Raised in this city and this building was a former pharmacy back in the days growing up!! In town for a 5k. The Food was delicious. We got to our hotel and in town later and was on the hunt for food. My aunt suggested this as Jim's steak house had a 2 hour wait due to non showing up kitchen staff. We had spectacular service from our nice lady. Beers on tap was ice cold and delicious. The kids meal pizza was fantastic! Wow. The TV's were viewable from every seat. I definitely will return to eat and drink here again when in Pitt. The place had a fantastic vibe in my perspective. Have been so many times for lunch and always enjoy my meal, but we finally had an opportunity to go back for dinner this past weekend and all of us really enjoyed our meals so much! Service was great, our cocktails were amazing, and the food was absolutely 5 star! I highly recommend the filet and the chicken and waffles. When sat down we were greeted by our kind waitress. It took a while for our drinks to come but water was provided as soon as we sat down. The food was prepared adequately and in a timely manor. When waiting we had the option on viewing the beautiful decor or the game on the tv. This place is really cool! My husband wanted to come back here because they have Prairie Bomb on tap for like $6! I got the Social G&T ($9), it is STRONG! After I got my salad I really thought I should take a picture & do a review. I got the Butternut squash & spinach salad ($10) and it was humongous! It was really good, so was my husbands Cobb salad. He really liked the Dijon dressing & neither one of us could finish the salads. The seats at the bar are really comfortable & have a back. They have several screens around the bar with various sports playing so this would be a great place to escape the heat & hang out for a while. We are new to this area and have tried a handful of restaurants to get a feel for what is out there. This place ticks all of the boxes. Great service, food, and atmosphere. I had a wonderful lemon drop martini and my husband had a red ale. Our meals had so much flavor I didn't know which I liked best. We will definitely be back and we will tell our friends and family! We share this information with hopes that the issue will be addressed. We are out to eat in Pittsburg as a family and made a simple request to have the pasta replaced with mashed potatoes due to a food allergy. The waitress applogized before delivering the news that this wasn't an option. We then asked about substituting fries or even no pasta and add on a side of potatoes (fries or mashed) and we're told no again. So of course we ask for a manager, who sadly said no with the following reasons: 1. We put a lot of thought into our menu and do not want to change it for you. 2. The cost is to much. 3. There are other options he could have on the menu. He offered for us to order steak, which Levi can't eat he chokes on it. He offered for us to order fish which Levi can't have. (Turns out we were right and it was the only option on the menu he could safley eat.) Then the manager said it was "intresting" that he can't have fish but can have shrimp. Yes, as a mom who has fought tooth and nail to keep this child healthy and alive I am irritated at this point. We are talking about potatoes here. It took more self control than you can imagine not to say something to him. He is apparently a manager with a medical degree and takes care of the chrinocally ill. I am sure that he should have an opinion on what someone is and isnt allergic to but I didn't and I am glad I was the one he was speaking with. I can only imagine how the others at our table would have reacted. Instead I asked if it would be an inconvenience to give him only shrimp on a plate with no sides. This said manager proceeded to say because of my attitude he would rather not give us any substitutions BUT he would allow only shrimp for $24. My responses: 1. I never asked for a discount. 2. I offered to pay for a side. 3. I am trying to feed my child without having to worry about an allergic reaction. This isnt about money. 4. I am not sorry for my frustrations. We eat out all over the United States with zero issues. This is literally the first place I have EVER had issues. 5. Fish and shrimp allergies are completely different. He leaves I proceed to tell the adults at the table about the conversation and it was decided that we should leave. We flag down our waitress and request the bill. The manager zeroed out the drinks & appetizer that we had ordered. Which we did not request again this was not about the money. We tried to have her charge us and she was extremely flustered and did not want to go back to her manager. SHE SHOULD NEVER BE AFRAID TO GO TO HER MANAGER. I felt so bad for her, to work for someone who makes you feel thay way is unimaginable. I've been in her shoes before with an upset customer and I remember how the manager took care of them they definitely did not make the situation worse. This is such a disappointment. We went to another restaurant, actually a new one for us and they served Levi safely without a care in the world and never once questioned or refused why we needed substitutions. It's safe to say we are breaking up with Brick + Mortor in Pittsburg, KS. I will never step foot in that restaurant again. I have made a few attempts to eat here while in town on a Saturday afternoon with no success. Now they area open Saturdays for lunch. We got seated and greeted by our server, Jordan quickly. My Arnold Palmer made with sweet tea wasn't that sweet. I decided on the prime rib sandwich with a upgrade of sweet potatoes fries for a $1. He order the bacon cheeseburger with a side salad upgrade for $2. Our food came out within a reason time as they weren't too busy. My prime rib was waaaay over cooked and flavorless. I'm not sure why they have the * by this menu item if it won't be cooked medium rare. The horseradish & au jous did help but I decided that eating the second half wasn't worth the calories. My sweet potatoes fries were the winner for both our meals. A dusting of cinnamon and with added salt made this hot fries my main course. His medium cheeseburger was over cooked as well and his free fries were soggy and room temp. His side salad was a generous potion for the upgraded price but I thought it had a salmon aftertaste. The decor was cool and our server did a good job but overall a disappointing first and last visit. read more

