We used Tom and his crew for a bathroom remodel in SF.
The Good: Tom was communicative, responded to texts/emails in a generally timely manner, was willing to work with our requirements, and had good taste -- we could rely on him to make good decisions on our behalf, and to, whenever possible, come to us with any decisions that needed to be made. He stood behind his work, sometimes a little reluctantly, but in the end, made everything right.
The Bad: Tom was not so great at time estimation, although I think he learned a lot from this specific job. The job ended up taking significantly longer than expected. Some of that was due to scope change by us, but some of it was due to some of the subs that Tom chose.
The highlight of the remodel was his tile sub -- excellent work, even though they sometimes had to be pulled to the finish line by Tom and us. The weakest part was the plumber he used -- went on vacation in the middle of the job without telling anyone. The plumbing work itself was generally high quality, but again, had to be dragged to that finish line, reluctantly.
The pricing was fair. The process was clear, and they worked with us all the way through until they knew we were happy. In the end, that's the most important of any engagement with a contractor. Are you happy when it's all done?
