They were just cleaning out a dumpster in my neighborhood and left a complete mess on the street and sidewalk (street cleaning had just come, so their mess, as the consequence of their actions was obvious). Not only is this unsightly and poor business practice in the community, it is unsafe for children and pets on the sidewalk (broken glass etc. ) for shame! read more

I used Brian (and his van) last year to move some furniture from the basement of my main place in Brooklyn to my crash pad in the east village. I asked him to make a couple of stops along the way at a furniture store and at someone's house in brooklyn heights for some additional furniture. In addition to being prompt, reasonably priced, and very careful, I was most impressed with his and his worker's good attitudes and friendliness. Finding movers, for some reason, always seems to be the most stressful thing you can do in NYC and the profession seems to attract scammers. Great service all around, was actually 2 hours early but I was still at work. He was cool about having to wait, and just got something to eat. Even worse was I couldn't find my cell phone and had to call when I got home to let him know I was there, and he understood. He took away my beat up sofa and loveseat in less than an hour. Went to help a relative move early in the day recently, since I had plans for later. Not only did they NOT show up, she had to call THEM to find out they had "suddenly" couldn't make it! Got to wonder if she hadn't called them if they would have even bothered to contact her. We could have been waiting for them for hours for nothing and she would have been left in a total bind. As it was, she had to scramble to find another mover - thankfully, others were reliable! Regardless, meant I had to stick around much longer than expected and missed a gathering I had promised to attend. These people are not only unreliable but also uncaring about customers! All the "good" reviews here must be for HIS relatives as he did mine wrong! Claims there was an accident and he is human. Here's my response to that! You are humans? Inconsiderate Humans! Pick up the PHONE people! All you had to do was CALL but that was too much to ask. AND, your story on Yelp is NOT the story given when my relative finally called YOU! Changing it for better press? Keep looking elsewhere!!! This dude is shady. He responded quickly to my request for an estimate. He said $100/hour for 2 men. Okay. Prompt and efficient start. Sadly, It was all downhill from there. Maybe I should've realized by the "...& Junk Removal" part of his company name not to have too much faith in Brian's care with my personal belongings. Brian has a strange business model. No wardrobe boxes, no tape for his raggedy pads, 1 dolly with a with a wobbly wheel. Brian and his helper (his helper did most of the work) seemed to be laboring under the effects of fierce hangovers. The helper was very reluctant to give a name- any name! Weird. Finally after a couple hours when I tried to introduce him to my girlfriend - he came up with "Q"; okay that's his business. I had to run out to a store and buy tape so the pads would stay on my 2 valuable pieces. Brian put my antique dresser ON IT's TOP - with a flimsy pad - and pushed it along the floor!! He had tried to shove it down the metal truck ramp that way too!!! It could easily have been put on a dolly and rolled but that's not what they did. They did scratch the top of the dresser- of course. Brian let a passer-by grab a side rail of my wooden bed frame and walk off with it. I happened to be nearby and got it back. BrIf I'd been upstairs that would've been messed up! I pitched in and carried a lot of stuff which helped to bring the job in at about 2.5 hours. I told Brian to call it 3 hours and gave each guy a $20 dollar tip - despite my misgivings about their shoddy work. Get this! Brian pulled a shady & shitty stunt - he claimed I "miscounted" the cash and gave him $300 - instead of the $340 I'd handed him. I knew exactly what was in my wallet because I'd just gone to an ATM for this purpose. I was so taken aback - of course I checked my wallet & pockets - but I was clear about the exchange. The fink was scamming me. As an act of good faith I gave him another $20 because I didn't want Q to get stiffed by The van owner. Brian whined about the tip and I went to move the car. I'm sure he'll deny this but I have nothing to gain by misrepresenting the circumstances. Just want to help someone else avoid this unpleasantness. I feel kind of bad wrecking a perfect Yelp streak but I also have to share my experience with Brian. I found him on craigslist and checked out this very page and was more than confident that he would be great. I've moved many times in NYC, usually finding movers on craigslist, so I'm used to the routine. The Yelp reviews were a nice touch and something I hadn't seen before for a typical man-with-van craigslist situation. I texted him mid-month to ask for a quote for moving from address 1 to address 2, he quoted me 130 for 2 guys, cool. The addresses are about 5 blocks apart and it was a one trip job. I then had to add on another leg, let's call it address 0, to pick up some other stuff before heading to address 1. He quoted me 200 because it's farther away from the others, fine. I was trying to explain over text how it might need to be two trips now to my final destination due to so much furniture and he kept saying "it will fit." He kept brushing off my attempts to be as detailed as possible about the amount of furniture and my move. Weird since he never saw anything and only had a limited idea of what I had, but I appreciated his confidence (I guess). Here's where things got weird. Due to some last minute unexpected fire drill I had to get the stuff out of address 0 a few days earlier. I found another mover to do it for me since Brian wasnt sure with his schedule if he could do it. When I then explained to Brian I needed to just defer to the original plan of going from address 1 to address 2...he said it would now be $180. The quote had gone up $50 bucks. I asked him why and he said "It's the end of the month. Things are tight." as if I was just now contacting him for the first time. I ended up negotiating him back down to $150 but he ended it with "Give me a list of everything you have. I don't want any surprises either." His tone was bizarrely confrontational...he also texted later "time is money". WTF kind of useless platitude is this to send to someone you're doing business with? I could have replied "the customer is always right," but I did not. Don't get me wrong-- I understand how supply and demand works. I understand how texting agreements and quotes work too, and he certainly was 'allowed' to change the quote on me a week later. He had clearly undervalued his services a week earlier or not anticipated this month's demand (not my fault, and as a professional mover I'd expect him to understand the ebbs and flows of his business at this point). If this was some large-scale wholesaling operation and the price of precious metals suddenly shot up, quotes could and should certainly change to accomodate that. But this is NYC moving and if you couldn't have predicted an influx in demand for the end of the month, you shouldn't punish your customers for it. Not to mention from a *SERVICE* standpoint, when you're dealing with super stressed out people in NYC, why would you do something to add to peoples' stress? Again, I got nothing from any of our communication that made me confident that he was going to make my transition as smooth as possible. During the fire-drill move I met other movers who held a parking spot for me. We got to chatting and I explained the situation with Brian. The guy gave me their business card, a flat fee quote ($200), no hidden costs, a firm handshake and a warm smile. Sold. I texted Brian that I felt uncomfortable working with him since I now had a couple more items and was worried about how the price would fluctuate, and that I overall just felt like I couldn't trust him to ensure my move wouldn't have hidden costs. I booked a move for out state, from NYC to CT. The overall experience was okay. I called about a month ahead of the move and agreed after getting a reasonable price from Brian. The mover arrived at 8:45am, about 45 minutes behind the agreed upon 8am (I understand that traffic is an issue in NYC, but it would've been nice if I was able to start on time). Pros: got my stuff up in CT without anything breaking. The mover was friendly and worked quickly. I paid what I was quoted, no hidden fees. Cons: I had booked a sprinter van, abut unfortunately, what I received was an old black Ford van that had the roof sawed off, and then another higher roof soldered on. The van had NO REVERSE FUNCTION, which made the move quite painful since we couldn't get it into the parking lot at the destination, and had to move everything from the street. I had to leave some of my items at my old apartment because it couldn't all fit completely inside the van; maybe I had too much stuff, or maybe it would've fit if I had gotten a standard sprinter van... I just wanted to add my 2 cents, and give an honest opinion. I think my move could've been a lot easier if I didn't get stuck with the black death van without a reverse function. read more

