Our server took the time to explain everything on the menu, which we really appreciated. The ambience is beautiful, and the noise level was perfect--you can actually enjoy your meal and have a conversation. And the food was SO good! We had the New York ribeye, which was amazing, along with the tall fries--definitely a must. The tuna crudo was fresh and delicious, and the beef tartare and Wagyu skewers were both amazing as well. We also had the dry-aged meat board with lamb, which was really good, and the prawns were another favorite. Everything we ordered was delicious! We finished off with the ice cream dessert, which was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. They also have a very good wine list with plenty of great options. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, everything came together for such a memorable experience. Definitely one of those places you leave already thinking about when you can come back. Highly recommend!

I went last night with a few friends and we had a really lovely time. It feels like the restaurant has had a noticeable upgrade, both in vibe and overall experience. The menu is family-style with smaller plates that are great for sharing. Prices feel fair -- most small plates are in the $10-$20 range, with larger dishes around $30. We ordered seven dishes plus dessert and left feeling full, but not overly stuffed. Here's what we tried: Bub & Grandma's Baguette -- $6 Roasted Baby Golden Beet Salad -- $12 Blue Lake Green Bean Tempura -- $11 Ahi Tuna Crudo -- $15 Grilled Oyster Mushrooms -- $13 Pork Schnitzel -- $30 Spring Pea Cannelloni (special) -- $17 Basque Cheesecake -- $9 Overall, everything was delightful. The standouts for me were the Pork Schnitzel -- a great portion, well cooked, served with roasted potatoes -- the Blue Lake Green Bean Tempura, which were light, fun, and super snackable, and the Ahi Tuna Crudo, which was familiar but really refreshing. The Spring Pea Cannelloni was very pretty, but the flavors didn't feel totally harmonious to me. There is a small parking lot in front, which is always appreciated, and a nice outdoor patio that was especially enjoyable with the current warm weather. It really feels like a great little neighborhood spot now. If you are nearby, I would definitely recommend stopping by -- it is an easy, enjoyable place to share a drink and a meal with friends or relax at the bar.

Where you take someone you see potential with to let her into your world. The vibe was low key, moody and impeccable (love all the plants and textures), the music fantastic, and everyone felt like a dancer, musician or poet who had a 5am hot yoga class the next morning. And that carries through perfectly at Ramona room. A friend and I wandered in around 9pm on a Thursday after a drink at neighboring Bandini. We had the second room all to ourselves and a beautiful view of the street and the restaurant. Tacos were big and so flavorful I got a little emotional -- oyster mushroom and chicken tinga. I was keeping my drinking to one that night, but the wine list looks great. Recommended.

The place was full, which might be the normal operation or maybe a Mother's Day thing. I will say it was also pretty loud, but fortunately, I'm partially deaf so no big deal for me. You could shoot a cannon behind me and I probably wouldn't jump. We were seated near the entryway of the kitchen, so we had an opportunity to watch the food coming out, and I gotta say, the presentation on everything led me to believe we were going to have a fantastic evening. Note: I rarely if ever order pizza at restaurants, but holy hell the pizzas that were coming out looked really fantastic. We started with an order of the bread, yellowfin crudo with cara orange and jalapeño, and fried calamari. The youngest child loved the bread, it was very solid, the crudo was very good too. But the fried calamari was something special. It was surprisingly light for being fried, with other fun things tossed in, and a delightful tartar sauce. Two thumbs up. Order this. You're welcome. The pasta orders soon arrived. All were really good..gnocchetti with shrimp, spaghetti bolognese. I had ordered the eggplant parmesan and was so happy I did. It was delicious! Expertly prepared, and I'm embarrassed to say (nah, I'm really not) that I ate every single thing on that plate. Service was fantastic, the food was amazing. Really very impressed. We will be back. What stood apart (and I've lived in München!) is how "light" everything was. Usually, I have to be wheeled out of German restaurants in food coma. Beautiful schnitzel, prefect sides (fresh kraut!) and I loved the Camembert version of the Liptaur that came with the Bretzl, and the horse radish mustard is out of this world. And the Helles?! Wow. I had TWO... which is a miracle on a hot day while eating starchy food. The owners have paid meticulous attention to detail in the design of this place as well. Hours are limited because they can be. Def worth the stop if you love the complex simplicity (I know! But a proper Lager is NOT easy to brew) of an on-point German beer with a beautiful head! Despite being hot, a wondering afternoon was spent in the garden. Highly recommend. Edit: ok one huge pitfall is the payment method. You pay per item you order and it just becomes a massive nightmare if you are paying as a group. Plus the tipping gets out of hand and it's just kind of a pain in the ass to constantly tap your card. I had to take an extra algebra class to figure out what my group owed each other!

tl;dr little about this beer garden dispels the notion that German cuisine is bland; the…read morebreathtaking patio is overshadowed by snail-paced service and forgettable food With reliably pleasant weather in Los Angeles, I'm surprised that more restaurants and bars don't invest in lavish gardens and patios. But Bia Om in Echo Park goes all-in on the outdoor dining concept. Bia Om (which literally translates in Vietnamese to "beer hug", but refers to a seedy, red-light beer bar) is a poor name to describe this posh, German-leaning beer garden. Bia Om is hard to spot, especially without any eye-catching signage on an otherwise high-speed block of Sunset. Street parking is limited, so you'll probably end up nabbing a spot on an adjacent alleyway. A sleek outdoor stairway opens up into the vast, all-brick patio space. Trim wooden benches are pressed up to all-wood tables, and trees spring from tiny gravel planters flush with the floor. The adjacent mid-century modern shack is off-limits except for stage members. Jovial chatter fills the air. I visited with a large party for Friday dinner and drinks, and the well-manicured patio immediately took my breath away. However, the experience fell back to earth once we started ordering. The service was friendly but criminally slow; drinks took nearly 30 minutes to arrive, while food took closer to 45. Further, several of our orders were frankly forgotten. Broadly, the food was under-seasoned, under-flavored, under-portioned, and overpriced. The best dish of the night was, ironically, the totally non-German Rigatoni Bolognese, packing a rich, meaty sauce and al dente noodles. I also enjoyed the flavorful Rostbratwurste, which were perfectly sized for sharing across a large party. Otherwise, the rest of the German-forward dishes were bland or off-putting. The Flammkuchen (a German "pizza") had a crispy but flavorless crust decorated with specks of bacon and onion; it never exceeded the sum of its parts. The Obazda (Camembert spread) was vibrant in color and flavor, but the accompanying soft pretzel was tough and under-seasoned. The Gravlax Bread was a huge whiff; the soft white bread felt store-bought, and the subtle salmon was overwhelmed by the mustardy spread. The signature Stecherlfisch (whole grilled mackerel) was similarly dull and one-dimensionally fishy. The remaining dishes, like the Fennel and Pear Salad, Grilled Lamb Chops, and Tiramisu, were wholly standard and forgettable. Lastly, nothing about the brewed-in-house beer menu. I won't deny that Bia Om is one of the nicer patios in the city, and I appreciate how seamlessly they can "accommodate" a large party. However, the food and service felt amateur at best. I wouldn't return, and I couldn't reasonably recommend this spot even in a pinch.
