I contacted Sessa on the morning of May 27, 2011. My toilet's flushometer had failed, so we were…read morehaving a nice little emergency. Sessa sent Ben out a few hours later. Ben was not just a very capable plumber; he was also extremely intelligent and friendly. He spent more than 2 hours on this project. He could have just replaced the defective part of my old residential-grade flushometer; but he gave me the option to upgrade to a commercial-grade flushometer. The cost of the upgrade was double the cost of replacing the defective old part (approximately $600.00 versus $300.00), but I chose the upgrade because Ben showed me the parts that compose the Sloan Royal flushometer as well as the parts that compose the old Rex flushometer and I could see that the Sloan was much superior to the Rex. I cannot praise Ben enough. When I was not satisfied with the too little amount of water that the new Sloan was producing with each flush, which was happening because the Sloan, designed for commercial use, was generating just 1.6 gallons per flush whereas I was used to double that amount, Ben consulted his manager, and they improvised a work-around whereby Ben disabled the Sloan's shut-off valve so that the amount produced per flush approximated the amount to which I was accustomed. Praise must also go to Ellen, the office receptionist, who handled this whole situation with great professionalism. Speaking of professionalism, Sessa runs a highly professional operation. The prices for every kind of repair are in a large binder, so there can be no issue of an employee charging whatever he feels like charging. Also, the 6-year warranty on parts & labor that Sessa provides is at least twice what I believe most other service providers offer, whether they are in the plumbing business or some other business. For that reason, and taking into account the excellent quality of the work Sessa performs, I consider their prices, while high, to be quite reasonable. I know from experience that Sessa reliably and capably honors its warranty. About a week after Ben installed the replacement flushometer, it failed. I called Sessa and Ben showed up at my home within two hours, made some adjustments, and my toilet has been working perfectly ever since.

I will definitely use them again even for small electrical jobs around my house. Gus the owner of the company is very nice and has many years experience in the electrical field especially with older homes and older wiring systems. Although my job was expensive, I believe that Gus gave me a fair and reasonable cost estimate and the job they completed was worth every penny charged. Gus' the owner made sure that the job was completed according to NYC code and was done the proper way. Gus' crew (Tony, Joey, & Joey) are awesome and they all worked very hard to complete the job within the expected time frame. The crew was very professional and they cleaned up as the work progressed. I recommend avoiding this business. The boiler unit installed was a model that has a very low…read moreefficiency rating. This translates into money being wasted each time the unit turns on. They removed the original cast iron piping and selectively replaced the header section with copper tubing--very poor design. Furthermore, the copper tubing was installed slopy, and facocked, and chances are will fail. They piped two equalizers in because they refused to remove one of the originals. The unit was slapped together and set on a sloppy quickcrete bed. The wiring controls were unfinished with just wire nuts, no emergency shut off was provided, just a local shut off on the unit. The drain plug was just a hose bib that was not extended below the return header, which is dangerous because you can scold your hand easily. The boiler cold water fill was piped without an manual by-pass, and no back flow preventer. Had I been home when this plumber installed the unit, I would have pointed out these items. But I have had to repair all of these items at my own cost and on my own time. When I called the company back, all i received was either an answering machine, or a fellow who told me that he is "very very busy" as he was talking me down. I wish services like YELP were around when I had my unit installed. This business slapped the unit in, got paid and never turn around to look back, and for these reasons, I give them a rating of 1, which should be a zero if zeros existed on this site.

Let me get something off my chest: I know nothing about plumbing. Thank goodness for Matthew, the…read moreowner of Flo-Rite, who is incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and all-around professional. Communication (5/5): I am a big fan of using Yelp to find businesses for a job or project and this experience reinforced that. Matthew was prompt to reply, answer my questions, and provide a COI upon request. Additionally, I've been told by other plumbing professionals and hobbyists that Grohe products (such as the one in my shower) can be finicky -- but Matthew assured me beforehand that he has worked with this brand before and understands the potential challenges with it. Job (5/5): Matthew arrived exactly on time for the scheduled appointment to replace the thermostatic valve in my Grohe shower. In less than an hour, he replaced the faulty valve, recalibrated the temperature handle, and successfully tested the shower temperature. Knowledgable (5/5): We thought our water shut off valve was behind our trash. Turns out that is just our hot water shut off. Matthew quickly found the cold water shut off under our sink. He went above and beyond and explained how the to properly turn off our water without breaking it, which was quite helpful to learn! Professional (5/5): Matthew was courteous and a true professional. This may sound basic, but I've had contractors and technicians make a mess in our apartment. Not this time -- Matthew wiped his feet on a towel after stepping out of the shower to not track water everywhere. Those little things really add up and make a difference to me. Value (5/5): We received some quotes from other plumbers which were outrageous. Matthew's quote was right in the middle compared to others and I feel it was of excellent value. After finishing he said he always wants the job to be done correctly and if something bad happens afterwards he works with the individual to make it right. I appreciate that confidence and workmanship in a business. TL;DR: I will be calling Matthew for all my plumbing needs in the city. He's a truly knowledgable professional and I recommend him to all!