I was in a panic about potentially unloading a moving container/pod by myself, and emailed Brian at midnight last night. He replied at 5:45 am, so good news was waiting for me when I woke up! The container had a 4-hour delivery window, and Brian was super flexible about waiting to arrive until it had been delivered. I did not want to pay movers to stand around waiting with me! He also let me help him with the work so I could keep the move as inexpensive as possible. We got it finished in under 2 hours, which he pro-rated instead of charging for the full 2, and the whole process was fast and straightforward. After reading the great reviews I was assuming that all things would go well... Sadly not so. Brian did my initial junk removal wonderfully but when he was to return two days later to move me to my new apartment .. he was on his day off so he sent two coworkers instead. These guys were efficient and fast.. (( After being 2 hours late and causing me to get a $75 fine for moving out after 9pm.. No that is NOT an exaggeration)) I realized after they left that two of my stools, my comforter & bed set, as well as 2 paintings did not get moved in the house and had been left on the truck. I called the one man that I had his number and nobody responded. Granted it was midnight by this time but I left multiple messages and no response. Brian just single-handedly removed a couch and a large bookshelf from my fourth floor walkup, among other items, and was able to dislodge a very solidly installed air conditioner from my window as well. His crew was very professional and the prices were very reasonable and much cheaper than other big name junk removal companies. I was expecting to pay much more for same day service, but he did no overcharge me for that. Also, he kept me updated on his time of arrival via text which was very professional of him. If I have more junk, I will definitely call him again because not only was he good at his job, but also have a great heart. The actual moving service that they provided was all well and good in the end, but I was nervous the entire time because I thought Brian was trying to rush through it. I found Brian to be a little pushy. I almost cancelled on him because his texts gave me the sketchy vibe. His vanity license plate, "HUSTLR" didn't inspire confidence either. When he showed up, I tried to explain which (four) items were fragile and it was as if he couldn't even bother to listen... His companion, a soft spoken middle aged guy, was incredible. He quietly apologized to me for Brian "being a little rushy sometimes" and assured me that he would take care of everything. I would re-hire his companion in a heartbeat. Brian on the other hand did a straight-forward good job in the end, but I would rather never work with someone who I felt so uneasy around. read more

Two hours before my appointment with a local mover, the mover canceled on me claiming that the driver's truck had broken down in NJ. More likely, a more lucrative job came down the pike. What to do? I looked on craiglist and started calling. Luckily I found Brian. He very calmly took my information and sent a wonderful driver a musician by trade named Johnny. He was courteous, professional and we finished the job with no problems. I now have a company I can rely on for these types of art moving jobs. I've moved so many times this year for various reasons I was running out of favors with my friends and sick of spending so much money trying to move myself. My last move was from one spot in Williamsburg to another just one train stop away, but I had a few large items that I couldn't move on my own. I packed up everything and Brian and Jose showed up about 5 minutes early, which is awesome. They were so quick getting everything from my 3rd floor walk up into their van. Horrible moving experience! I paid hourly for three movers, and Brian stood around texting while the other two men did all the work. They didn't label boxes. Didn't wrap any furniture, and didn't have blankets in the van to protect the furniture. I pointed out that they scratched my bed frame, and he didn't care, and referred to my things as "junk." I was very fortunate to find him for the last minutes. First I called 1800gotjunk and I was told it would cost me $200 or more to remove a full-size mattress and a queen size bed. But Brian, he was super fast responding to my request, much much lower price than 1800gotjunk! He showed up on time, very professional and friendly.
