My small town, rural dentist replaced the rotten baby teeth with fake silver ones until my adult teeth grew in, and the experience was traumatizing. During that procedure, I ended up biting the dentist (it hurt!) and he bit me back!! I always seemed to have cavities as a kid, and the sound of the drill can still send me into a panic. My parents wouldn't tell me until the day of my appointment that I was going because I would agonize for days leading up to the visit. As an adult, I still have trouble getting fully numb for fillings, and just the thought of going to the dentist triggers the fight/flight response. Dr. Edland is the first dentist who truly listened and worked with me on my trouble with Novocain. He is patient, and waits until the anesthetic fully takes hold. There has been one time where I could still feel pain after he started drilling - he stopped, injected more anesthetic, and waited for it to take effect. I can't tell you how grateful I am for his kind and gentle demeanor. He also fully explains everything he is doing, keeping you updated on how far he's gotten and how much work is left. He is pragmatic and doesn't push you into procedures that can wait. And his staff is just as wonderful! Receptionist Liz is an absolute delight. She always makes you feel like you're her favorite patient. Edie assists Dr. Edland during procedures and is attuned to your needs throughout. She always provides comfort and reassurance during stressful visits. Valerie is one of the dental hygienists who is so sweet and gentle. Everyone at this practice is amazing. I just could not recommend Dr. Edland and his staff more!!

Let's start with the fact that they've changed Dentists more times than I can remember and hygienists are the same. They'll always try to tell you that you need 5 or more fillings and yet when I've gotten checked elsewhere they all tell me they were just trying to make money off me. This brings me to my next issue. I made an appointment far in advance. They called a few times to confirm it but I was sick and dealing with other medical issues at the time. So, I get a text the day BEFORE my appointment saying my appointment has been canceled because they couldn't confirm it. I thought ok well that's fine. Then they send me a lovely bill for a missed appointment fee. When they call back, Mckenzie, starts the conversation by saying I violated the financial policy by not calling, it is what it is, we'll send it to collections if we have to etc. I told her, listen, I have never missed an appointment you can check my history, and you all canceled the day before I have the text message to prove it so why would I have shown up? Her disrespectful, catty response? "Well you could have called, you have a responsibility too." Which i replied, "yea my responsibility was staying alive because I was sick. I didn't prioritize a dental cleaning appointment but im telling you that's what happened. You assume some of us are just lazy or careless and that's poor customer service but that wasn't the case here." She held on to her anger and disgustingly cold approach and said she'd send the balance to collections which I said, go right ahead. It will go no where and cost them more in the long run because not only is there a fee associated with sending it there, they have lost a customer and everyone affiliated with me because I'll make sure everyone I care about knows to stay far away from this "practice". My reach in Frederick and neighboring counties goes wide, and I'll make sure people dont get scammed by this atrocious place or its people. If you want: 1. Show up on time for appts but get called back 30-1hr past your appt time. Go here. 2. Unprofessional, rude, catty, young, inexperienced staff taking care of you, go here. 3. For those who dont like TVs playing news in waiting areas, this place doesnt do that. I have a long history of dental care and I've spent many hours in a dentist chair since childhood, but I'm no longer apprehensive about coming for my visits since I've been coming here. I definitely recommend this practice if you are looking for a family run dentistry that knows what they're doing, and that cultivates a nice atmosphere.

Since that time, he's helped restore almost every tooth I have. With at least 1 crown and 2 root canals, plus a dozen or more fillings. His work has always been flawless - and entirely pain free! So good, in fact, that my entire family are patients here. About the only service he couldn't provide for us was surgical extraction of my daughter's wisdom teeth. I had asked if they were covered by my insurance & she said yes so I went ahead and got it. The second time I received it for my other side, the front desk tried to charge me over $400 for it. I was like no- it should be covered that's what I was told by Dr. H. They said okay no worries we'll take care of it. They are calling me now 4 months later saying I have a $700+ bill overdue that I've never received nor was told about when I closed my account in November because of these treatments. Even the person on the phone was telling me she's shocked it's so much because she usually only sees it for $30 a tooth... make it make sense. Where did this bill all of a sudden come from? They better figure it out because I wouldn't have gotten the treatment otherwise if they had stuck to their word. Or had come back multiple times if I had known they were going to be so mistrusting to their word. I'm honestly exhausted of financial malpractice at dentist offices. I had thought I finally found a decent one. But this really took me over the edge. They told me at the end of last year that for 2026 they would stop taking my insurance, Delta Dental, which so many people have. Clearly, there is a disconnect between the patient/doctor experience & financial department & they'll continue to lose patients if they continue this. So beware!
