Buyer Beware of Brinks Oil My experience with Brinks Oil was extremely disappointing. In December 2025, I contacted them because I needed to close out an old sand-filled oil tank on my property. I purchased my home 22 years ago and did not have the original paperwork from the previous owners regarding the tank. I explained this to Brinks, and they told me that if I could locate the paperwork, the process would be simple and easy to close out. Although it seemed unlikely after so many years, I went to the city and was able to obtain old permits related to the tank. When I called Brinks back with this information, they suddenly changed their story and claimed there were two tanks on the property that would need to be addressed. I provided proof showing there was only one tank. Then, after I provided that documentation, I was told that the soil contamination levels were too high and that remediation would be required. They even opened a case with the state. Concerned, I sought a second opinion from another environmental company. They reviewed the situation and advised me that the levels were actually acceptable for a tank that had been sand-filled over 22 years ago. Unfortunately, because Brinks had already opened a state file, the matter still needed to be properly closed out. Brinks then wanted an additional $5,000 to perform work that I no longer felt was necessary. At that point, I lost confidence in them and hired another company to complete the process. From the beginning, it felt like new issues kept appearing every time I provided the documentation they requested, and it seemed more focused on generating additional fees than helping resolve the problem. Most of my communication was with Frank and Connor. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage homeowners to get a second opinion before agreeing to any additional work or costs. read more

EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL & ENTITLED WORKERS. I'm a security officer for an elementary school in Hillside. I came outside to place cones for our school buses and noticed two large Brink Vehicles parked in our bus spots. I asked the man that got out of one of the trucks if he could park elsewhere because this is a school zone and I have buses with children pulling up. He tells me "I'll move up in a couple minutes once the tow truck moves ". Me being COURTEOUS I told him I'll wait a few minutes for the Brinks tow truck to move. Over 20 minutes pass and the worker never returned to move the trucks. By this point it is time for my busses to drop the children off, so I approached the man once again asking him to move his vehicles from the unauthorized school zone (yes there are no parking signs here) . The worker proceeds to stick his middle finger up at me and flip me off and continued to walk to the customer's house. EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL. I told him I'll just have their vehicles towed and called the Hillside PD non emergency number for a tow truck to come . Once I made it know that I'll just have them towed he got back in the truck and moved it to the clients driveway. When he could've done that from the beginning... All of this is recorded on the school exterior cameras. Between all the negative reviews they have, you would think they'd do better. Very unprofessional. read more

