On May 19, 2021 I had a new home security system installed and called the outgoing company (Brinks Home Security) to cancel my service. Sounds easy enough right? From the very first customer service individual I encountered, when they heard that I was canceling my service, they proceeded to collect some basic data, and then said "oh I can't complete this request I'll have to transfer you". I was transferred to 3 different employees and could tell by design that any customer wanting to cancel was going to be met with resistance. The final individual that I spoke with was the most abrupt (hiding behind "I'm just doing my job) and "tone deaf" I've ever encountered. He flat out refused to process my cancellation request unless I sat for an 15 minute exit interview when I work full-time and was calling Brinks in between meetings. He actually had the gall to say, "well if you can't complete the exit interview today then why don't you call back tonight when you're not working". This was the most frustrating part of the entire encounter. He even berated the competitive company that I decided to utilize and kept pushing additional discounts. What part of "I wish to cancel my service" does Brinks not understand. He finally relented and told me that I would receive, and would be required to execute a Docusign email which never came. The marketing department continued to send me offers to reduce my monthly service cost combined with phrases like "we're sorry to see you go". I figured I was finally rid of them. Yeah - no!
So you can imagine my concern when I got an invoice via email today. When I finally connected with the billing department, they said my account had not been cancelled because I did not return the requested Docusign document, which again, I never received. I was told today to look for an email within the next 24 hours so that I could complete my requested cancellation from May 19th. And again, the "can we reduce your bill to stay" emails began again. Oh and here's the kicker. When the new system was installed, I was informed that 20 of the original sensors being monitored by Brinks on the windows and doors weren't even working. Wouldn't you think that a security company being paid to protect my family and home would know? I will NEVER even consider using Brinks in the future. Stay away!! read more