They were in Pittsburgh to visit family so we popped in there for lunch. I did not have any but apparently the beers that are brewed there are delicious! The place is welcoming it is a wide open area so it's a little loud as of course we wanted to talk but all was comfortable. I'd say from our food entrees the Reuben was probably the biggest hit two of us had the carnitas bowl it was tasty I would call it good. The chicken kebab plate was great and definitely on the plenty of food side. The fish tacos were okay. Nice side salads we did get a side of mac and cheese it had a unique flavor I would call it good to great. The staff was absolutely outstanding sounds like some new management in there is really making a big difference definitely will go back next time I'm in Pittsburgh. read more

The ew owners managed to screw up the rout Almandine. Not only did they jack the price from $19 they cut back the portions. Big no no in my book. Its now $26 Trout seemed to be about same size but they butchered the zucchini. Used to give you lots of squash slightly cooked but crunchy. It was served alongside the trout. It had a hefty portion of sauce with capers and toasted almonds. Enough for every bite. This time I asked the waitress where the zucchini was? Its under the trout. When I lifted the trout there was about 10 pieces of zucchini that was so thin you could see thru it. Since it was so thin and was under the hot trout, it turned to mush. Not to mention the presentation was lacking because it just looked like a piece of fish on a plate. The almonds and sauce were about 75% less than normal, and I had no capers in sight. I visited this restaurant for the first time last night with my son and husband. It was my son's 22nd birthday and I thought I had made reservations online, apparently there's not an actual way to do that but we were still told only a 30 minute wait. The hostesses were very nice in explaining to me the mishap I had made. We stepped aside to wait our turn & in less than 10 minutes one of the very nice hostesses came over and told us she was able to get us a table sooner. We had a wonderful server, very attentive and gave us advice in choosing what to order from the cocktail list and then also gave us his opinions on the entrées we asked about. Our food was amazing! My son got the braised short rib with mashed potatoes gravy and sautéed spinach. So tasty! I got the chicken and waffles which were very good. Also, if you do like a very well put together cocktail, the bartenders here are amazing. Our drinks were so good and very well-made. If you are wanting someplace quiet, I will say that the (what seem to be) locals were quite loud in competing with one another talking but we were so intrigued by our food once it arrived that we didn't notice after that lol. We came for a nice lunch and I was super impressed with the food and the service. I had the chicken kebab and the star on my plate was homemade hummus- delicious! The chicken was perfectly cooked and not dry at all. We also really enjoyed the Brussels sprouts. Be sure to try the skillet cookie, but don't touch the skillet, it's hot! We had heard good things about this place and thought we would give it a try. Toward the end of the evening on Saturday, the restaurant was steady but not slammed. Took over 45 minutes to get three meals out to us. When the food arrived, we were met with the smallest $28 6 oz filet you've ever seen. We mentioned it to the server who told us that yes it did look small but they weigh them. The pic is posted for your reference. Service wasn't great. Hummus appetizer was good, although not enough veggies to dip. My friends ordered a side salad. It was a pile of greens with very little dressing. They asked for more dressing but still not proportionate to the salad. One friend ordered the Butternut Squash Salad. They got a different experience than the other review posted here. By the time he removed another pile of greens to reach the "special" ingredients, he had what was equivalent to another side salad. What remained contained very little butternut squash or anything else special. Not a very creative chef. My other friend ordered a burger. He thought it came with fries but apparently the default side was a side salad. Why would you serve a side salad and not fries with a burger??? He ordered it medium well. So have been here quite a few times with others. We all feel the same way. Positives - Place is clean, it's very nice inside, and upscale looking without the need of a dress code though. Food plates are designed as though it was super upscale. Prices are good. Staff is nice. About 70% of what we had was really good. Hummus, wings, fish, spinach dip, and chicken were great. Negatives - service can be slow due to either lack of