greasy and not all that hot (temperature). The cod had a crispy batter but the fish itself was not cooked enough for me. I ended up with a BLT since for whatever reason, this sandwich came with bacon. Hubby ate what he could of fish but his was more greasy. Except for the cottage fries, it was one disappointing meal. Won't go back. Like most of the island restaurants, it is overpriced with mediocre food. read more

Ordered seafood platter broiled, food was chewy. Waitress blamed us for not letting her know the first time she approached table, but the food hadn't been tried yet. Said she had to charge us for the salad and shrimp as sides since they were eaten...ridiculous, not our fault. Lobster roll is good but messy. Onion rings aren't worth the money, came out cold. read more

So far on this trip the British Open Pub is the best place we have eaten by far. We went for Sunday brunch and got bottomless Mimosas to start off. I don't have much experience with scones but so far this place has the best scones I've ever had, I will Judge all other scones on these and if we ever come back to Hilton Head we will come back at least for scones. The brunch meal was good, my steak and eggs were perfect with a great thick toast to accompany them. The only negative about the meal was that 2/4 in our group who got eggs, were almost too overdone and almost over hard when they had ordered over medium, not a big deal unless you want some yolk but then don't get any! Service was great and the atmosphere of this place is awesome. read more

Very disappointed! 1 bathroom and the staff took total control of that! Food was just ok. The head waitress was rude. We were told that they needed our seats for a reservation after we ordered. With so many places on this island not sure how this place does business?! read more

After biking along William Hilton Parkway we found this restaurant in the back of a nice shopping district. A very extensive menu with reasonable prices. We enjoyed a house signature fish and chips along with daily specials of she crab soup and lobster roll. All of our items were perfectly prepared and were quite tasty. They have a nice indoor bar and dining section along with outdoor dining which we enjoyed. Jennifer, our waitress, was professional and friendly. A definite return place for us. read more

It's unapologetically Anglophilic golfer bar/restaurant. No problem there. The menu was ambitious, but missed the mark. My Martini was unsubtle and had ice floating in it. The Reuben was made with low-fat supermarket corned beef. Sheesh! The fish in the fish and chips was beautiful and perfect. I didn't understand the chips: they looked like they were extruded in a Pla-Doh machine (could be authentic, but my ignorance shows here). They lose a star for TVs (I'd take another half because there was a TV mounted in the booth, but they get it back for good service). There's more on the menu I'd like to try, but probably won't because the children went home hungry (having hated the batter on the chicken and fish and only ate the weird chips). Bonus praise for cider on draft. read more

Four of us went for dinner our last night at Hilton Head. Found this place on yelp and thought we would try it. Well, what a surprise! The food was all fabulous! Shepherds' pie, Fish and chips , Steak and Mushroom pie, and Lobster pie. I am a lobster snob and absolutely loved this dish. I highly recommend this place. We had a bread pudding to share and all loved it. The service was top notch. Tvs all had golf on. Loved it!!! read more