Don't ignore these one star reviews, these people are a nightmare, and you will be better off hiring literally anybody else. I hired brinks to remove 2 oil tanks from my basement, which were removed on 10/14. Brinks stated they would return by the 10/17 to pick the tanks. Supposedly only 2-3 days layer. These tanks ended up sitting in my yard nearly a month. Brink finally followed up asking for payment on the balance on 11/9 - 26 DAYS LATER. I directed them to bill my credit card on file for the balance, and reminded them the tanks needed to be picked up. Tanks were finally picked up on 11/12. As you'll see in the attached email screenshot, I didn't even ask to withold payment despite the job not being completed. On Friday 5pm November 15th, I receive a phone call from their collections attorney. (Transcript screenshot attached). Upon speaking with this attorney on today, it turns out that Brinks referred me to collections one day BEFORE they even picked up the tanks. So they actually sent a collections attorney after me even though I had already told them they could run my card, and even though they had yet to finish the work. To anyone who thinks this is to far fetched to believe, the screenshots of the actual emails are attached to this review. To recap, they left tanks sitting in my driveway for a month, ignored my direct permission to charge my credit card for work (permission I granted, even though they technically hadn't even finished the job yet), sent an attorney after me for the balance "owed"... and then in resolution, you guessed it, they billed my card on file. Extremely unhappy working with this team, due to their lack of transparency and poor communication. Please shop around, you will definitely get a better price. Below is what I was charged for oil tank removal and they conveniently found the soil contaminated so they had to do soil remediation. They give me a four hour window for a Friday afternoon. I'm like can we do morning at the least. Friday afternoon driving back from north jersey will be a mess. No. Ok I sit there waiting and one hour in I call for an idea on time. "The tech is on a dig" he will call you half an hour before. I waited the complete four hours and left. I never got a call or anything Monday morning I call. "The guy went home sick sorry. "We can do Tuesday. Ok Tuesday. I get a call from the tech that he is gong. Never hear anything from them after. I call the tech the next day and he's like yeah I couldn't do the test because there was debris under the front steps where the tank was. I said four empty water cooler jugs?? Yeah. I call the office and ask them what is up with their company as they are so unprofessional. She says they have pictures of debris under the steps. I said of what? Four empty water jugs?? Your tech couldn't just move four empty plastic water jugs? You guys are a joke. They tell me it's not their job and a liability lol good thing I called and was not sitting waiting for results because I would have never known. I recently worked with Brinks, and I am extremely pleased with my experience and would highly recommend them 1000%. I contacted Brinks because my realtor recommended them to me. I was under contact to sell my house in Jersey City Heights, NJ, and had a 20-year decommissioned oil tank in the front of the house that needed to be removed prior to closing. I had no idea where to start, was extremely stressed out because of this, and after calling 3 companies to get quotes, including the original company that decommissioned the tank, I went with Brinks. Why? Let me just say: everyone at Brinks was extremely helpful and diligent in their communication, procedures, and tank removal. They were communicative, honest, and gracious when I spoke with them, and that put me at ease. Outstanding customer service. I live out of state, so this was very important to me. From acquiring permits, corresponding with the city (not an easy feat), scheduling the removal, testing the soil, disposing of the tank, creating the report for the city, and repairing the sidewalk, I had absolutely no worries in this stressful process and was very pleased. I flew back to NY/NJ for the removal of the tank (highly recommend if you live out of state) and the workers were very skilled and knew exactly what they were doing; seasoned professionals. Even my partner (who builds schools for a living and has had dozens of tanks removed from properties) was very pleased. The tank had some contamination (which was normal, and they warned me about the possibility), but they assured me that everything would be okay. The entire process went smoothly and they kept me up to speed with costs the whole time. I even got texts with pictures after I left once the concrete had been repaved! If you are looking to sell your home with a tank on the property and need it removed, CALL BRINKS. They seem to be subject matter experts at their main services. However city records show they've left some markings in front of my residence for a non-active project. I think their processes should consider the removal of markings that are no longer needed or their processes are not being followed by their field technicians. We hired Brinks to remove an oil tank from an investment property we purchased in Union City. The job was tough. The tank was buried underneath a city sidewalk. It was on a small city street which required a lot of logistics. The city was even worse, they had unreasonable expectations and changed the date of the job on us at the 11th hour. Throughout all of this turmoil the entire staff at Brink's was top notch. Their admin staff (shoutout to Marla) always picked up the phone when we called, answered our questions, and followed up when needed. Frank Abate was a pleasure to work with, as he ultimately helped navigate through the city approvals we needed to get the job approved. Finally, on the big day, when the job proved to be more difficult than expected, the team stayed ALL NIGHT to make sure it was done correctly to strict city specifications. We received our "No Further Action" letter about a month and a half after the job was complete. I would 110% recommend Brink's Tank Services to anyone looking to remove a tank in the North NJ area. Beware of this company. I would give zero stars if it was an option. Used them to remove oil tank on deceased mother's property. But here is the catch, in NJ, if a tank is deemed to have seepage and oil contamination you will be forced to remediate the issue - i.e. pay more money for further investigation. Who makes the determination- the very company that removes your tank thus providing incentive to find a problem. Brinks' quote came in well below other companies. We should have been warned when another company upon learning we were going with Brinks said "watch out for those upcharges." We paid Brinks about 5k to remove the tank. Our family was present when workers said the tank looked good. Lo and behold they reported there were holes in the tank and they had to test the soil, finding contamination well above legal amount. They told us it would cost another 21k to remediate, but said they still might have to do more and that we may have to pay more than that. We had no choice but to remediate because once they say you have high levels of contamination they file a case number with DEP and you cannot sell your home until issue is resolved . We believed them and went to their office to make a partial payment. Fortunately we were selling the home and a realtor got hold of the report to discover there were no holes in the tank, thus there was no reason to ever test the soil. We immediately stopped payment but because we now had a case with DEP, we had no choice but to retest the soil. The potential buyers of the home did their own test and we hired another company recognized by state of NJ to do a soil test. Our results pretty much matched the buyers' results which showed absolutely no contamination. The whole process put us out another 5k plus. We were fortunate we were able to move forward and sell home to buyers who really wanted it but that is the catch. Brinks knew we were selling the home and would come into money- we later found out that is how they prey on sellers. They hope you are desperate enough to do and pay whatever they say just to sell the home. This delayed our sale by six months. We took Brinks to court and won our case. Every step of the way they tried to stall - changing court dates, not showing in court, etc. Then they tried not to pay forcing us to put a levy on their bank account. To date we have collected most of the money but they closed the bank account found by the sheriff's office to prevent collection of balance. We continue our fight to get every dime. Do not trust this company. Sellers are an easy target to them as most do not remove a tank or test soil until they are ready to sell their home. Brinks' hope is that by then you are desperate and will do anything to close. We were able to hold out because there was no mortgage on the property so we could afford to wait and we had wonderful buyers willing to wait it out. As a family we were unified and we knew what they were doing was so unfair that we could not let them get away with it. We did not hire an attorney for court as not to spend one more time and fortunately justice prevailed. But do not risk it. Never use Brinks. read more

