We were unsatisfied with the preschool program that he…read morewas in so we looked around to see if there was a place that would offer ABA therapy and be full-time as his preschool was part-time and often didn't have class due to administrative days and what not which was really frustrating. There aren't that many ABA centers that provide full day services and when I visited some of them they looked so cold and clinical. When I visited Ally I got a better, more personalized feeling since it was more open and you would see kids playing. They have great communication and I can always speak to the BCBA when I need to and the teachers are great. Additionally, when most preschools/day care centers were closed early on and often stayed closed in the pandemic, they were only briefly closed and were able to go back to providing in-home services which was great since as we all know that the pandemic has had a negative impact on kids with ASD due to lack of available/in person services. They have also been taking precautions during the Pandemic which is great. Although my son got off to a rocky start due to the new environment and change in schedule (to be expected with a kid with ASD), with each day we saw improvement. Over the past two years he has been at the center, he has become a more social, active, talkative little boy. We were sad to leave this past fall because we had such a great experience, but he has been thriving in kindergarten due to the foundation that was built at Ally. All in all this is a great place and if you're looking for quality ABA center, Ally Behavior Centers is the way to go.

One of the biggest problems that I had was with the kids who went there. A lot of them acted like…read morelittle children (in the same manner a lower schooler would act) and were extremely immature and annoying. I remember the teacher telling students to walk down a hallway without acting out, which we had to redo. At lunch period during my senior year, they were running around & were completely out of control. When we read Shakespeare, some of the kids in my class would read it in a Jamaican accent & they would start laughing. Almost everybody would constantly laugh at things that were said & certain words in Hamlet which weren't funny. I don't think it was fair that I had to be in the same classroom as the rest of them. One of the most embarrassing things to deal with was at my time at KTHS was going to field trips. Some people would laugh at us because of the way some people acted. They also seemed to have never grown up. A lot of them liked to talk about things that I stopped being interested in when I was 11 or 12. When I was waiting at the bus stop, my classmates would throw Cheetos & sticks on the road & laugh when somebody ran over it. And don't get me started on the outbursts during class. I gave specific examples of what I had to deal with, but it was all day, every day, a lot all the time. For most of my day I had to deal with either somebody acting out, being disrespectful & rude, or just being annoying. The staff were almost as bad because they were unable to properly discipline students. I don't remember kids being kicked out of class, which should have happened all the time. Sometimes support staff came into our classroom to support other students & would sit there & stare at me. They & other teaching assistants would go around the classroom & look over my shoulder at what I was working on & make sure I was doing it correctly, as if I was too stupid to do work by myself & was a little. My math teacher would yell & get angry for getting a question wrong, for not understanding something, or for other things without good cause. Everybody got very little out of math classes due to the way we were taught. During classes, I was pulled out to speak with a therapist even though I didn't want to. One of them came up to me out of the blue and angrily told me that it was my fault for my social situation because I didn't interact with the students enough. I was also taken out of the class with another student to watch tv shows to comment on what was going on as if I was too stupid to understand what was happening and one semester, most the class was taken out for speech class. During my last year, I was taken out of lunch once a week to participate in an awkward group therapy session, which was almost as bad as dealing with the students at lunch. The academics were a complete joke. A lot of the work was the same type of work that I did when I was in middle & lower school & was completely dumbed down. For instance, in my health class, the teacher gave us a paper with a human body & 4 major organs and our assignment was to label the major organs. A couple of years before when I was at a different school, I had a health teacher who taught us at a high school level, & it was extremely frustrating to go from a high school level of being taught at a lower school level. In English class we barely wrote anything and in my government class, everything was too simplified. For my history exam & quizzes there were questions such as "find California on the map" and "who made the I had a dream speech". I did not do any studying for exams. In some instances, I received high grades without trying. I remember getting a 99 percent on one of my history exams. The only exception was my math exam, which isn't surprising since I wasn't properly taught math & felt uncomfortable all of class. BTW, I really enjoyed taking Geometry & Algebra II while my younger brother (who was in middle school at the same time) was doing the exact same thing as I was. The only class that I felt was somewhat at my grade level was chemistry. I remember getting a B on my exam without studying but I don't think I received a decent chemistry education. I studied so little at KTHS that I felt guilty I passed without doing any work. I had to take a math test to graduate high school and while I was taking it, I was angry & stressed out about what was going on around me & was unable to focus and think properly. I ended up failing & had to retake the test. Thanks to KTHS, I was robbed of a high school education & a high school experience. I do not believe that I deserved to have graduated from high school because I didn't do the proper work. When I look back & think about my time at KTHS, I regret that I didn't quit high school. I now know that quitting high school would have been a better route for me, because there was no point in sitting there & not learning anything while dealing with annoying students & staff.

The school uses an "emergent" curriculum in early childhood where the subjects come from a children themselves; this approach has encouraged curiosity and interest in learning new things which, though not exactly "preparing a child for kindergarten" (as a previous reviewer stated), certainly prepares a child for life in the world. The focus on socialization and developmentally-appropriate interaction is meaningful for many of the students and families who attend. Preschools in this county struggle to toe the line between curricular rigor and age-appropriate programming, but TBANS errs on the side of age-appropriateness. The program has some drawbacks, primarily a marked lack of clear structure and routines which are of particular importance for a child with special needs and non-academic benchmarks which make assessing school readiness challenging; however, we have found the school to be willing to solicit and open to receiving feedback from a variety of partners. Though it has been a tumultuous year all around, we cannot fault TBANS for trying. Its faculty's dedication, professionalism, and care will stay with us and with our child long after he and we have moved on from preschool. Families will be in good hands at TBANS.

It is not Regio or Montessori teaching approach, and from what I've seen the teachers cut and glue the art projects, the children learn by repeating and being indoctrinated with information instead of exploring hands-on and being asked open-ended questions. We were not updated when there were issues that rose, and only found out after the fact that things were handled poorly and without any consent from the parents. This is our third child and I work in education, if you value your child's education and want them to thrive in a supportive, welcoming and communal environment, there are better options out there.

I was impressed by the brochure and website. But, when I asked my child if you did this...or did you do that?....based on the brochure. Answer was no, no...nothing, none of those! So, they are very good at marketing with fancy flyers and brochures but sadly nothing is going on. If your child is underdeveloped....can i assure you it is likely due to this school. We had made this mistake before when we thought oh...we are paying solid $$$, so probably kid will have solid fun and development. We paid solid $$$, but we got just minimum daycare from Geneva. We have seen some really good programs....so we have very good perspective on when schools are just for minting money and when school really put 100% or 200% effort to help with child development. Cmon guys....it is not hard. At least, do what you say in your brochure. How hard is it to give some bubbles, playdoh, slime or bug catching kit to kids? They cost pennies. If you will just leave the kids in the playground for free play all day....that does not help with their development. My child just reported me that some kids were CRYING ALL DAY!!!! Seriously? Where is the money going?

The testing was done on my child by a graduate student - I was told they would be fully supervised, but at every stage - including the administration of tests - it was a very disappointing and problematic experience. The report was written in the novelistic way that disclosed all kinds of things that had been given with the belief that details would be kept private. I would absolutely not use Expressive Therapy Center for psychological testing.
