This review is long over due and well deserved. I have worked with Brian Mackel Roofing for over 10 years both on a personal level as well as a professional level. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY In November 2020, I had my roof replaced by Brian J. Mackel Roofing, LLC after hurricane damage. The work was completed on or about November 18 for $10,495. Several days later during a rain storm, rain poured in through the vent in the kitchen and bathroom. The bathroom ceiling was damaged. I contacted Mr. Mackel who sent a crew with tar to tar around all the vents. On December 1, I went into the attic to find several large holes (two feet) in the plywood where I could see the roofing material. It was clear the plywood had not been replaced, which was at least 30 years old and full of nail holes. This was at least the 4th roof put into that plywood. The next day Mr. Mackle came over and went into the attic with me. At that time, I also walked him into the den, which has a vaulted ceiling. I pointed out to him that there was no way to see the status of the plywood for that portion of the roof. He assured me it was fine and that he had "walked the entire roof." Several days later, a man representing Mackel Roofing patched the holes in the plywood that could be seen in the attic. About a week later, a chandelier type light in the den fell. At the time I considered it to be from stress and did not consider that the underlying roof was subpar. Today, February 26, 2021. I noticed a sour smell in the den. When I looked at the ceiling, it appeared discolored. I climbed a ladder and found the ceiling wet to the touch. I assume the insulation is soaked. I contacted Mr. Mackel. He immediately denied having replaced my roof and said he only did patching. After insistence on my part and a reminder that I paid him $10,000, he admitted to replacing my roof. I told him what was going on and he insisted I did not know the ceiling was wet. After I told him I had climbed a ladder, he said if it is wet, it's not because of his work and must be a ventilation problem. I told him in 20+ years in the house I had not had any such problem. He insisted I just needed a vent. I reminded him about the holes in the plywood that I could see and that I had specifically taken him to that room and questioned him. I told him at this point I was concerned that the entire roof was shoddy and I wanted the whole thing done correctly. He told me I didn't know what I was talking about and basically that he wasn't fixing it and hung up. read more

We hired Mackel Roofing for a full roof replacement on our newly purchased house, as Brian and his company were recommended by our realtor. We obtained six other quotes, and theirs was among the most reasonably priced - as well as the most detailed about exactly what needed to be done. They were quick to start after we agreed to proceed. Brian and his team arrived on the first day, but he decided not to start removing the old roof that day due to chance of rain - I appreciated that he did not want to put us at risk. The roof demo and installation was a messy process, but the team was diligent about cleaning our yard and making a few repairs. When the new roof installation was complete, we hired a third-party inspection company to inspect it. Everything was professionally done and looked good - we're very happy with our new roof! Brian was always personally available for me to call with questions. Extremely knowledgeable about roofs and buildings in the New Orleans area. I would definitely recommend them. read more

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They were hired by my condo association to replace my roof and skylights. The roof and skylights leak, Brian Mackel came out 4-5 times and said it was all repaired but it kept leaking. When I finally had enough I hired another roofing company (at my expense) who were appalled at the quality of Mackel's work. Then to make matters worse, Brian Mackel made a rude comment to the condo association president about me being gay. The new roofing company offered to verify the poor work by Mackel in court, that's how bad it was. He refuses to take any responsibility for his work. Stay far away from this company! read more