Brink's oil tank detection service is awful! Their tank sweeps, sonar scans, and evaluations can't tell a below grade oil tank from some innocuous scrap under the ground! They provided scan reports and evaluations that that turned out to be 100% inaccurate-flat out wrong! If you are a home buyer, home seller, or realtor beware of their so-called expert evaluations and services. Again, don't trust their scanners and reports. They scanned and reported there was a six foot steel oil tank under the property. Their ineptitude cost an honest homeowner to needlessly waste THOUSANDS of dollars to find about 30 cents worth of chicken wire below the surface. Stay away, far away as you can. I tried to work with them, I spoke with the laborers and the foreman. Everything was going fine till they came to the Tank. I wont bore you with the details but we did see oil and the hole in the tank. I have photos . They took the tank refilled the hole with garbage (empty plastic compost bags ). Then they took dirt samples, not from the hole but from the bottom of the tank. Of course The results came back as bad as possibly be. OK , that costed $1,250. to start. And another $8,500 for remediation and guess what? Another $8,000. to dig a well because the dug down so far they hit bedrock. It's NJ state law that if they hit bedrock the must dig a well. I feLet like I was being taken for a ride and said so. The owner of the company stopped by to smooth things over and here I thought it was a conversation, no, I was wrong again. He came to "little lady" me, like it's beyond my comprehension . He asks me a question and when I attempt to answer he I speaks over me, 3 times. He was there to listen. He wound up calling me a crazy woman and acted like he was above listening to a woman. Thank you all for reading all this. I wish I'd read the reviews before I hired them. read more

Excellent!!! That is the service provided by Brinks. My parents sold their house, moved to an assisted living facility and left behind a household full of furniture and household items, plus, plus, plus. After an estate sale and garage sale (where we thought we would make big bucks...not so) and after donating lots of goods to Good Will, Mission, and VA we had a boat load of stuff at the house. With the closing days away we called Brinks. As scheduled they delivered a 30 cubic yard roll-off container on a Wednesday. On Thursday their crew showed up (on-time) and in 4 hours the roll-off was full and the house was empty and broom swept. On Friday the roll-off was gone! What a relief for our family. Don't use them! Worst customer service, everyone there has an attitude. By the way they treat people, it doesn't seem like they want your business. Also, I ordered an oil tank sweep and my report did not include the images from the result of the scan. Even though the inspector said these would be provided in the report. Now we will need to get a second opinion (costing us more money), because they did not save the pictures and this is a being requested by the lawyers. Brinks removed an underground oil tank located under the asphalt driveway of my single family home which is pending contract for sale and they did an excellent job - very professional to work with (especially Mike). Brinks worked on obtaining the town permit (Maplewood) and worked on removing the tank swiftly and without damaging my neighbors raised cement side walk (on their side of their house) and without damaging the driveway cobblestone curb on my side of the house. They also poured a nice smoothed out layer of gravel over the area where the tank came out of. They were extremely professional with the soil testing and were reasonably priced as well as responsive to work with. I highly recommend Brinks Tank removal services. Our office recently represented a Seller who had to remove and oil tank from the property. I had contacted Brink's Tank Services to help our client since it was a super rush. The owner spoke to me directly and told me he would do everything that he could to process this as quickly as possible. He gave me the name of a person who would be in charge of this matter. She was so helpful every time I called her or e-mailed her and the work was done so quickly and we received our "No Further Action" letter which allowed us to close title due to the diligence of this company. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BRINK'S TANK SERVICES. I wish I could rate negative stars. We contracted with them to remove a decommissioned oil tank and they botched the entire job. They unnecessarily destroyed areas of our yard. They refilled with mostly rocky soil that nothing can grow in. They were completely unresponsive when we tried for weeks to get the needed documentation from them, after we paid our bill, in full. They are just not good people to work with and seem completely incompetent at their jobs. They created huge unnecessary headaches for us every step of the way. I, too, agree with Oscar.....do not do business with Brinks. His son came and did the sweep and I was told it was inconclusive. I met with the owner and he said he would have someone dig a few feet to see what he could find. Supposedly they dug 4 feet and hit rocks so they stopped...still inconclusive. He said he would have to use excavation equipment which would cost another $1,000. Brinks never called relaying information and the staff could not give any explanations to my questions. I decided to use another company. They did the sweep and varified there was a well and NOT a tank and only cost $250.00. I very strongly suggest you not use Brinks because they cannot be trusted. read more

This company is a joke and a scam. Ron has no idea what he's talking about and misleads each and every customer. He says he's been in business for all these years meanwhile I found out from another source that he's recently started doing this. Thank god I decided to not do business with this company. Agree with the other reviews 100%, only worse. Ronnie Brink (no "s" and absolutely no relationship to the reputable Brinks company I thought I was hiring) tried to get another $25,000 from me after calling in the wrong test results to the DEP. I tried for 3 months to get answers and yes it was nearly impossible to get a call back from anyone at BTS. Then when my lawyer hired another company to re-test everything and I informed them, i finally got a call back from Ronnie, and he was all over the DEP to rescind his so-called "test results" and file a clean test report. But still had to pay the other company to re-test. Ronnie said i didn't have to pay him but we'll see. And of course that's not the point! If i wasn't all over the DEP, and the original testing company, and didn't hire the new company, i could have very easily paid the $25,000 because i needed the sell the house and would have had no other choice.