experience, lack of management or lack of organization. Maybe all 3. Nobody greets at door, you just assume and seat yourself. First time in, only 4 customers with 10 workers and nobody even said hi or cared we walked in. Too busy joking and paying on phones. Took 15 minutes until some people goofing off in back came up and asked if we had been helped. Overall it was over an hour to order and leave when the place was empty. (THIS WAS THE DOWNGRADE FROM 4 STAR To 3. FIRST APPEARANCES AND INTERACTION APON ENTRANCE IS HUGE). Next few visits were slightly better for us sitting at the bar, but noticed others in tables and booths having to get up and go find someone to get things or pay their bill. Finding out bartenders split tips is annoying. It's fine if they all help the same, but when one person helps you 95%,and the others are busy somewhere else or screwing around, I don't want to tip them. Sucks to know the money you want to give that one person goes to the others not working with you or as hard. Steak is overrated when people say "best it town". No.... not it's not. It was cooked perfect, but it lacks flavor. If you like broccolini don't order it here. It's way too dominate on whatever sauce they use. The French dip is really really boring. Maybe added provolone and some grilled onions. Golden butter toast each side of the bread. Just bland by itself, and if you use the au jus, it was super salty and boring also. Overall this places is just a few steps away from being 4-5 stars. It just needs a few changes to some food items and they need to figure out how to run the place. We stopped briefly for an overnight stay in Pittsburgh, KS, while on a road trip on the way to visit some ancestors' gravesites. Knew nothing about the town except my hub's grandparents grew up here and attended the university. We're used to lighter fare back home in California, and a trip to the Midwest seems to often involve lots of meat and fried foods. Needless to say, we craved salad/veggies and me: fish. We can report that the brick style Cobb salad, tuna ceviche served with tortilla chips, and side salad with house dressing were a perfect 8pm meal coming off the road and not yet settled into our accommodations. Sweet tea was strong but easily toned down with ice water. Perfect. Glad we found B+M to end a tiring day of travel. read more

The staff was on-spot, helpful and the manager even came around to ask how we were doing. The atmosphere is super swank for anything around here. The bar is stocked and drinks are made well. Food was adequate at best. Our meal was cold and mostly incorrect the sides were incorrect on both meals. The waitress was pleasant and appeared to be the only person doing actual work here. The bar tender acquired himself a drink as I had already ordered one bottle of Dos Equis with lime and he served me the second as a draw instead of a bottle which he immediately drank upon return, in addition the bartender had to be instructed how to make a basic drink (top shelf ranch water). We tried out Brick & Mortar for the first time and was well impressed. Clean, upscale and a friendly "neighborhood" atmosphere. We got there around 6 on a Friday evening and got right in but of you're planning to be there later, you might consider making a reservation. I had the steak fritos, which was a flatiron steak with seasoned fries and an arugala salad. The steak was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The salad was also very good. And I would love to figure out what they seasoned the fries with. Deb got the fried chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. The sandwich was huge, crispy and tender. I saw a pizza come out that was much bigger than I figured for the price and looked delicious. I may try one on my next trip. Visiting from Chicago with my husband and teenage son, and hoping to find great food in Pittsburg, we checked reviews and unanimously decided to eat here. The female bartender is a local is super friendly. She even gave us recommendations for places when we visit Fort Scott. Myah was our server and seemed to know the intricacies of every menu item, including the cocktails. We later found out she'd been working there just about a month. We were impressed by her personality, energy, wit, and service. I'm a business owner and would hire her! She recommended the Blackberry Smash (made with with Whiskey), and it was great! For appetizers we had the Poutine, which was very rich and generously sized. Their wings were delicious (more Asian style and not buffalo). I had the chicken pot pie which was bursting with flavor, had tender chunks of chicken, and a delicious cream sauce (sauce was a little on the thin/watery side, but the flavor was good). Husband had the prime rib sandwich, which was very tender and tasty - but a little slim on the quantity of beef. Son had the short rib pizza which was unbelievable! The handmade dough had the perfect bubbly texture, the meat was perfectly tender and seasoned, and the sauce and arugula paired nicely. There was 5 of us. we could not get reservations until 7:30 pm Which was fine. but when we went to order 50% of the entrees were not available. and they substituted the wine I ordered with a different one without asking first. we got seated close to our reservation time but did not get served our food until 1 hour and 20 min later. Even after we ordered the waitress came and said they were out of things and we needed to select something else. The food was OK but nothing special. one person at our table ordered a vegetable to go with their entree and it had black rotted spots in it.
