We play youth hockey near this restaurant and after several trips of bypassing it we finally checked it out. It has a diner vibe with a limited menu around hot dogs, burgers and fries. The restaurant is fairly dated but that gives it some charm. The parking lot and access is fairly crammed in a the commerical area of Cranberry. We were hungry and went a little overboard with our order. We tried the hot dogs, burgers, fries, pastachilli and drinks. We sat at the counter and our waitress was awesome, a typical character - which is what I love about the Pittsburgh area. She stayed on us throughout our experience and helped us through the unknown as most people here looked like seasoned vets. I really enjoyed the burger, the fresh cut fries and their chilli sauce. The burger patty was thin and similar to smash burgers. My wife raved about the pastachilli which was just fusilli pasta smothered in their chilli sauce. Soda even came in souvenir plastic drink cups which we happily took. Even better -- our bill for 3 was $35 plus tip. We left more than full and had a great trip. It's not anything special, pretty standard hot dog and burger shop, with the two being nothing to write home about, however, it was still fun to try! Both my husband and I got a burger, a large fry and shared a hot dog. Neither of us care for hot dogs much, but given that it's part of the name, we had to try one. The burgers were everything you'd expect from a cheap diner, the fries were plentiful and the hot dog was boiled or steamed rather than grilled, which is for sure not my favorite. Haha! The service was fast and our waitress was very friendly. The restaurant was clean, though dated, but that is all part of the atmosphere I'd say. Prices were more than reasonable. I stopped in for lunch on a weekday while traveling from Pittsburgh to Grove City. Having never been here before, I wasn't familiar with the ordering process, nor the menu that was hanging on a wall. The waitress was borderline rude in explaining to me to look at the menu on the wall and explaining what "everything" on a hot dog really was (It's not "everything" as the word suggests, it's simply chili and onions). The food was really tasty though! The hot dogs were hot and fresh on a nicely warmed bun. The chili on the dogs was excellent too. The cheeseburger was made with really good meat and it tasted great, even though it came with "everything" on it and that's not what I meant when I asked for "everything." I was referring to having mustard, ketchup, tomato, pickles, etc on it. The fries are fresh and they were great too. Kind of bad that the service was snobby and poor, because the food was great. Brighton came recommended. We avoided the crowds on game day by getting a carry out. The window line was long so we went inside to order. We ordered nine hotdogs, some with chili and onions, and one plain, and a hamburger with two orders of fries, one topped with chili. I didn't care for the chili fries. This is a solid pick if you're looking for a quick, cheap lunch. The fresh-cut fries are super good and the cheese sauce isn't the instant stuff I was used to having -- it was way better! Very good! Stoped here on a whim after driving to find a Jimmy john's which ended up being closed. I ordered 2 hot dogs 1 with chilli, onions and cheese and the other with japs and kraut. Also ordered a cheeseburger with mustard, mayo and onions. The burger was definitely a homemade patty not one that comes preshapen in a bag. We both ordered cheeseburgers, as we remembered them being good. We remembered well, because they were hot and fresh and had good flavor. We shared a small fries, which are like fair fries, and were also hot and fresh. Since I like environmentally friendly places, my gripe here is the hard plastic cup in which our drink was served. Unless they recycle them, it's such a waste to use cups like that. I also have to think they are more expensive, and who wants to take those cups home with them. This is the place to come for quick service on a budget. There is a drive thru option but my wife and I elected to eat in this evening. It has been there for a long while and has a comfortable retro vibe to it. Plenty of counter space with stools along with booths and another room for overflow. It is very clean, well kept and very busy from 10:30 to 1:30 which speaks well for their hot dogs with steamed buns and excellent hamburgers, chili, skinny fries and of course milk shakes although I usually go for their excellent ice tea. I was up in this area of Pennsylvania at Jergels for a concert a few months ago when I noticed a sign that read "Hot Dog Shoppe" in the old school way that "The O" in Pittsburgh used to display. So of course I had to stop in and see what this place was all about. It's an old school diner-style place with VERY cheap food, which is why I'm giving them a 3-Star review. The hot dogs however? They reminded me of boiled hotdogs from Giant Eagle with Giant Eagle brand buns, and condiments. There was really nothing special about them at all. Now, given the Surgeon General's warning, you have not lived if you have never dined at one of the many western PA Brighton Hot Dog restaurants! Yes, the hot dogs are awesome! I love Texas Lunch style hot dogs and these are one of the best! However, with options such as cheese, chili and other basic condiments available, you are sure to create a delicious dog. FYI, the burgers are nearly as good as the dogs! Hot, juicy and tasty! Don't stop there though. An order of fries are enough for two to share and are also incredible, especially if you like fair fries. Did I mention the milkshakes? They are as good or better than you will find at most ice cream stores. The prices are extremely reasonable and service is fast. I would not suggest make eating here a weekly practice. This restaurant fell in the middle of our "Fast Food Crawl". My friends have raved about it and I have been itching to try it out. Unfortunately, because I had filled up on other fast food, the last thing I wanted was a hot dog, the exact thing they are known for! Instead, I ordered the wedding soup which wasn't bad! It was a decent portion for the price and had decent flavor. It was served in a plastic bowl that was made to look like a crock. Our waitress was pleasant and very intrigued with our outing and informed all the other employees on our adventure. It provided for easy conversation with the staff. Though I did not have a hot dog, I did see the hot dogs my friends ordered. They were so small they almost got lost in the bun! The topping choices were endless and they can pretty much be mixed and matched. A bonus was that you could take home the plastic cups that the drinks were served in! The setup of the restaurant was very different than I anticipated. When walking in, there was a counter where you could order take out. If dining in, you paid at this counter after your meal. There was a seating area if you wanted to receive service with a U shaped 'bar' style that allowed employees to be surrounded by the customers and not have to walk all over the place. There was an additional seating area that was full of tables that was blocked off at the time of our arrival. It's easy to get to right off the turnpike with lots of parking. They don't really have a big menu and prices are reasonable. I tried the hotdog with sauerkraut it was $1.65 and was really good but it was really thin I could probably eat 5 of them. They also have milkshakes that people say are really good.
